This is just a book that gives in depth explanations of each pose, very helpful for reference。

I made the mistake for the past year to try to read this thing cover to cover。 There’s too much information in here for that。 Today, I read the parts that suited me, then placed it next to my yoga mat and props to have on hand as a reference。 Fascinating stuff on every page and very clear。 A must if you want to stop relying completely on studios that still haven’t reopened and deepen your yoga practice。

This book is a must have for anyone who wants to teach yoga。 the directions are spot on for hundreds of poses。 there is so much information, so that if you have a question itll likely have an answer。 there is asana, breathing exercises, and lots of 'platelets' which are the pictures of BKS。 My yoga teacher trainer had this on the required books for class and I'm glad I have it。 Great reference book for any practicing yoga enthusiast。 This book is a must have for anyone who wants to teach yoga。 the directions are spot on for hundreds of poses。 there is so much information, so that if you have a question itll likely have an answer。 there is asana, breathing exercises, and lots of 'platelets' which are the pictures of BKS。 My yoga teacher trainer had this on the required books for class and I'm glad I have it。 Great reference book for any practicing yoga enthusiast。 。。。more

This is a comprehensive yoga book, it has an index at the back of the book labelled with specific benefits and directs you to all of the postures for that benefit。 People with any experience level in yoga will be able to utilize this book, it ranges from entry level to master level postures。 Videos and lessons still have a place for someone learning yoga, but getting this book can describe things in more detail than you may receive in a session。 If you see a posture that you like and want to dev This is a comprehensive yoga book, it has an index at the back of the book labelled with specific benefits and directs you to all of the postures for that benefit。 People with any experience level in yoga will be able to utilize this book, it ranges from entry level to master level postures。 Videos and lessons still have a place for someone learning yoga, but getting this book can describe things in more detail than you may receive in a session。 If you see a posture that you like and want to develop it, it is still useful seeing someone do it in a video。 As far as giving me something that captures the spirit and complexity of the Hindu philosophy, i would say it was a great success。 。。。more

The definitive text on Hatha Yoga, the unique reference for professional teachers, used throughout the world。 It describes more than 200 yoga postures, and is illustrated with some 600 monochrome photographs of Iyengar demonstrating these。The book has been described as the bible of modern yoga, and I completely agree, since this is one of the most precious reference in my journey to become a Yoga Teacher。

Light on Yoga offers detailed step-by-step instructions for the different yoga poses, with useful photos illustrating each pose。 It is a great resource for learning and reviewing yoga poses, but could have been organized a bit better to make it easier to find specific poses。 Some things Iyengar wrote did seem a bit male-centric and outdated, but I guess that’s to be expected given when the book was written。 Some of the health claims seemed a bit dubious as well。 Overall, this is an excellent boo Light on Yoga offers detailed step-by-step instructions for the different yoga poses, with useful photos illustrating each pose。 It is a great resource for learning and reviewing yoga poses, but could have been organized a bit better to make it easier to find specific poses。 Some things Iyengar wrote did seem a bit male-centric and outdated, but I guess that’s to be expected given when the book was written。 Some of the health claims seemed a bit dubious as well。 Overall, this is an excellent book for all yogis to have, but it shouldn’t be the only resource you turn to。 。。。more

Required reading for a program I am taking。 It was fine。 The asanas and associated explanations were great。 The "philosophical" bits were not so great。 Required reading for a program I am taking。 It was fine。 The asanas and associated explanations were great。 The "philosophical" bits were not so great。 。。。more

Not exactly a book you read straight through。 90% is step by step instructions on poses and breathing。 The 10% that is focused on the philosophy of yoga is fascinating, although I had trouble keeping the Sanskrit words straight。 The pictures of the yogi master in complex poses can be intimidating for a beginner。

Para mí este libro es sencillamente una de las biblias del Hatha yoga o parte física del yoga!!! Un verdadero tratado yóguico。

I avoided this book like the plague (even as a yoga teacher)。 When I finally took the plunge it felt like the right time, it surprised me and I am always in awe of the teachings。

