Summary

Victoria Aveyard’s internationally beloved #1 New York Times bestseller is now in paperback!

Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver-blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities。 Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court。 There, before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own。

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess, and betroths her to one of his own sons。 As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard—a growing Red rebellion—even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction。 One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays the only certainty is betrayal。

This sweeping story of palace intrigue, class hierarchy, and deception will keep readers hurtling along, desperate to find out Mare’s fate。 Her honesty and determination, quick wit, and no-holds-barred attitude will surely make readers fall in love with her。

I thought that I had posted a review for this book, but I guess I didn't。 I really enjoyed it and it was a pretty easy read。 I did accidentally spoil the ending for myself and that was very upsetting。 But anyway, this book had some pretty great themes throughout it and I definitely recommend it。 I thought that I had posted a review for this book, but I guess I didn't。 I really enjoyed it and it was a pretty easy read。 I did accidentally spoil the ending for myself and that was very upsetting。 But anyway, this book had some pretty great themes throughout it and I definitely recommend it。 。。。more

I’m a sucker for YA dystopian/power books。 I really enjoyed the plot and went straight to the second book。 It was slow in some parts but mostly I couldn’t put it down! Reading the other reviews: if you don’t like YA dystopian, or if you don’t understand themes/plots/tropes can occur in more than one book -> don’t read it 🤦🏼‍♀️

I normally don’t read this kind of book but once I got this I just couldn’t put it down。 The rest of the series is amazing as well。 I love that it’s fantasy but the feelings and emotions are described so well and realistically。

The love story seems very rushed。 You are given three boys who are in love with this girl for seemingly no reason。 I would’ve liked more development on their relationships before jumping to they love her。

So often I find myself annoyed by the main character but she is the badass female lead I've been waiting for。 I cannot recommend this book enough 5/5!!! 。。。more

This is a bit of a generous 3 stars and the ending is what bumped it up to 3 stars。 The story is very standard fantasy YA that I feel like is a basic outline。 I don’t mind a typical YA fantasy but I didn’t feel that the world building was done well enough for me to separate this book from anything else。 I wanted to understand the war more。 We are told the country has been at war for years but I never really got the motivations behind it。 I didn’t feel that I knew the characters well or understan This is a bit of a generous 3 stars and the ending is what bumped it up to 3 stars。 The story is very standard fantasy YA that I feel like is a basic outline。 I don’t mind a typical YA fantasy but I didn’t feel that the world building was done well enough for me to separate this book from anything else。 I wanted to understand the war more。 We are told the country has been at war for years but I never really got the motivations behind it。 I didn’t feel that I knew the characters well or understand their backgrounds。 There was a point that I thought maybe there wouldn’t be a love triangle but a love square between the two princes and the best friend。 Had that followed through it would have added an interesting element but at the end it becomes clear that it is a standard love triangle。 The writing also was meh。 There wasn’t anything inherently wrong with it but it didn’t suck me into the story。 I believe this is the authors debut book so I am hoping that in future books in the series it will improve。 The ending betrayal was one that I didn’t see coming until it happened。 And I am intrigued enough with how things will play out with the change in power that I want to try the second book。 It was like things suddenly got interesting and exciting in the last 15%。 I am hoping that will continue into the second book and depending on how that goes will determine if I continue with the series。 。。。more

I don’t know how to feel about this book。 At times I was really engaged, I read it in two days, but I just don’t think it was for me。 What constantly say in the back of my head as I was reading this was Pierce Brown’s ‘Red Rising’。 I couldn’t help but compare it to that because of the factions of colours and the unique powers for each one。 I mean the reds being the bottom of the hierarchy is extremely familiar。 So when I was reading this, I was unconsciously comparing the two and unfortunately I I don’t know how to feel about this book。 At times I was really engaged, I read it in two days, but I just don’t think it was for me。 What constantly say in the back of my head as I was reading this was Pierce Brown’s ‘Red Rising’。 I couldn’t help but compare it to that because of the factions of colours and the unique powers for each one。 I mean the reds being the bottom of the hierarchy is extremely familiar。 So when I was reading this, I was unconsciously comparing the two and unfortunately I didn’t love this book as much as I loved Red Rising, it felt like a fan fiction or knock off version of it。 But the book wasn’t bad。 What in realising is that my taste is changing and YA fantasy doesn’t really work for me as much as New Adult or Adult fantasy does。 For those in the midst of their YA fantasy binge, and preferably someone who hasn’t read Red Rising (cause the comparisons really killed it for me) this would be a perfect book to read。 🌟🌟🌟 stars 。。。more

When I first started reading this book, I was actually very intrigued to continue reading it。 But as soon as I got halfway through the book, my interest was starting to drop。First, I don’t like the main character a lot。 She is a selfish moron that mostly only cares about herself and is sacrificing her friends and family for her own good。 It actually became annoying to read about her at some points in the books and just frustrating that she did everything just for herself。 Second, the story progr When I first started reading this book, I was actually very intrigued to continue reading it。 But as soon as I got halfway through the book, my interest was starting to drop。First, I don’t like the main character a lot。 She is a selfish moron that mostly only cares about herself and is sacrificing her friends and family for her own good。 It actually became annoying to read about her at some points in the books and just frustrating that she did everything just for herself。 Second, the story progressed in a weird way。 It started off okay, there was quite some action and it was interesting to continue reading。 But then, it just seemed to get flatout boring。 There wasn’t a lot of action anymore。 Yeah, there were a few bombings and other attacks, but that’s pretty much where it ends。 Then there was the ending of the book, where it suddenly got packed with action in the last chapters and it all got so much that I feel like it became a mess。 There was a nice plot twist at the end of the book tho。 I did not expect it to happen (I won’t spoil it), and it made the reading a little bit more pleasant for those last few chapters of the book。 。。。more
