Summary

In this gripping sequel to the New York Times bestselling Infinity Son, Adam Silvera brings a diverse cast of heroes and villains to life in an alternate New York where some people are born with powers, while others steal them from the blood of endangered magical creatures。

Emil and Brighton defied the odds。 They beat the Blood Casters and escaped with their lives—or so they thought。 When Brighton drank the Reaper's Blood, he believed it would make him invincible, but instead the potion is killing him。

In Emil's race to find an antidote that will not only save his brother but also rid him of his own unwanted phoenix powers, he will have to dig deep into the very past lives he's trying to outrun。 Though he needs the help of the Spell Walkers now more than ever, their ranks are fracturing, with Maribelle's thirst for revenge sending her down a dangerous path。

Meanwhile, Ness is being abused by Senator Iron for political gain, his rare shifting ability making him a dangerous weapon。 As much as Ness longs to send Emil a signal, he knows the best way to keep Emil safe from his corrupt father is to keep him at a distance。

The battle for peace is playing out like an intricate game of chess, and as the pieces on the board move into place, Emil starts to realize that he may have been competing against the wrong enemy all along。

This book was incredible!! I’ve loved Adam’s books for a while now, and was very excited when he announced he was working on a fantasy series。 I loved Infinity Son, but my only concern was that it felt almost too fast paced? As if he was trying to fit the story into too few pages, so he didn’t get to develop things in the way we usually see in his books。 That wasn’t the case At All with Infinity Reaper (which is probably why it’s so big, something I was very excited about)。 Everything is paced S This book was incredible!! It’s a logical title considering the set up and meaning within the series, and is a pun? I feel strongly about this, but I digress)。 Would 110% recommend reading this, it’s fun, exciting, emotional at times, and just overall a wonderful read that’ll leave you excited for more。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I liked this one more than Infinity Son, so this is technically 3。5 stars for me。 I think this book is really good for younger readers and I think a lot of young boys specifically would really enjoy it。 I’m not really someone who enjoys stories like this but I love Adam Silvera’s writing and his stories so it was still enjoyable for me! Because that whole situation hurt my heart so much, I feel so sad for Wyatt。 Anyways, overall it is enjoyable。 The characters are much more intricate and complex in this one。 I’m ready to see where their stories go。 。。。more

I like Infinity Reaper。 I do not like Brighton。In Infinity Son you knew who the main character was, even though we got different view points and narrators throughout。 This book it's a lot more "confuddled。" I don't really know who I'm supposed to be rooting for, and Brighton is just so damn unlikable as a character。 It's also extremely obvious where his character arc was going。 No specific spoilers, but it's pretty obvious。Outside of Brighton and his character/storylines, I really liked this boo I like Infinity Reaper。 I do not like Brighton。In Infinity Son you knew who the main character was, even though we got different view points and narrators throughout。 This book it's a lot more "confuddled。" I don't really know who I'm supposed to be rooting for, and Brighton is just so damn unlikable as a character。 It's also extremely obvious where his character arc was going。 No specific spoilers, but it's pretty obvious。Outside of Brighton and his character/storylines, I really liked this book。 I liked Emil's little love triangle, all the stuff from Ness' point of view。 Also Maribelle's storyline is interesting too。 Some of the new characters are really strong and I can't wait to see what happens in Book 3。 Brighton can go though。I will say the audiobook version is a bit overwhelming at the beginning because it starts with them just listing every single character in the universe and it is IMPOSSIBLE to track! I know this is super helpful in the physical book version where the reader can go back and check names to follow along, but for the audio version it doesn't work。 So anyone listening to the audiobook version, once you get past the 100 or so names and character descriptions, you'll be good to go! 。。。more

