I typically find family relationships a favorite genre。 This book has a lot of interesting dynamics that mirror many adult sibling relationships。 This really appealed to me because on the surface I saw some characteristics within my own family captured here, however, the book came across as a bit over complicated。 It felt as though the angst and chaos of the certain family members were repeated over and over perhaps because she knew the reader would become so side-tracked keeping all the charact I typically find family relationships a favorite genre。 This book has a lot of interesting dynamics that mirror many adult sibling relationships。 This really appealed to me because on the surface I saw some characteristics within my own family captured here, however, the book came across as a bit over complicated。 It felt as though the angst and chaos of the certain family members were repeated over and over perhaps because she knew the reader would become so side-tracked keeping all the characters, their children and step children and estranged children straight that he/she wouldn't remember the key character's challenges? I don't know but because of all the busyness it didn't really flow well for me。 I'm sure it took a lot of effort to deliver the story as it is but I found myself getting aggravated because of the idiosyncrasies, I simply wasn't enjoying reading it。 I knew I was supposed to find these flaws funny but really I was purely annoyed。Perhaps, it was a matter of being to close to home or timing。 I'm not sure which or if that truly applies in this case。 I'm willing to give this another go but for now I have some awesome stories in my TBR pile including some ARCs so this is placed aside for now。 。。。more

Impressively good。 Thoroughly enjoyable, not ground breaking but (whispers this is my first MK) I found her style inherently readable。 I’ll definitely be reading more。

What a great read! I needed to get over the first few chapters in the beginning, because Keyes takes her time to introduce the characters and their relationships。 Once that is done the plot picks up speed and I could hardly put the book down! This was my first Marian Keyes novel。 My Mum bought if for me as a gift and I started it immediately。 I must say, it began as a slow burner but as it continued I really did enjoy delving into the lives of the Casey family。 It explores relationships, both romantic and familial, on such a drastically deep level that you question and relate to relationships in your own life。 The characters were so well written that I could see them so vividly in my head, and I now feel like I know them。 I'm despera This was my first Marian Keyes novel。 My Mum bought if for me as a gift and I started it immediately。 I must say, it began as a slow burner but as it continued I really did enjoy delving into the lives of the Casey family。 It explores relationships, both romantic and familial, on such a drastically deep level that you question and relate to relationships in your own life。 The characters were so well written that I could see them so vividly in my head, and I now feel like I know them。 I'm desperate to have a peek into their lives a few years on。 This novel tackles some hard hitting topics, but the one that struck the biggest chord with me was Cara's eating disorder。 Having suffered with disordered eating in the past (not bulimia) it was really difficult to read, and Ed leaving her actually hurt my heart。 I was elated when she made progress with recovery and even more so upon their reunion。 I actually despise Liam Casey, even if he isn't a real person, and what a vile and cruel character he was。 Nell reminds me so clearly of someone I know in real life, and I found myself rooting for her the entire time。 I could continue, as all of the characters held such depth and importance that it made the story so well rounded。 I liked the short chapters, the jump from perspective in character and the description of the endless trips away。 It made the novel flow well。 I would recommend this as a nice easy read, punctuated with some harder hitting subjects, and heartwrenchingly painful relationships。 And now。。。 Well I really want to go to Tuscany! 。。。more

4。5 stars。 I have absolutely loved Marian Keyes' books since I first read Watermelon in my maybe mid-twenties。 She writes the loveliest, most-relatable characters, even the wretched ones, and deftly balances the darkness of life (depression, domestic abuse, substance abuse, etc。) with optimism and joy。 But as I hadn't read anything by her in many years, I wondered if perhaps I had outgrown her? No, worried that maybe my fondness could be put down to nostalgia and I would be disappointed by something new。 But a handful of pages in and I knew I was back in good hands。 The Casey family is a mess, but in the best way possible, and Keyes' warmth and humor grab you right away and keep you tight。 I flew through the book while not wanting it to end。 Thankfully, 600+ pages gives you plenty to hold on to。 In the end, as always, Marian Keyes' writing feels like a long-overdue conversation with a good friend, and you can relax a little knowing that "I've got you, you're safe。" 。。。more

I've loved Marian Keyes since I first read Watermelon as a 12 year old and this was no exception。 There's such an infectious joy in her books even when she's tackling tough subjects like eating disorders in a really impactful way。This book was maybe a little long, and I'd have loved more closure on some of the characters / plot lines, but all in all a joy as ever。 She always makes me want to be Irish。 I've loved Marian Keyes since I first read Watermelon as a 12 year old and this was no exception。 There's such an infectious joy in her books even when she's tackling tough subjects like eating disorders in a really impactful way。This book was maybe a little long, and I'd have loved more closure on some of the characters / plot lines, but all in all a joy as ever。 She always makes me want to be Irish。 。。。more

I really enjoyed all the different characters narratives in this book, although at times the swapping back of timelines was quite confusing to follow along with。 I’d also say it was a tad too long than it needed to be, and some stuff could of been left out with a few minor characters too。 But overall, I liked it and looked forward to reading it every evening。

Adored it, her best yet。 An extended Irish family with wives, husbands, brothers, cousins, children, ex-partners and in-laws all thrown into the mix。 It starts at the end, leaves you with a truth-spilling cliffhanger and then the next 600 pages fill in the backstory。 And its a belter! Really recommend, I fell in love with a lot of the characters and it left me thinking about life in a different way which isnt bad, is it!

