Summary

Meet Maud: a guinea pig who inexplicably wears a judo suit - and not everyone understands or approves。 When Maud is thrown into a new and confusing situation, it takes brave decisions and serendipitous encounters for her to find her place and embrace her individuality。

The charming characters of Magenta Fox, whose work is evocative of Raymond Briggs and Janet Ahlberg, perfectly offset Zadie and Nick's warm, wry prose。

Weirdo is an endearing story about the quiet power of being different by two veteran writers, and introduces an exciting debut illustrator。 Together they have created a picture book that adults and children alike will treasure。

The first picture book from the real life couple Zadie Smith and Nick Laird is the adorable eccentric Weirdo。 The tale of a little round guinea pig who is given to Kit as a surprise birthday present。 The other pets think ‘the Surprise’ is odd because she arrives in a Judo suit, and doesn’t understand The Schedule。 Over the course of the story she learns that it’s great to be different and that she should be accepted on her own terms。 Featuring possibly my favourite character this year so far, th The first picture book from the real life couple Zadie Smith and Nick Laird is the adorable eccentric Weirdo。 The tale of a little round guinea pig who is given to Kit as a surprise birthday present。 The other pets think ‘the Surprise’ is odd because she arrives in a Judo suit, and doesn’t understand The Schedule。 Over the course of the story she learns that it’s great to be different and that she should be accepted on her own terms。 Featuring possibly my favourite character this year so far, the indomitable Emily Brookstein who teaches us to embrace the odd, this book is beautifully written and gently poetic。 The real revelation though is the artwork by debut illustrator @madge_fox 。 If there’s any justice, she is going to be a STAR。 The art is STUNNING, so adorable and bursting with character and expression。 There is something nostalgic about her style yet the book is totally fresh。 Every page has art that could be framed and if @penguinrandomhouse / @penguinukbooks / @puffinbooksuk want to produce prints as a pre order incentive then I will be buying a paperback just to get something to put on my kids walls。 I am gutted to find out that Magenta Fox doesn’t seem have an online/etsy store for prints。 Wahhh!LIFE’S TOO SHORT NOT TO BE A WEIRDO。This copy was #gifted by the publisher in exchange for an honest review and is released on April 15th。 。。。more