And become a Halo Knight if I had any physical skills。 But anyway, this place has all kinds of different phoenixes, including little baby ones。 There’s a scene where Emil is in their nest area and it was such a soft and lovely moment。 I adored it。Throughout the course of the novel Brighton became a character I liked less and less, and I could see who he was going to become from a mile away。 I don’t know how he and Emil turned out so different but I guess Brighton’s hunger for fame really gets in the way of everything, including being a decent person。 I’m interested to see how his arc progresses further in the series, and I truly hope he ends up being a better person than he is now。The romance element in Infinity Reaper was increased from the first book, but it also formed a bit of a love triangle。 I don’t mind because we haven’t had enough of this trope in queer books so I won’t have any complaints from people who were happy to read it a thousand times in non-queer books。 I do have a firm favourite in Ness, but I also really like the new love interest, too。 To be honest I don’t think Emil will be going wrong with either of them, but I do hope the one he doesn’t choose gets to be happy, as well。In the end I’m really happy I read Infinity Reaper because I have a new queer fantasy series that I’m invested in。 I can’t wait until the next book because apparently Silvera loves torturing us with cliffhangers in this series and book two was no different。 Hopefully the wait isn’t too long!© 2021, Chiara @ Books for a Delicate Eternity。 All rights reserved。rigger warning: adopted main character, blood and gore, reference to torture, reference to multiple parent deaths, references to animal abuse and cruelty, physical fights, murder, discrimination, reference to suicidality, reference to child abuse, reference to death of significant other, main character with anxiety and depression, reference to panic attack, hostage situation 。。。more

I liked this better than the first one, but it was another reminder that I am not a fantasy reader。 I will stick it out now, but I definitely preferred the interpersonal relationship scenes to the action and trying to keep track of the difference between specters and celestials。

I read Infinity Son when it first came out a year or so ago, and my memory of it was pretty foggy when I returned to the series to read this one。 I found the beginning really hard to follow, and I think it may have been because of this, so I would recommend reading them together。 The themes and ideas presented in this book were interesting, and I never wanted to DNF it, but I still wasn't a huge fan of this book。 The casual and modern writing style wasn't for me; which isn't to say it isn't for I read Infinity Son when it first came out a year or so ago, and my memory of it was pretty foggy when I returned to the series to read this one。 I found the beginning really hard to follow, and I think it may have been because of this, so I would recommend reading them together。 The themes and ideas presented in this book were interesting, and I never wanted to DNF it, but I still wasn't a huge fan of this book。 The casual and modern writing style wasn't for me; which isn't to say it isn't for anyone。 (To be clear: They Both Die at the End is one of my favorite books of all time, so I don't know if my preference just changed or if it was any different lol) Though I found most of the plot twists weird and not very impactful on me in the way they were revealed, they weren't necessarily bad, and were interesting looking back。 All in all, this book was okay, but not my favorite。 。。。more

