A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

Eight years after the fall of the Old Republic, the Galactic Empire now reigns over the known galaxy。 Resistance to the Empire has been all but silenced。 Only a few courageous leaders such as Bail Organa of Alderaan still dare to openly oppose Emperor Palpatine。

After years of defiance, the many worlds at the edge of the Outer Rim have surrendered。 With each planet’s conquest, the Empire’s might grows stronger。

The latest to fall under the Emperor’s control is the isolated mountain planet Jelucan, whose citizens hope for a more prosperous future even as the Imperial Starfleet gathers overhead…

Its been a month woohooo。Good thing I uninstalled instagram lol, finally finished this book。Really cool concept this was。 Follow the main events of the original star wars trilogy via two childhood friends。 I definitely did not expect a star wars companion book to contain friends to lovers to enemies to lovers lmao, but I'm here for it。The main characters are Thane (not to be confused with the mumbai locality) and Ciena (not to be confused with the color): childhood friends who aspired to join th Its been a month woohooo。Good thing I uninstalled instagram lol, finally finished this book。Really cool concept this was。 Follow the main events of the original star wars trilogy via two childhood friends。 I definitely did not expect a star wars companion book to contain friends to lovers to enemies to lovers lmao, but I'm here for it。The main characters are Thane (not to be confused with the mumbai locality) and Ciena (not to be confused with the color): childhood friends who aspired to join the empire together, and serve their galaxy。 This was a great way of showing how innocent kids get indoctrinated into glorifying the empire。 The first third of the book focuses on their advancement through the academy and the conflicts that cause them to drift apart。 Then we have the next stage where they serve the empire。 Finally we get the climax which I shan't spoil。The dual POV was nice, was a good way to see their thought processes when they thought the other one had died lmao。 Some of the writing was quite on the nose tbh, but it didn't really detract from the book。The romance was solid, very believable and you felt like you understood them。 The feelings definitely got conveyed well。 I think the book ended nicely too, not a cookie cutter ending。The star wars easter eggs were cool, might have missed some, but i caught quite a few。 Some parts actually gave me goosebumps just imagining it lol。 All in all, great read if you're into star wars and want to see an alternate perspective for the OG trilogy (trilOG?)Haiku #25Now look through my eyesEmpire is evil broYou found out too late 。。。more

This is a top tier Star Wars novel and there is so much I enjoyed about it。 To anyone who likes Star Wars and would like to get into reading the novels, I would say this is an amazing starting point, that will not only get you hooked in the lore of and world, but what it is trying to say at a deeper level。Something I love about this novel is how much it excels at it's social commentary, especially in regards to authoritarian and totalitarian power structures。 This novel weaves in details about h This is a top tier Star Wars novel and there is so much I enjoyed about it。 To anyone who likes Star Wars and would like to get into reading the novels, I would say this is an amazing starting point, that will not only get you hooked in the lore of and world, but what it is trying to say at a deeper level。Something I love about this novel is how much it excels at it's social commentary, especially in regards to authoritarian and totalitarian power structures。 This novel weaves in details about how the empire changes planets it assumes control over, as well as their cultures, and ultimately leads to a certain level of the original culture's erasure。 It also shows how military focused governments target young people, even children, into idealizing the government and military and how that is meant to manipulate them into later becoming military recruits themselves, taking advantage of their innocent cluelessness。 By the time children realize this, both in fiction and in reality, it is often to late, and that's if they ever realize at all。 For some they become so indoctrinated that they will never leave what they see as honorable duty, and it is very sad。 The book excels at showing these details of authoritarian power structures that exist in the real word, and by exploring them using the Empire from Star Wars, it makes the Empire feel so much more real and terrifying than the films allowed it to be, and I love that。 On top of exploring these themes beautifully, the book is very well written and has an engaging story and likeable, though realistically flawed characters that you want to see live better lives。 This book is a true masterpiece。 。。。more