I've waited a year to read this。。。 Lots of hints dropped that it'd make a fine pressie 。。。。 Got bored and bought it anyway 😁 632 pages in 4 days (alongside college work and home schooling) should be all I need to say really。 It's brilliant, relatable characters。 Top marks。 I've waited a year to read this。。。 Lots of hints dropped that it'd make a fine pressie 。。。。 Got bored and bought it anyway 😁 632 pages in 4 days (alongside college work and home schooling) should be all I need to say really。 It's brilliant, relatable characters。 Top marks。 。。。more

No the best from Marian Keyes。 Good character development, but it was extremely long and slow paced。

Very long book which I don't mind if it's captured my attention, but there were too many characters in this one and I found myself trying to keep up until nearly halfway through! Just not enough substance for me and I felt a little disappointed。 Because I've previously enjoyed Marian Keyes I read it all and it wasn't terrible, just not what I thought it would be。 Very long book which I don't mind if it's captured my attention, but there were too many characters in this one and I found myself trying to keep up until nearly halfway through! At this point if you’ve not read a Marian Keyes where have you been? Always easy to read with moments of audible laughter and soul crushing heartbreak。 I loved the Caseys, I kind of want to be a Casey。 Just do yourself a favour and read this, then buy Marians entire back catalogue and enjoy!

Who doesn’t love a good dysfunctional family drama book?! I found myself wanting to keeping reading because I needed to know how everything worked out for everyone。。 except Liam, he’s the worst。

A long but very enjoyable read of a large Irish family。 Happy with the ending, except for the Irvine for the youngest couple。 Interesting insight into bulimia。 Loved the past set in Italy, nostalgic for Florence all over again! Also thought provoking re treatment of asylum seekers

I feel like I just spent a year with these characters。 I want to spend another。Never thought I’d commit to 600 pages of dysfunctional family drama but the Casey family were so lost, so loveable (for the most part), so readable, and the Irish charm shone through every page。 I did not agree with all their choices and one in particular left a bad taste in my mouth, but they were each flawed in a way that made them more the easier to invest in。Catch me binge reading Marian Keyes entire oeuvre。

I initially found this book confusing as so many characters are introduced right from the start, was about 250 pages in before I felt I understood who each person and was then able to get in to the story more。 The chaotic lives of the characters was great to read and each couples lives was its own story。 Enjoyed the book overall and defiantly a wonderful book to snuggle up with。 I liked the reality of the problems the couples faced and how they had a realistic ends to their stories that suited t I initially found this book confusing as so many characters are introduced right from the start, was about 250 pages in before I felt I understood who each person and was then able to get in to the story more。 The chaotic lives of the characters was great to read and each couples lives was its own story。 Enjoyed the book overall and defiantly a wonderful book to snuggle up with。 I liked the reality of the problems the couples faced and how they had a realistic ends to their stories that suited the characters。 。。。more

I heard Marian Keyes on a podcast。 The way she spoke about her life and her work resonated with me。 So I decided to check out the book she was there to promote: Grown Ups。 The first quarter of the book was a bit rough-going because of the number of characters。 Thankfully, the author included a family tree for reference。 Flipping back and forth during that first bit helped keep everyone together。By the time I was a quarter way in, I realized that I cared about the characters, rooting for wins and I heard Marian Keyes on a podcast。 The way she spoke about her life and her work resonated with me。 So I decided to check out the book she was there to promote: Grown Ups。 The first quarter of the book was a bit rough-going because of the number of characters。 Thankfully, the author included a family tree for reference。 Flipping back and forth during that first bit helped keep everyone together。By the time I was a quarter way in, I realized that I cared about the characters, rooting for wins and losses, big and small。 By the time the book finished, I was missing some of them and wishing them well。My only major issues are with some of the bougie settings。 They're sometimes justified within the story。 Otherwise, they seem like they only exist to give the story a degree of wish-fulfillment。Overall, the book was a pleasure to read and I'm glad I gave it a shot。 I will be checking out more from the author in the future。 。。。more

I’m a huge Marian Keyes fan, but after having #Grown Ups on my wish list for ages was a little worried about reviews suggesting the extended no。 of characters made this more challenging to read than her other books。 I had nothing to worry about - once I started I was utterly drawn in and absolutely devoured this in a weekend! 3。5 rounded up。 This was a completely enjoyable read。 All of the characters were intriguing and relatable and by the end of the book, I felt as though I knew them all and was rooting for their happiness。 Life and families are complicated and this story exemplifies that in a realistic and loveable way。

Literally nothing happens and it’s all just banter and story telling about a family over the course of a year but I still wanted to read more。 Could have been heaps shorter。

I found I got in to the book quickly, but felt like it didn't really go anywhere。 Great first chapter that gets you intrigued, and then doesn't really get back up to that level。 I found myself just wanting to get through it to see if the ending gets exciting。 The characters are developed well, although there are a lot of them。 But felt there was a lot of unnecessary dialogue and times where I felt it could have been more concise。 It does deal with a lot of different subject matters and how it ha I found I got in to the book quickly, but felt like it didn't really go anywhere。 Great first chapter that gets you intrigued, and then doesn't really get back up to that level。 I found myself just wanting to get through it to see if the ending gets exciting。 The characters are developed well, although there are a lot of them。 But felt there was a lot of unnecessary dialogue and times where I felt it could have been more concise。 It does deal with a lot of different subject matters and how it has affected the particular character, however disappointed it never got back to its intriguing and interesting first chapter! 。。。more