I’m never going to get anywhere in life if I’m waiting for everything to be perfect。 🍃There was an important improvement here, but, there are several mixed feelings also。 Did I enjoy reading this book? Yes, but there’s an opposite side too。 There are so many soppy paragraphs and replete with silly lines where I couldn’t help but roll my eyes, it felt overdramatic instead of atmospheric, it helps that the book has a comedy touch which helps to ease these times, in general, this is not a patter I’m never going to get anywhere in life if I’m waiting for everything to be perfect。 🍃There was an important improvement here, but, there are several mixed feelings also。 Did I enjoy reading this book? Yes, but there’s an opposite side too。 There are so many soppy paragraphs and replete with silly lines where I couldn’t help but roll my eyes, it felt overdramatic instead of atmospheric, it helps that the book has a comedy touch which helps to ease these times, in general, this is not a pattern through all the book, so in conclusion, the dialogue and writing could be likable。The plot was appealing enough, I feel like it was well structured it and every piece in the puzzle fitted exactly and it’s more obvious when you start to retrocycling – hahaha - into the bites of information you get through this series and connect it to the different characters, it’s like all make sense at last, for instance, why this character has this ability or knows certain things, the secrets, the family connections, as a reader I felt very engaged connecting the dots, and the intrigue ate me alive several times。There was this time I felt stuck in a character where all his action was developing in a hospital’s bed, I mean, this could be a good trope in a Contemporary novel, but it’s not what I want in a fantasy book, I want to explore more in this world, and we did certainly, I can say there’s a progressive improvement through the story。I think it’s still hard to connect with most of the characters, I want to feel like them and get to understand their actions but it did not happen, I’m here talking about Maribelle specifically, she’s one of the main characters but her personality didn’t click anywhere in me, we had Brighton in the other hand which has a prominent role in making me feel so uncomfortable and get to my nerves, I think I haven’t hated this much a fictional character since Zara Dearborn (That’s a lot to say)。 However, I cared more for some of them, If I’m honest I’m here for the gay romance, it’s cute and this new addition gave some flavor to the action, I know it’s kinda cliché a love triangle but I’m living it up this one。 Also, I have to note that even If I hate Brighton I saw a development in his relationship with Pru, the flow between them felt good。 You really think I’m so weak to be heartbroken by that。 Your pride is wounded and always gets in your way of admitting when you’re wrong。 That finale was interesting, I enjoyed watching Brighton’s true face thanks to Ness, I knew he would be the real villain, I hope he dies。 Pardon me, but did Brighton rip out his own heart too? Favorite Scenes:(view spoiler)[🔥 Maribelle recalling good old memories with Iris and Eva (It is actually the only tiny time I felt something with this character)🔥 Wyatt’s aka sexy Halo Knight's entrance🔥 Wyatt taking Emil for a flight, this is exactly how a fantasy book should feel🔥 That couple of last chapters got me thinking yet。 (hide spoiler)]This book is entertaining and has cute romance and some drama with two hot boys, the setting improved since we could visit an amazing sanctuary and my new hobby is making connections between the characters and the secrets they all keep。 I hope the next installment will take things further。 。。。more

Infinity Reaper (Book 2, Infinity Cycle) - Adam Silvera I was kindly given a copy of this book by the publisher in order to provide an honest review。 Adam Silvera is an American author who has written books such as “Infinity Son”, “They Both Die At The End” and “More Happy Than Not”。 This story starts right where the author left us at the end of “Infinity Son” - brothers Emil and Brighton are with their friends battling the blood casters and Luna。 Yet, just as Emil thinks it is over and they Infinity Reaper (Book 2, Infinity Cycle) - Adam Silvera I was kindly given a copy of this book by the publisher in order to provide an honest review。 Adam Silvera is an American author who has written books such as “Infinity Son”, “They Both Die At The End” and “More Happy Than Not”。 This story starts right where the author left us at the end of “Infinity Son” - brothers Emil and Brighton are with their friends battling the blood casters and Luna。 Yet, just as Emil thinks it is over and they have put an end to the madness – Brighton does the unthinkable。 He drinks the potion Luna has sacrificed a phoenix for, and other supernatural creatures, her Reaper’s Blood potion。 However, Brighton may have just signed his own death warrant, as the potion courses through his body it also seems to be killing him。 Emil is beside himself with worry from his brother – did he not learn from their father’s death or is this what has spurred him to do this? It soon becomes clear what has led Brighton to this – his hunger for power, his hunger to be in the spotlight – to be the hero。 Emil and his friends have many trials ahead dealing with their own demons and pasts。 Discovering more about themselves and who they truly are which is confronting as it is emboldening。 They also learn much about the Halo Knights and their kind – they love and care they show phoenixes。 While they are battling this Ness is going through is won battle。 A captive of this father he is forced to use his powers to further his father’s plans and ambitions, little does he realise the true depths of his depravity and what lengths he won't go to。 Still, the final battle is yet to come and will be between the unlikeliest of opponents。 “Infinity Reaper” is a book I awaited with much anticipation to read。 Unlike “Infinity Son” this story did not have as much action yet seemed to delve into the backgrounds and the hows and whys。 The main action of the story came right at the end with a twist that was certainly leave readers on their edge of their seats awaiting the outcome – an outcome I hope has a happy ending rather than a bittersweet one (but I suspect it will be bittersweet)。 I enjoyed reading the character development of Brighton and learning more about Ness – though I believe there is going to be hard and troubling times ahead for Emil。 He will need to mark some hard choices and hopefully he can live with them。 。。。more

