Summary

Pairing simplified yoga poses with alphabetized animals and objects, ABC Yoga features colorful illustrations of children and animals practicing yoga along with playful rhymes to explain each movement。 A fun family read, this interactive title is perfect for teaching toddlers their ABCs, as well as introducing them to familiar animals and basic, simplified yoga poses that promote health and well-being。 Each letter of the alphabet is paired with an engaging illustration mimicking the various animals' natural movements。 Clever rhymes explain how toddlers (and their parents!) can copy the poses, each of which encourage movement, physical fitness, and mental health。 The 26 yoga poses, one for each letter of the alphabet, are renamed for easy understanding, while an index at the end of the book identifies the correct name for each asana (yoga pose) for the adults。 The engaging illustrations and playful rhymes encourage children and their parents to get up and move, promoting physical activity, learning, and togetherness。

We’re a little young to do the poses, but we had a lot of fun anyway。

I think this book is great。 It is such a great tool to use with children as they can see the shapes that the animals are forming as well as being able to imitate the children in the book。 I think this is a fantastic resource especially for PE lessons and I think it’s exciting because of the animals and can be used in cross curriculum activities。 I love the images I think they’re fantastic and really well illustrated。

Christiane Engel's illustrations show children posing like butterflies, yaks and other animals in a celebration of yoga。 The poses don't necessarily line up with Sanskrit or English translations of the poses, but they work nevertheless。 Short, three-lined rhyming text accompany the poses in ABC order。 Yoga poses are listed in the back of the book。 Very cute for a preschool storytime to get kids moving。 Pair it up with ABC Mindful Me。 Christiane Engel's illustrations show children posing like butterflies, yaks and other animals in a celebration of yoga。 The poses don't necessarily line up with Sanskrit or English translations of the poses, but they work nevertheless。 Short, three-lined rhyming text accompany the poses in ABC order。 Yoga poses are listed in the back of the book。 Very cute for a preschool storytime to get kids moving。 Pair it up with ABC Mindful Me。 。。。more

A great introduction to yoga for little ones (or adults looking for a non-intimidating starting point)。

This is an awesome book for a yoga/mindfulness storytime。 It could also be used with animals, because most of the poses resemble animals or insects (with the exception of moon, nest, quack, rainbow, volcano, zzzzz, and the widely debated unicorn, which is up for opinion about whether or not that's animal haha)。 It's super fun, could be used for yoga or sounds/actions, and has great illustrations。 This is an awesome book for a yoga/mindfulness storytime。 It could also be used with animals, because most of the poses resemble animals or insects (with the exception of moon, nest, quack, rainbow, volcano, zzzzz, and the widely debated unicorn, which is up for opinion about whether or not that's animal haha)。 It's super fun, could be used for yoga or sounds/actions, and has great illustrations。 。。。more

This book would be fun to not only help children learn their ABC, but they are also able to get up and move around by doing different yoga poses。

This book is a cute way to introduce young children to yoga and reinforce the ABCs at the same time。 Many children enjoy pretending to be like various animals, so the animal – yoga pose connection is sure to be popular with many。 The rhymes aren’t always great (“See the dancing duck?/Stand on one leg/And make a quack”) but their text combined with the pictures does help readers to figure out how to do each pose。 Most of the poses are fairly simple and small children shouldn’t have much difficult This book is a cute way to introduce young children to yoga and reinforce the ABCs at the same time。 Many children enjoy pretending to be like various animals, so the animal – yoga pose connection is sure to be popular with many。 The rhymes aren’t always great (“See the dancing duck?/Stand on one leg/And make a quack”) but their text combined with the pictures does help readers to figure out how to do each pose。 Most of the poses are fairly simple and small children shouldn’t have much difficulty completing at least a reasonable facsimile; however, adults might want more guidance if they are going to do them along with them。 (The “C” page’s crocodile, for example, is the plank pose。)Overall, a cute book, and a nice way to get small children interested in yoga!Rating: 4 stars / BI voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book。 。。。more

While the writing isn't the best, this book is lovingly illustrated and inviting for all readers。 It's a great introduction to yoga for children, especially when yoga is already a staple for one or more family members。 While the writing isn't the best, this book is lovingly illustrated and inviting for all readers。 It's a great introduction to yoga for children, especially when yoga is already a staple for one or more family members。 。。。more

There are so many benefits for children who practice yoga。 Yoga helps children manage stress through breathing and meditation, helps build concentration, develops body awareness, and helps with self esteem and healthy habits。 Yoga is a perfect activity to introduce into your daily routine and even into your classrooms! This is really stunning。 From the artwork to the simple, rhyming text, to the incorporation of the alphabet。 I can see using this with a preschool or kindergarten class, or just one-on-one, but either way I do think an adult (whether it be a teacher or a parent) would need to guide the child through the book in order to successfully accomplish the poses。 And the poses don't have to look exactly like they're supposed to。 I've learned this from children's yoga。 This is about the exposure to the ar This is really stunning。 From the artwork to the simple, rhyming text, to the incorporation of the alphabet。 I can see using this with a preschool or kindergarten class, or just one-on-one, but either way I do think an adult (whether it be a teacher or a parent) would need to guide the child through the book in order to successfully accomplish the poses。 And the poses don't have to look exactly like they're supposed to。 I've learned this from children's yoga。 This is about the exposure to the art of yoga as an exercise and experience。 Again, I just have to say, stunning pictures。 And the minimal rhyming text was really just the cherry on top for me。 Definitely purchasing for my library's picture book collection。 I think it would be cute as a board book, too。Disclaimer: Thank you to Edelweiss, who provided me with a review copy in exchange for my honest opinion。 。。。more

A cute book that encourage children to try some yoga poses。 Most are easy to interpret from the illustrations, however some will need a knowledgeable adult who knows the poses better。

Cute。 The little poems that go with the pictures are nice。 I'm not wild about the art。 My main problem with it is that it doesn't teach the kids how to do the poses。 For some of them, the illustrations are not good enough to understand how the pose is done。 The included guide at the end is good look up the poses elsewhere, so you can learn to do them。 Cute。 The little poems that go with the pictures are nice。 I'm not wild about the art。 My main problem with it is that it doesn't teach the kids how to do the poses。 For some of them, the illustrations are not good enough to understand how the pose is done。 The included guide at the end is good look up the poses elsewhere, so you can learn to do them。 。。。more
