Summary

Delve into the history of the sinister Count Dooku in the original script to the thrilling Star Wars audio production!

Darth Tyranus。 Count of Serenno。 Leader of the Separatists。 A red saber, unsheathed in the dark。 But who was he before he became the right hand of the Sith? As Dooku courts a new apprentice, the hidden truth of the Sith Lord's past begins to come to light。

Dooku's life began as one of privilege--born within the stony walls of his family's estate, orbited by the Funeral Moon where the bones of his ancestors lie interred。 But soon, his Jedi abilities are recognized, and he is taken from his home to be trained in the ways of the Force by the legendary Master Yoda。

As he hones his power, Dooku rises through the ranks, befriending fellow Jedi Sifo-Dyas and taking a Padawan of his own, the promising Qui-Gon Jinn--and tries to forget the life that he once led。 But he finds himself drawn by a strange fascination with the Jedi Master Lene Kostana, and the mission she undertakes for the Order: finding and studying ancient relics of the Sith, in preparation for the eventual return of the deadliest enemies the Jedi have ever faced。

Caught between the world of the Jedi, the ancient responsibilities of his lost home, and the alluring power of the relics, Dooku struggles to stay in the light--even as the darkness begins to fall。

Okay, so two things, this book is a printed script of the audio recording of the story。 Second, if there is one character that I never understood not found intimidating in the slightest, it's Count Dooku。 Lucas killed off one of the coolest things he ever created, Darth Maul, although as we know from Clone Wars and Solo, Maul is not dead。 ANYWAYS, this actually fills the character in more and syncs up with how is portrayed in Clone Wars。 An easy fun read。 Okay, so two things, this book is a printed script of the audio recording of the story。 Second, if there is one character that I never understood not found intimidating in the slightest, it's Count Dooku。 Lucas killed off one of the coolest things he ever created, Darth Maul, although as we know from Clone Wars and Solo, Maul is not dead。 ANYWAYS, this actually fills the character in more and syncs up with how is portrayed in Clone Wars。 An easy fun read。 。。。more

The script of the audiodrama。 During the Clone Wars Asajj Ventress is sent by Count Dooku to locate his sister Jenza。 Whilst on the mission Asajj begins to learn the details of Dooku's past; his training as a Jedi, his relationship to his estranged family and his eventual fall to the dark side。So, the elephant in the room is the fact that this book is a script and not a novel。 I've read several scripts, screenplays and stageplays and they can sometimes be something of a chore, being forced into The script of the audiodrama。 During the Clone Wars Asajj Ventress is sent by Count Dooku to locate his sister Jenza。 Whilst on the mission Asajj begins to learn the details of Dooku's past; his training as a Jedi, his relationship to his estranged family and his eventual fall to the dark side。So, the elephant in the room is the fact that this book is a script and not a novel。 I've read several scripts, screenplays and stageplays and they can sometimes be something of a chore, being forced into a medium for consumption by the general public that they were never intended for。 I have to say, however, that this was definitely the most enjoyable such book I've read so far, with a combination of narration and 'stage' direction that actually tells the story well enough that the change in medium isn't so out of place。 Would I have enjoyed this more as a prose novel? Absolutely。 Does that mean it can't be enjoyed as it is? Not at all。 But still, if you're not up for reading a script instead of prose, then don't be fooled into starting this one。Aside from some scenes in James Luceno's brilliant 'Darth Plagueis' and part of 'Legacy of the Jedi' by Jude Watson (both now rendered non-canon by Evil Disney), we've never seen much exploration of Dooku's past, so it's great to get some here。 Given his role of villain in the movies and the Clone Wars stories it was hard to understand how he could once have been not only a dedicated Jedi, but also a Master of the Jedi Council。 Scott gives us a convincing version of young Dooku who already has a vague sense of superiority and entitlement but is still actually a great Jedi。 Having it be Ventress that explores and reveals this period of Dooku's past is particularly poignant given her own fall to the dark side and her toxic relationship with her Sith Lord master。 I also liked the fact that rather than just being inherently drawn to the dark side and always destined to be a villain, Dooku's clashes with the other Jedi are largely pretty justified and there's a great scene where he lectures Yoda about the Jedi's rules being directly responsible for a Master being corrupted in an attempt to hide a personal attachment (a nice bit of foreshadowing of exactly what will lead to the rise of Darth Vader)。The one major disappointment for me was that this book doesn't explore how Dooku became a Sith Lord or any of his dealings with Darth Sidious。 We do get his first ever meeting with Senator Palpatine, but it's a short scene only made significant by the insider knowledge we have as readers (although I did like that it was Dooku's own apprentice, seemingly being groomed by Palpatine, who introduces them)。 I felt that some exploration of how Dooku went from leaving the Jedi to joining the Sith would've really made the Count's story feel complete in a way that it doesn't when this book ends。* More reviews here: https://fsfh-book-review2。webnode。com * 。。。more

