Huge thanks to Anne at Random Things Tours, Headline Books and of course Jennifer for my gifted copy of the book and my spot on the tour! I loved this book!! I was not expecting to have so many myths seemlessly threaded through this nor have the names of so many people from greek mythology。 I went into this story thinking I was mostly blind to Atalanta’s tale but in actual fact I was far more familiar that I realised thanks to all the other myths woven through。 This is such a great read and I would highly recommend to anyone who is really into their Greek Mythology as it ticks all the boxes! I can’t wait for my Goldsboro copy to arrive 😍😍 。。。more

Thanks to Flatiron for the copy of this book。I've loved Jennifer Saint's previous books and really enjoyed the start of this one。 However, it dragged for me a bit in the middle and end - and may just be due to a reading slump I'm having this month because I know Jennifer Saint is a talented author and Atalanta's story is intriguing! I'll still come back for more of her books。 Thanks to Flatiron for the copy of this book。I've loved Jennifer Saint's previous books and really enjoyed the start of this one。 However, it dragged for me a bit in the middle and end - and may just be due to a reading slump I'm having this month because I know Jennifer Saint is a talented author and Atalanta's story is intriguing! Overall, this was a truly good book, but there was something about it that just didn’t entirely hit the mark for me, hence the three-star rating。 。。。more

I don't write many full reviews, so I'll keep my thoughts short。Atalanta was fun because I haven't really read into this side of Greek mythology。 I'm a bit new to it, in general, actually。 It was nicely paced, and I'm definitely more intrigued about the characters outside of this story。I do feel some of the writing was a bit convenient。 Like, the main characters just happened to be in certain parts of the story that didn't really make sense for them to be in for the sake of the story。 There were I don't write many full reviews, so I'll keep my thoughts short。Atalanta was fun because I haven't really read into this side of Greek mythology。 I'm a bit new to it, in general, actually。 It was nicely paced, and I'm definitely more intrigued about the characters outside of this story。I do feel some of the writing was a bit convenient。 Like, the main characters just happened to be in certain parts of the story that didn't really make sense for them to be in for the sake of the story。 There were also a few scenes that I didn't quite understand why they were included。 Maybe it just needed a bit more editing。。。 。。。more

Although I have both of this author’s previous Greek mythology retellings I still haven’t read them, in fact this is the first mythological retelling I have read。 It won’t be the last。 This tells the myth of Atalanta, the only female Argonaut。 A woman who, as a baby, was left to die in the wild but was raised by a bear and later nymphs under the auspice of the goddess Artemis。 This is beautifully written and a wonderful story told from Atalanta’s POV throughout。 Briefly, when Artemis gives her t Although I have both of this author’s previous Greek mythology retellings I still haven’t read them, in fact this is the first mythological retelling I have read。 It won’t be the last。 This tells the myth of Atalanta, the only female Argonaut。 A woman who, as a baby, was left to die in the wild but was raised by a bear and later nymphs under the auspice of the goddess Artemis。 This is beautifully written and a wonderful story told from Atalanta’s POV throughout。 Briefly, when Artemis gives her the opportunity to fight with the Argonauts, in their search for the Golden Fleece, Atalanta jumps at the chance to prove herself as the only woman amongst 50 of the worlds finest warriors。 However, she must heed one warning from Artemis; she must never marry。 The author obviously loves her subject and that comes though clearly in the wonderful descriptions and emotional prose。 Atalanta was a fantastic character for her to work with。 She comes across as a strong and wild woman who is determined to make her way in a man’s world。 I don’t know a lot about Greek mythology and I was unaware that there was a female Argonaut, and that proved to be the basis of the book, that Atalanta has largely been forgotten in the myth。 The romantic thread highlighted her vulnerability and mortality and was very moving and the ending to the book was good “I am wild, I am free。 I am Atalanta”。 I really enjoyed it and think I have a new genre to read, thank you Ms Saint。 Now I definitely will be reading the authors earlier books。 。。。more

Having read Jennifer Saint’s previous work, I can honestly say that it’s my favourite book of hers。 I wasn’t familiar with Atalanta’s story and I am grateful for the author to shine attention on this marvellous female。Atalanta was strong, bold, and unafraid。 She faced many perils in her life and on the journey to get the Fleece, but she persevered and never gave up。I recommend this book to all fans of Greek myths and those who seek a strong female protagonist。 。。。more

