5 starsThis is book 10 so I am probably way too deep into this series and may seem a bit bias。Overall I loved the over arcing storyline and the progression of our main character in this book。 The first few chapters are a tad slower in pace and a different perspective from the usual narrative we get from the other books。 But when it does pick up， it just keeps rolling。The twist/revelation later on has been highly theorized by the community and may elicit a divided reaction from fans but personall 5 starsThis is book 10 so I am probably way too deep into this series and may seem a bit bias。Overall I loved the over arcing storyline and the progression of our main character in this book。 The first few chapters are a tad slower in pace and a different perspective from the usual narrative we get from the other books。 But when it does pick up， it just keeps rolling。The twist/revelation later on has been highly theorized by the community and may elicit a divided reaction from fans but personally I am ok with it as I cannot fathom how Will can end the series satisfyingly in 2 more books if he went a different path。Also。。。。 I love the bloopers at the end。 It gives a light-hearted personality to this series。 。。。more

First impressions （without spoilers）:I enjoyed this book more than Bloodline， despite the slow start。 I felt Will really wanted to bring back the casual life aspect that he interwove so well in Wintersteel but was lacking in Bloodline。 I appreciate the effort， but it felt like it was just a lot of individual moments but not really connected。However， when things got started _they got started_。 Top speed with great fights， growth and very big reveals。 Still a lot of jumping between perspectives， m First impressions （without spoilers）:I enjoyed this book more than Bloodline， despite the slow start。 I felt Will really wanted to bring back the casual life aspect that he interwove so well in Wintersteel but was lacking in Bloodline。 I appreciate the effort， but it felt like it was just a lot of individual moments but not really connected。However， when things got started _they got started_。 Top speed with great fights， growth and very big reveals。 Still a lot of jumping between perspectives， more so than any previous book。 I'm not set on Suriel's motivation for saving Cradle apart from Lindon。 It comes across as "cause I gotta" but feels a bit shallow。I feel bad for Mercy。 She started as very capable and powerful but she's definitely being left behind by Yerin and Lindon。 I think it's a great way moving forward with her character as it gives us a comparison and also brings up other themes of familial expectations and finding your own way。In fact， choosing your path/family is a big theme here and I love that Lindon stands by it as much as he can。 I did find it a bit ironic that he declares they should stay together and then within the next couple of chapters the opposite happens。 However， it was more a choice of the others rather than Lindon leaving them in the dust and that's the difference that counts。4/5 。。。more

This book is perhaps most well-paced in a traditional sense。 While in all other books events happen at break neck speed without much downtime， almost the first quarter of this book was a slice-of-life story。 Still， when the action did pick up it never stopped。 Another thing that felt refreshing was when the gang descends in the labyrinth it read like a proper horror book。 And Mr Wight has certainly improved as an author， even though it didn't have as many jaw-dropping moments or badass lines as This book is perhaps most well-paced in a traditional sense。 While in all other books events happen at break neck speed without much downtime， almost the first quarter of this book was a slice-of-life story。 Still， when the action did pick up it never stopped。 Another thing that felt refreshing was when the gang descends in the labyrinth it read like a proper horror book。 And Mr Wight has certainly improved as an author， even though it didn't have as many jaw-dropping moments or badass lines as Wintersteel， the overall quality was satisfactory。What I didn't enjoy was some of the worldbuilding decisions， that make what we learnt previously about Cradle seem purposefully obfuscating。 Though these deeper mysteries were answered it still felt like we are missing something or at least the answer we got was not entirely satisfactory。 Another issue I had was some plot elements that felt unearned and contradictory to the expectations set by the preceding books。 What should have been a powerful moment， fell flat and didn't elicit any strong emotions in me either way。All in all， it was a good book like Bloodline， but I fear after Wintersteel it will all be a downhill if not outright disappointing。 。。。more