4。5 starsThis was a pleasant surprize。 I've been on a hunt for more cannon Star Wars after finishing the Clone Wars and I did not have high hopes for this。 First of all, I got the book/script version and I thought that it was just an ordinary book format - I was wrong and when I found out, I laughed quite audibly in the library。 Regardless, I could not put it down。 I would recommend this book for people who have watched all of the Clone Wars tv show because Ventress is a main character and her s 4。5 starsThis was a pleasant surprize。 I've been on a hunt for more cannon Star Wars after finishing the Clone Wars and I did not have high hopes for this。 First of all, I got the book/script version and I thought that it was just an ordinary book format - I was wrong and when I found out, I laughed quite audibly in the library。 Regardless, I could not put it down。 I would recommend this book for people who have watched all of the Clone Wars tv show because Ventress is a main character and her story is involved and you wouldn't get it if you didn't watch the show (which you totally should because it's really good (most of it) and it redeems the prequels)。 We jump around the canon timeline a bunch - but don't worry it's not confusing。 It's actually really cool because we get to see Dooku as a padawan training with Yoda, him training his first padawan (yea I didn't know he had one before Qui-Gon either), training Qui-Gon and how he turned Sith Lord。 Also, it explains how the heck he became a count。 The character depth in this was great。 For all of those concerned, the book/audio production did not mess with the characters/plot/cannon timeline and did not ruin anything。 For all of those who are really into and looking for more canon Star Wars, I would definitely recommend this。 。。。more

Dooku really is a monster。 And there are several places in his history where he could have made different choices。。。but didn't。 And he does his best to bring Ventress down with him in this engaging read/audiodrama。 I think I recommend reading the script rather than listening to the Audiodrama for one reason: the voice for Dooku is。。。not very good, so it may be better to read it so you can hear the voice of Christopher Lee in the role。 On the other hand, every other voice actor does a great job, Dooku really is a monster。 And there are several places in his history where he could have made different choices。。。but didn't。 And he does his best to bring Ventress down with him in this engaging read/audiodrama。 I think I recommend reading the script rather than listening to the Audiodrama for one reason: the voice for Dooku is。。。not very good, so it may be better to read it so you can hear the voice of Christopher Lee in the role。 On the other hand, every other voice actor does a great job, particularly Marc Thompson as Yoda, and one character is basically a Sam Elliott type, strong Texas accent and all, and it is hilarious to picture Christopher Lee training Sam Elliott as his apprentice, and that image alone makes the Audiodrama worth listening to, so really you can go either way。 It's a decent story, and in the end it will leave you with a better understanding of both Dooku and Asaaj Ventress, and for that reason I do recommend it! 。。。more

I greatly enjoyed learning about the backstory of Count Dooku, however this audio production was of inconsistent quality。 The writing itself was probably one of the weakest points, though it's not so bad as to be too distracting。 The strongest part of this story would be the story itself, at least those parts that are consequential and exciting。The quality of the voice acting was fairly good。 Dooku himself, both as child and adult were well done and most of the characters were passable, though t I greatly enjoyed learning about the backstory of Count Dooku, however this audio production was of inconsistent quality。 The writing itself was probably one of the weakest points, though it's not so bad as to be too distracting。 The strongest part of this story would be the story itself, at least those parts that are consequential and exciting。The quality of the voice acting was fairly good。 Dooku himself, both as child and adult were well done and most of the characters were passable, though the Yoda impersonation was a bit distracting; I don't think it would be that hard to find someone who could do it better。 I greatly enjoyed the actor doing Liam Neeson。 The rest of the actual production of the audio was great, it was amazing to have real Star Wars music by John Williams behind everything and the sound effects were well done too, my one complaint being the dragon in the end sounding like a canned effect that made him sound puny compared to how he was supposed to feel。The narrative style of having Dooku's story be told by someone going through recordings and personal effects was effective and creative except it leads to my other complaint about the voice acting which is that sometimes the voices in a scene aren't distinct enough to justify the lack of any clarifying text。 The main storyline that isn't flashbacks I also found quite boring until the conclusion。Overall I would say it is an essential part of Star Wars if you are interested in knowing the complete stories of all the characters in the prequel trilogy, but it could have been done slightly better in a few ways。 。。。more