So。。。many would consider this an authoritative text on yoga。 I mean Iyengar has an entire style of yoga named after him! And if you are looking for a book that covers old school yoga postures, this is totally a book for you。 It is filled with pictures of Iyengar doing seemingly every asana imaginable along with a short introduction explaining some of the spiritual components of yoga and a brief section on pranayama。 I will frequently reference it when looking for the sanskrit name of a pose or variations on a pose。That said, it also is filled with some very questionable information about the effects of asanas。 For instance, according to Iyengar, bound angle pose (or cobbler’s pose) is reputed to, “keep the kidneys, the prostate and the urinary bladder healthy。 It is well known that diseases of the urinary tract are rarely found among the Indian cobblers and the reason for that is that they sit all day in this pose。” Iyengar goes on to claim that bound angle pose also “relieves sciatic pain and prevents hernia。 If practiced regularly, it relieves pain and heaviness in the testicles。” Still not done, the practically miraculous pose is also “a blessing to women” according to Iyengar as it “checks irregular menstrual periods and helps the ovaries function properly。” I’m sorry, but I just can’t get behind a book that makes such bold and unsubstantiated health claims。 I love yoga。 It does a lot of great things for a lot of people’s bodies (and minds), but it is not a substitute for a urologist or a gynecologist as it appears Iyengar would have us believe。 I know Iyengar was writing at a different time, but I have a feeling even he knew there are limitations to what yoga can do for us and chose to ignore that in order to build the hype around yoga。 I think that was reckless then and reckless now。 Yoga is wonderful, life-changing, and healing to many an injury, but it is not and never will be a magical cure-all to every physical disorder of the body。 So。。。it's a nice reference book for poses, but take the benefits listed with a healthy level of skepticism。 。。。more

Most times I get interested in something I’ll end up reading a book about it, and this has been a helpful reference in growing my yoga practice。 The majority of the text is detailed history, step-by-step instructions, and pictures of hundreds of asanas, but there’s also smaller sections on yoga philosophy and pranayama。 I’ve found it enjoyable to flip through and learn about poses I thought I knew or would like to try, and both humbling and inspirational to see how far it’s possible to go。

A guide to the asana and pranayama limbs of yoga。 Photographs, descriptions, techniques, and effects are included for each asana (pose)。 Included in the preface is a brief introduction to the overall philosophy of yoga。

Mr Iyengar is a man after my own heart。 This book is extremely well organized and consistent, reflecting the discipline and care that he took with his instruction and (I would assume) his practice。 Deduct one star for unsupported medical claims and postures that are more acrobatic (and possibly extremely harmful) than beneficial。 However, given Mr Iyengar's shift to using props layer in his life, and how different the world is today than when this book was written, I am less concerned with the m Mr Iyengar is a man after my own heart。 This book is extremely well organized and consistent, reflecting the discipline and care that he took with his instruction and (I would assume) his practice。 Deduct one star for unsupported medical claims and postures that are more acrobatic (and possibly extremely harmful) than beneficial。 However, given Mr Iyengar's shift to using props layer in his life, and how different the world is today than when this book was written, I am less concerned with the misleading information than I would be if it were published by a modern author。Overall it seemed to me that this book was a combination of a labor of love / act of devotion, and a step in expanding Mr Iyengar & his family's business。 It was fascinating from many standpoint and I will certainly be using it as one reference of many going forward。 。。。more

This had been a reference book for me for years。 But this year I made a practice of slowly reading this classic, attempting (most of) the poses as Mr。 Iyengar instructed (one or two a day), and journaling how it went。 It was an interesting journey。 The mix of anatomy, philosophy and mythology make this a must-have resource for any serious yoga student。

It's a self study kind of book。 You can have it as a reference and learn so many yoga Asana by yourself。 Guruji have explained each and every posture step by step along with when to breathe in and out。 Also He has explained health benefits of every asana。 There is a section in which He explains breathing exercises too。 So if a particular person is suffering from particular ailment, he/she can refer asana beneficial for healing from that ailment。 A must have for any level yoga practitioner。 It's a self study kind of book。 You can have it as a reference and learn so many yoga Asana by yourself。 Guruji have explained each and every posture step by step along with when to breathe in and out。 Also He has explained health benefits of every asana。 There is a section in which He explains breathing exercises too。 So if a particular person is suffering from particular ailment, he/she can refer asana beneficial for healing from that ailment。 A must have for any level yoga practitioner。 。。。more
