Summary

“Our time has come。 For three hundred years we prepared; we grew stronger while you rested in your cradle of power。 。 。 。 Now your Republic shall fall。”

A Sith warrior to rival the most sinister of the Order’s Dark Lords, Darth Malgus brought down the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in a brutal assault that shocked the galaxy。 But if war crowned him the darkest of Sith heroes, peace will transform him into something far more heinous—something Malgus would never want to be but cannot stop becoming, any more than he can stop the rogue Jedi fast approaching。 Her name is Aryn Leneer—and the lone Jedi Knight that Malgus cut down in the fierce battle for the Jedi Temple was her Master。 Now she’s going to find out what happened to him, even if it means breaking every rule in the book。

Hades

Another epic journey into the old Republic

I have to say, I really loved this book。 It's a bit cliche, but I just loved it。 The parallels between Ayrn, a Jedi, and Darth Malgus, a Sith, are extremely interesting to follow in that it illustrates how similar each side can be to each other。 Both arcs deal heavily on examining attachment and how each "side" of the Force is taught to deal with it。。。and how they actually handle it。Once again, I have not played the Old Republic games, but in the case of this book, I did not feel confused or lef I have to say, I really loved this book。 It's a bit cliche, but I just loved it。 The parallels between Ayrn, a Jedi, and Darth Malgus, a Sith, are extremely interesting to follow in that it illustrates how similar each side can be to each other。 Both arcs deal heavily on examining attachment and how each "side" of the Force is taught to deal with it。。。and how they actually handle it。Once again, I have not played the Old Republic games, but in the case of this book, I did not feel confused or left out。 I think this story stands on its own very well。 We didn't have any strange tangents with side characters or a disproportionate focus placed away from the main characters。 I think this book does a good job balancing light with dark and painted a complex and interesting picture of the age old "good vs evil" and all the morally gray in between。 。。。more

Excellent story filling in the gaps between swor trailer and given darth Malgus more back story and depth, which leads to a riviting climax where jedi padawan and Sith Lord go head to head, with a bitter sweet resolution。

This one was a lot of fun! I’m really liking the old republic。 I don’t have anything to bad say except for zeerid’s family story being a bit clichè, but still done very well。 Kemp’s a fun writer and it’s one of the few Star Wars books I’ve read with multiple threads where I found each one to be very enjoyable。

This book describes the battles and wars very well。 I wish that it didn't put those images in my head。 This is a great book, but I feel like it never really got anywhere。 The main change in the book was through Malgus and Aryn and I wish that it included more of a happy ending for him。but other than all of that I loved it。 This book describes the battles and wars very well。 I wish that it didn't put those images in my head。 This is a great book, but I feel like it never really got anywhere。 The main change in the book was through Malgus and Aryn and I wish that it included more of a happy ending for him。but other than all of that I loved it。 。。。more

3 star read!- Action packed with several lightsaber battles, which I loved。 - 3 different povs one a Sith, a Jedi and a spice runner。 3 different people and 3 different stories all coming together。 - I listened to the audiobook and loved the addition of music and sound effects。 - When Aryn watched how her Jedi Master died on the surveillance footage, I found that part really unnecessary as we already witnessed that fight in detail。 - It was really interesting to see a Sith lord (Darth Malgus) fe 3 star read!- Action packed with several lightsaber battles, which I loved。 - 3 different povs one a Sith, a Jedi and a spice runner。 3 different people and 3 different stories all coming together。 - I listened to the audiobook and loved the addition of music and sound effects。 - When Aryn watched how her Jedi Master died on the surveillance footage, I found that part really unnecessary as we already witnessed that fight in detail。 - It was really interesting to see a Sith lord (Darth Malgus) feel emotions of love and affection to another being, and how he dealt with that throughout the book。 He was very vulnerable because of this and he didn't like it, but Eleena meant so much to him at the same time。 Overall I enjoyed the book, but it wasn't memorable for me。 The plot was quite predictable and a times was a bit boring for me。 The world building wasn't as great as the previous book。 。。。more

Just a story written around the The Old Republic trailer。 Nothing really interesting for me regarding Star Wars lore or characterization。 Romance was sub par, could have done away with it。 Z-man was too much of a stereotypical rugged, badass male protagonist with his “pet the dog” daughter。 Malgus was the same, except Sith and evil。 Not much to say about Aryn。Not much to see here。 If youre a fan of the mmorpg then you may enjoy reading this but you’d save time reading the wiki, as it showcases a Just a story written around the The Old Republic trailer。 Nothing really interesting for me regarding Star Wars lore or characterization。 Romance was sub par, could have done away with it。 Z-man was too much of a stereotypical rugged, badass male protagonist with his “pet the dog” daughter。 Malgus was the same, except Sith and evil。 Not much to say about Aryn。Not much to see here。 If youre a fan of the mmorpg then you may enjoy reading this but you’d save time reading the wiki, as it showcases about the same emotional depth。It was fun to listen to the audiobook as it had those familiar sound effects and musical cues。 。。。more