My thanks to Headline Wildfire for an eARC and to Headline Audio Wildfire for a review copy of the unabridged audiobook edition, both via NetGalley, of ‘Atalanta’ by Jennifer Saint。 The audiobook is narrated by Beth Eyre。 This is Jennifer Saint’s third novel in which she reimagines the story of a female figure from Greek mythology。 I had enjoyed both ‘Ariadne’ and ‘Elektra’ though ‘Atalanta’ is now my favourite of the three, likely because she is a mythological figure that I already admired and My thanks to Headline Wildfire for an eARC and to Headline Audio Wildfire for a review copy of the unabridged audiobook edition, both via NetGalley, of ‘Atalanta’ by Jennifer Saint。 The audiobook is narrated by Beth Eyre。 This is Jennifer Saint’s third novel in which she reimagines the story of a female figure from Greek mythology。 I had enjoyed both ‘Ariadne’ and ‘Elektra’ though ‘Atalanta’ is now my favourite of the three, likely because she is a mythological figure that I already admired and found inspiring。While I knew about Atalanta’s prowess as a runner and how she sought to defy her father’s attempt to marry her off, I wasn’t aware of her role as one of the Argonauts。 Saint has combined elements of all three of the ancient accounts about the fleet-footed maiden。 Here her time with Jason and the Argonauts gets the most attention。Atalanta narrates the story of her life。 When a daughter is born to the King of Arcadia, he is disappointed and orders her to be left exposed on a mountainside。 She attracts the attention of a passing mother bear and is raised alongside the cubs under the protective eye of the goddess Artemis。 In time Atalanta takes her place among the community of nymphs that attend Artemis。 Atalanta is a skilled runner and huntress。 When news reaches the sacred forest of Jason’s quest for the Golden Fleece, Artemis commands Atalanta to join the Argonauts not only to prove her worth but to represent Artemis on the voyage。 While there is initial resistance to a woman joining the crew of the Argo, Atalanta persists。 She presents her account of the legendary quest and the Calydonian boar hunt that follows it。The final section of the novel gives an account of Atalanta’s famous footrace in which she outruns potential suitors as well as her final fate。 I was also pleased that Jennifer Saint confidently retained the gods, goddesses, and various mythical creatures。 None of the stripping away of the numinous and supernatural as in some recent reimaginings。 I especially appreciated her depiction of Artemis, who was quite severe in her punishments for those who transgressed her rules or disrespected her。With respect to the audiobook, Beth Eyre has a warm, clear voice that quickly drew me into the narrative。 I have enjoyed a number of audiobook titles read by her in recent years and I trust her ability to capture the essence of a novel and its characters。Overall, I found ‘Atalanta’ a skilful blending of mythological strands into a highly compelling and enjoyable tale。 This was a top read for me in terms of mythological retellings and Jennifer Saint now a must read author。Highly recommended。 。。。more

I do like a good Greek myth retelling and Jennifer Saint can be relied on to produce the goods。This time the subject is the only woman Argonaut, Atalanta, and her story from being raised by bears to living in the sacred woods of Artemis, then leaving to make her name in the world and becoming part of legend。 This was an enjoyable story and made me really think about the lives of women in Ancient Greece。 A recommended read。

Another great retelling of Greek mythology from one of the queens of this genre, Jennifer Saint。 Atalanta is a brilliant character for me - a strong, resilient female who will not be deterred in the face of a male dominated contest or expedition。 She is fierce & cannot be tamed。 This book, like Jennifer’s previous books, is well told, strongly written & makes you yearn for more。 Excellent!

Very slow start, the meat of the story with Jason and the Argonauts wasn't as epic and detailed as expected, but a really satisfying third act。 3。5 stars。 Very slow start, the meat of the story with Jason and the Argonauts wasn't as epic and detailed as expected, but a really satisfying third act。 3。5 stars。 。。。more

Jennifer saint is my favourite author when it comes to Greek mythology。 I adored Ariadne, and Atlanta was just as special。 Atalanta is told in the first person, she is a huntress who was left on the mountaintops as a baby to die by her father, a king, because she was not a boy。 She survives and is raised by a mother bear in the forest under the eye of Artemis and her nymphs who later educate her。Atalanta is sent to join the hero’s of greece in the quest for the Golden Fleece, but has to prove he Jennifer saint is my favourite author when it comes to Greek mythology。 I adored Ariadne, and Atlanta was just as special。 Atalanta is told in the first person, she is a huntress who was left on the mountaintops as a baby to die by her father, a king, because she was not a boy。 She survives and is raised by a mother bear in the forest under the eye of Artemis and her nymphs who later educate her。Atalanta is sent to join the hero’s of greece in the quest for the Golden Fleece, but has to prove her self worthy to join the men, which she does over and over。 She forges her place in a world of men, and lives for the adventure。For me the five star books are the ones that give you all the feelings and leave an everlasting imprint。 This is one of those, I won’t forget Atalanta for a long time! 。。。more

Another of Jennifer Saints great retellings of mythical stories with a feminist twist。 They are all told from the heroines perspective and usually sound a lot more honest and logical than the original story。 I like them a lot。

As an AI language model, I do not have personal opinions, but I can provide a brief synopsis of the book 'Atalanta' by Jane Yolen。 'Atalanta' is a retelling of the classical Greek myth of a young girl, Atalanta, who is abandoned in the wilderness by her father and raised by a pack of wolves before becoming a fierce hunter and finally being reunited with her human family。 In Yolen's version of the story, Atalanta is portrayed as a strong and independent woman who challenges gender norms and learns to navigate the complex politics and rivalries of ancient Greece。 This book provides an engaging and thought-provoking perspective on one of the most enduring myths of Western civilization。