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome oneI'm a sucker for Romeo and Juliet stories, and this one is outstanding if not a bit dry at certain points。 First of all, the character writing is fantastic and the fact the two leads' dynamic swap halfway through the story was a great way to keep this love story fresh。 On top of that, the story itself, which spans the course of the original three movies and more, offers a very unique and personal perspective on the cost of war, honor, and propaganda。 I gen A surprise to be sure, but a welcome oneI'm a sucker for Romeo and Juliet stories, and this one is outstanding if not a bit dry at certain points。 First of all, the character writing is fantastic and the fact the two leads' dynamic swap halfway through the story was a great way to keep this love story fresh。 On top of that, the story itself, which spans the course of the original three movies and more, offers a very unique and personal perspective on the cost of war, honor, and propaganda。 I genuinely didn't expect this kind of analysis from a Star Wars novel。But there are a lot of fuller moments, especially in the middle where Episode Five takes place。 The story is definitely forced many times to conform to its source material and the constant references to the Skywalker lore, or even Ciena's empire life, become very grating and forgettable after a while。All in all, this is a great story with some of my newest favorite characters in the entire franchise。 If you've never checked out an Extended Universe Star Wars novel, this is the best way to start。 。。。more

One of my favorite Star Wars books! An amazing romance that shows us the Original Trilogy through a new lens。 The novel has compelling ethical dilemmas that are explored honestly and thoroughly。

With love from the Death Star We’ve never seen the other side of the story, the lives of imperial troopers。 It would appear that they are far removed from human emotions and are almost essentially robots。 We meet Thane and Ciena as kids when their home world is annexed into the Empire。 From two different cultures, they come together due to their live of flying。 They are lucky enough to meet Moff Tarkin on his visit to Jelucan。 It is there and then that both decide they want to serve the Empire。 With love from the Death Star We’ve never seen the other side of the story, the lives of imperial troopers。 It would appear that they are far removed from human emotions and are almost essentially robots。 We meet Thane and Ciena as kids when their home world is annexed into the Empire。 From two different cultures, they come together due to their live of flying。 They are lucky enough to meet Moff Tarkin on his visit to Jelucan。 It is there and then that both decide they want to serve the Empire。 They spend the next several years training to fly on Thane’s ship and they create a little hang out in a cave that is all theirs。 They grow up together, learn together and join the empire together。 Everything is going as planned until each sees the Empire for what it is。 It is not until then, that they realize the love that they have for each other but it seems it’s not meant to be。 Years pass and as hard they try, neither can get over the other。 Despite each other’s feelings for war, they both know it’s up to them to maintain their philosophies on the topic and when to remain loyal too。 While we mostly see the rebellion as the hero’s。 It’s Ciena and Thane who we are really fighting for。 。。。more

This was an enjoyable read。 It follows the lives of two young people from an outer rim planet that go to an imperial academy together。 Their lives overlap the events of the original trilogy, so while events from those movies appear in this story, the focus remains strongly on the two protagonists。 In other words, this feels very much like Star Wars without relying too much on cameos and Easter eggs。 Perhaps the author of this novel should be given the chance to write a movie script or two for th This was an enjoyable read。 It follows the lives of two young people from an outer rim planet that go to an imperial academy together。 Their lives overlap the events of the original trilogy, so while events from those movies appear in this story, the focus remains strongly on the two protagonists。 In other words, this feels very much like Star Wars without relying too much on cameos and Easter eggs。 Perhaps the author of this novel should be given the chance to write a movie script or two for the series。 。。。more

I’m new to the Star Wars fandom, and this book was a wonderful place to start。 This book explains everything without over elaborating and boring the reader。 This book alone has made me a fan and I am excited to dive deeper into the fandom。 This is a true young adult novel and the love story is that of the ages。 I would recommend this novel to old and new fans alike。 Beautifully written。

Fun read: I liked reading a story that was happening parallel to the main star wars trilogy, though the plot between the main characters was fairly predictable。

This book was ok。 The plot with Thane and Ciena was good, but felt kinda of lost and overshadowed by the war more towards the end of the book。 The beginning was good。 The very end of the book was annoying because I don’t think it tied off the book well。 I did enjoy seeing the war from someone who believes in the empires POV。

Claudia Gray gets it when it comes to Star Wars。 Imperial Academy intrigue, competition between upcoming cadets, the story of coming to terms with what the empires is, and on top of all that Gray delivers an enchanting intergalactic love story。 Maybe the love story part isn't you're thing? Don't sweat it too much because this book still delivers a fun new cast of characters as well as a handful of cameos from Star Wars staples。 On top of all that it provides some context for the state of things Claudia Gray gets it when it comes to Star Wars。 Imperial Academy intrigue, competition between upcoming cadets, the story of coming to terms with what the empires is, and on top of all that Gray delivers an enchanting intergalactic love story。 Maybe the love story part isn't you're thing?