Adam really out did himself with this one。 Infinity Son was a pretty okay book。 Compared to Adam's contemporary novels I felt it lacked a bit of the quintessential Silvera emotion。 But Infinity Reaper definitely made up for all of what Infinity Son lacked。Where as in Son I felt the world building as minimal and I had a lot of questions about how everything worked, in Reaper I felt understanding in the world these books take place in。 The story did lull a bit in the middle parts, but the ending w Adam really out did himself with this one。 Infinity Son was a pretty okay book。 Compared to Adam's contemporary novels I felt it lacked a bit of the quintessential Silvera emotion。 But Infinity Reaper definitely made up for all of what Infinity Son lacked。Where as in Son I felt the world building as minimal and I had a lot of questions about how everything worked, in Reaper I felt understanding in the world these books take place in。 The story did lull a bit in the middle parts, but the ending was quick and finished with a stunning flourish。 Just like Son, it ends with a nail-biting cliff hanger that left me excited for the third book。My favorite part of this book was the dynamic between Emil and Brighton。 Without giving too many spoilers, I enjoyed the development both of these characters were given。 I also feel like Adam delved deeper into each brother's psyche to give us a better understanding of who they are as people。 。。。more

I really enjoyed the first one but this one was even better。 We got to spend a lot more time with the characters and in this world。 And the Ending! Of course Adam managed to pull me off my seat and then made me want to throw the book across the room (in a good way)。 The cliffhanger was worse than the first one and I can’t wait to read the next installment! My only problem was the writing at the beginning, it took a moment to get into it but then I couldn’t put it down。

If there was a book award for creating the most hateable character in literature, Adam Silvera should win it for Brighton。 The number of times I wanted to punch Brighton is too damn high and at the same time not high enough。 Seriously, major props to Adam for creating such a hateable character。 If I were to write my own book (I do have ideas), I would hope to create half as hateable a character as Brighton。 Adam has set the bar high。 Some people might have similar thoughts about Maribelle, but I If there was a book award for creating the most hateable character in literature, Adam Silvera should win it for Brighton。 The number of times I wanted to punch Brighton is too damn high and at the same time not high enough。 Seriously, major props to Adam for creating such a hateable character。 If I were to write my own book (I do have ideas), I would hope to create half as hateable a character as Brighton。 Adam has set the bar high。 Some people might have similar thoughts about Maribelle, but I actually admire her in regard to her drive for revenge。Infinity Reaper is a strong continuation of the story started in Infinity Son。 Adam has fleshed out more of the characters while also introducing new characters, like the Halo Knights。 We see the continued struggle between Emil and Brighton, Emil trying to get rid of his powers and Brighton wanting to take center stage with (or without) Emil。 Like any Adam Silvera book, there are some scenes that destroy the reader。 I was waiting in my car for my friend to get back from his first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine when I read such a scene。 I was definitely not almost crying the moment my friend got into my car。 Regardless of my emotional status with this book, Infinity Reper had a great balance of action scenes and calm moments。 Yes, there’s a greater war going on between the Spell Walkers and Blood Casters, but we do get to see the characters enjoy themselves。 But the story is also not a slow read, towards the end the pace picks up so much that you can’t not finish the last chunk in one sitting。 Speaking of the ending, THAT ENDING。 I know that Adam is busy with a bunch of other projects, but I do hope that we get the third book soon。Bonus content: This edition of Infinity Reaper includes a short story, about Ness called First Face。 We get to see Ness before he became a shapeshifter。 This gives us a look at what Ness’s life was like under the rule of the Senator, and we get to witness two important events, the Blackout, and Ness becoming a specter。 Plus, there is a special shout out to an awesome person in this story。 There is a star with a very special name。 。。。more