Though its become increasingly harder for me to find SW novels I enjoy these days (and to be honest, has been ever since they tossed out the old canon), I did enjoy this one。 I "read" it in audiobook form which was present more in a radio dramatization type format with several voice actors reading it as if it were a play。 Yeah, there's a lot of eye rollingly bad fake screaming and one of the Jedi seems to have a Texas accent, but I'm trying to judge the book on its story, not on its presentation Though its become increasingly harder for me to find SW novels I enjoy these days (and to be honest, has been ever since they tossed out the old canon), I did enjoy this one。 I "read" it in audiobook form which was present more in a radio dramatization type format with several voice actors reading it as if it were a play。 Yeah, there's a lot of eye rollingly bad fake screaming and one of the Jedi seems to have a Texas accent, but I'm trying to judge the book on its story, not on its presentation。As the name would imply, this is the story of how Dooku become Count Dooku and fell from the Light to the Dark Side of the Force。 I enjoyed the story overall as it paints Dooku as some character with depth, divided loyalties, and a desire to do good within the confines as the increasingly political use of Jedi Order。 The books title, "Jedi Lost" also applies to Asajj Ventress who plays a significant role in the book as well。The draw back for me was there's a lot of new characters here and we don't get a lot of back story on them。 The Jedi behind the creation of the Clone Army, Syfo Dias, is a fellow Padawan during Dooku's own training where he is often struck with Force Visions。 There's also a lot of new abilities, stories, and histories related to the Jedi don't get explained as well。 It's kinda short, but it's got a quick enough pace to not leave you wandering if pointlessness or trying to connect weak spots in the movies/ tv shows。 。。。more

One of the few star wars books that is genuinely fantastic。Dooku was always a wildly undeveloped character that I never really cared about。 This story changes that and made him one of the most interesting star wars characters in a long time。 I was genuinely sad watching him go down the path to becoming a Sith and leaving the Jedi, but it was very well done。 The Audio book had a fantastic cast as well。

Is this why Qui Gon Jinn also understood that he needed to defy the council, even Dooku discovers the council to be openly corrupt。 I loved the tale told and listening to a full cast and audio production made it even better! 。。。more

This was very interesting in that it’s the first Star Wars thing I’ve listened to that was made as an audio drama, not as a book that was later narrated as an audiobook。 For that reason, though I’ve heard there’s a script version of this, I think it really needs to be listened to。 A script is not a book, and I think it would lose a lot of its charm。Anyways, about those charms:- Most of the voice actors were fantastic (with one notable exception)。 Ventress was perfect, which is good because she s This was very interesting in that it’s the first Star Wars thing I’ve listened to that was made as an audio drama, not as a book that was later narrated as an audiobook。 For that reason, though I’ve heard there’s a script version of this, I think it really needs to be listened to。 A script is not a book, and I think it would lose a lot of its charm。Anyways, about those charms:- Most of the voice actors were fantastic (with one notable exception)。 Ventress was perfect, which is good because she sort of acts as the narrator of the story; Yoda was perfect (all hail, Marc Thompson); and some of the others, like Lene, were new characters to me but I thought they were great。 Distinct personality and distinct voices。- There was tons of background on Dooku in here that I didn’t know at all—it was interesting to see what parts of his personality stayed the same (being very good at everything, and a bit arrogant), plus seeing how some good things ended up getting warped as he got pulled towards the Dark Side (a few parallels with Anakin, actually), and I find the question of Jedi attachments to be really interesting。 There are obvious dangers to them, and this story has them, but the way the Jedi deal with the topic doesn’t seem totally healthy。- I liked getting to hear a little bit of Qui-Gon as a padawan (with Jonathan Davis, the same great voice actor as the narrator in Master & Apprentice)- Some people might not love the story format, in which Ventress is mostly narrating it (while arguing in her head with the voice of her former Jedi Master), and most of the scenes about Dooku happen because she’s watching Holos or reading his journal。 But I actually really liked it; it was different, plus the Ventress voice actress was GREAT at her job, so I think it was an effective way to string together scenes that might have otherwise seemed too disconnected。- I enjoyed the brevity of this story being tied up in just 6 hours, because most of the Star Wars audiobooks I’ve listened to are around 10-13 hours and I enjoyed this one being shorter。However, it is not a perfect book:- That one voice that wasn’t great was, unfortunately, Dooku’s。 And he’s the whole point of the book! The voice wasn’t deep enough or distinctive enough, and I honestly had a hard time keeping track of when it was actually him speaking。- I really wanted the ending to cover more of Dooku’s actual turn to the Dark Side。 We see him evil in the present time with Ventress, but the flash backs don’t fully bridge that distance between Jedi Dooku and Sith Dooku。 It only covers up until the time when he left the Jedi Order。 With the title as it is, I expected it to cover a bit more。 。。。more