TLDR: Just play the MMO。 I will try to make the review for this book quick, so I'm going off script and just typing as I go。 I picked up "Deceived" via Audiobook to learn a little bit more of The Old Republic era after playing all the games, including the MMO。 This is also right after Disney released its High Republic books so, to prepare a kind of chronological read, I dove straight in。 The main reason I was excited for this book was to learn more about Darth Malgus, in particular。 It was cool TLDR: Just play the MMO。 I will try to make the review for this book quick, so I'm going off script and just typing as I go。 I picked up "Deceived" via Audiobook to learn a little bit more of The Old Republic era after playing all the games, including the MMO。 This is also right after Disney released its High Republic books so, to prepare a kind of chronological read, I dove straight in。 The main reason I was excited for this book was to learn more about Darth Malgus, in particular。 It was cool but I was, overall, disappointed。 His story was pretty much the Sith Warrior's story from the MMO and, sadly, there is not much to his character that is not seen outside the released cinematics for the MMO。 In fact, the best action sequence in this book was LITERALLY the cinematic of the same name: Deceived。 Other than Malgus's arc, there is very little that this book offers that can't be found in other novels。Everything was fairly predictable and the book felt really cookie cutter。 This book, in summary, did a lot but didn't really do anything (if that makes any sense)。 It just felt like a bland action-adventure story that is not so far off from the Star Wars movies。 The characters are also one dimensional, as well, each with a single motivation that drives the "plot"。 Erin: revenge。 And Zyrad: one last heist。 Honestly, I much preferred "Titanborn's" Malcom Graves a lot better than Zyrad (and I didn't even finish that book yet)。This book is supposed to be a tie in to the MMO, which leaves little room for some creative freedom。 I get it。 I read Drew Karpynshyn's "Revan" last year and that book was far better than this one because, at least, it added new characters like Scourge (who had a much better character arc than Malgus。) There was new ground tread in that novel and, ultimately, got me interested in seeing how the story would progress if it had been attempted。At the end of the day, "Deceived" is a "meh" kind of book。 It's decent enough to not be boring。 It certainly will be sufficient for a lot of audiences who don't play the games and want to explore a bit of the Old Republic; however, I can't personally justify recommending this book to anyone I know。 This book can be skipped, but I'm not against anyone who wants to pick it up。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I thought this book was an interesting read! Both of the main characters were intriguing。 The time period was fun to learn more about, and getting to see more about the early days of Coruscant was nice as well! I think it’s a good addition to my Star Wars collection。 I think more than almost anything else, the relationships in this book were fun to read。 Not characters struggle with temptation。 Malgus with his love for Eleena, and Aryn with her anger at her Master’s death。 The way this book desc I thought this book was an interesting read! Solid BookVery short story, but very interesting insight into Darth Malgus。 It’s cool to see a complex Sith Lord。 I wish he could have played a bigger role in the Universe。

Great story I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Old Republic stories。 Whether you think it’s canon or not, the books have been great。 After the first twenty pages, I stopped caring where it for into the Star Wars universe。 Just shut up and read

It wasn’t necessarily the best novel plotwise compared to Revan which I loved a lot, however it was still relatively enjoyable。 It gets a little slow in the middle however the ending is pretty satisfying and has a few unexpected twists along the way。 Overall it wasn’t terrible but more average。

Darth Malgus is an awesome character。 It’s too bad there aren’t more books from this time period。 I give it 4。2 stars and I wish there was a follow up。 Worth rereading someday and following up with the essential chronology for the surrounding time period。

His desire for conflict is his driving force, the thought of peace drives him deeper into madness。 Looking at the cover of the book, he looks like pure evil, intimidating to all in his path。 Malgus has one weakness and with a slip up in battle, exposes it to his foes。Aryn Leneer: She’s a Jedi with empathic force abilities。 She is powerful in the force, feeling what others cannot。 While the galaxy she knows begins to crumble, her will does not allow her to sit idly by and wait for a solution as her peers do。 She comes to a fork in the Jedi road, one that leads to light… the other to darkness。OVERALL THOUGHTS: Paul S。 Kemp is such a good high intensity writer。 I really enjoyed reading this novel。 I think it’s important I mention that there is a whole other storyline that takes place in the book that I didn’t mention in the summary, not because it’s bad, but because I don’t want to give you all the information。For me, it’s rare to sit at the edge of my seat while reading a book。 The first few chapters were so intense。 I couldn’t peel my eyes from the words。 The character development was excellent。 The chemistry between all characters was fluid。 I really hope to come across these characters again somewhere in The Old Republic timeline… but I doubt it。 Darth Malgus is so disturbingly awesome。 I can’t think of anything negative to say about this book。 I loved every page of it。Do I recommend that you read Star Wars: The Old Republic – Deceived? Absolutely。 Buy it now。 Read it now。RATING: I give this book an A+。 It was fast paced, surprising, and just so cool。 I have nothing negative to say about the book。 。。。more
