Summary

Life for Emma isn’t good。 The world knows her as Princess Anya on Dark Castle, but then her character gets the axe—literally。 The cherry on top is finding her boyfriend in bed with another woman。 She needs a break, and sanctuary comes in the form of Rosemont, a gorgeous estate in California promising rest and relaxation。

Then she meets the owner’s equally gorgeous grandson, ex–hockey player and current recluse Lucian Osmond, and she sees her own pain and yearning reflected in his eyes。

He’s charming when he wants to be but also secretive and gruff, with protective walls as thick as Emma’s own。 Despite a growing attraction, they avoid each other。

But then there’s an impromptu nighttime skinny-dip, and Lucian’s luscious homemade tarts and cream cakes start arriving at Emma’s door, tempting her to taste life again…

In trying to stay apart, they only grow closer—and their broken pieces just might fit together and make them whole。

From New York Times bestselling author Kristen Callihan comes a charming, emotional romance about redefining dreams and discovering unlikely love along the way。

I’m always excited to read a new KC book, she’s one of my very favourite contemporary romance authors。 This book lived up to its title – sweet。 And I was delighted to see that this book followed on from Macon Saint’s book, Dear Enemy That was a nice surprise! While this wasn’t one of my fav books from KC, I still enjoyed it。 I found it lacked tension for me, but it was soft and sweet and gooey and lovely, with some beautiful writing and some great tender moments between the characters。I did want I’m always excited to read a new KC book, she’s one of my very favourite contemporary romance authors。 This book lived up to its title – sweet。 And I was delighted to see that this book followed on from Macon Saint’s book, Dear Enemy That was a nice surprise! While this wasn’t one of my fav books from KC, I still enjoyed it。 I found it lacked tension for me, but it was soft and sweet and gooey and lovely, with some beautiful writing and some great tender moments between the characters。I did want to give Lucian a smack a few times, because he had a good sized stubborn streak, but I thought there was good chemistry between the characters, and it was just a nice book to read。 。。。more

Make it Sweet is a charming and wholesome romance that I think it’s perfect for the warm spring weather! New to me author。 This is a mf contemporary story set in the USA。 I listened to the audiobook。 Hero Lucian a recently retired ice hockey player, forced to retire due to head injuries。 Heroine Emma an actress in the dumps because she lost a long term acting part。 They meet at Luciano grandmothers Estate。 Sparkes fly and after some wrong turns they end up together。

This book had a lot of potential and I think a better editor would have polished it into a much better book。 The things I liked about the book were (1) the premise; and (2) the main characters' characeterizations。 Unfortunately, the book was way too long for no reason。 Lots and lots and even more inner monologues that didn't even tell the reader something the reader didn't already know - just repetitive and monotonous。 I think if it had been cut by 20-25%, it would have been a much tighter, bett This book had a lot of potential and I think a better editor would have polished it into a much better book。 The things I liked about the book were (1) the premise; and (2) the main characters' characeterizations。 Unfortunately, the book was way too long for no reason。 Lots and lots and even more inner monologues that didn't even tell the reader something the reader didn't already know - just repetitive and monotonous。 I think if it had been cut by 20-25%, it would have been a much tighter, better book。 There some artificial barriers put up towards the end that were silly and again, seemed to be included to lengthen the book, not to show any growth by the characters。 。。。more

I loved the prologue。 I even enjoyed the first chapters or so with Emma, and the first meeting with Lucian。 Unfortunately after this。。。 nothing much happened at all。 I skim read the entirety and didn’t feel like there was any plot。 The story was a bit boring :(

"Danced In The Dark"This story was an art in seduction and I loved every moment! From the minute Luc and Emma meet, you can FEEL the pull, the spark is undeniable and the chemistry off the charts。 I enjoyed the grumpy ex- hockey player who can also bake like a world renowned pastry chef。 I loved how broken Luc was how defeated but on the other hand how much he cared for Emma, how he put so much care into everything he created。 And I felt equally as much for Emma and the loss she had to navigate "Danced In The Dark"This story was an art in seduction and I loved every moment! I really loved this slow burn romance。 It was just so simple and so sweet。 This has depth while not being dark or angsty。 The characters were well developed and had a realism to them while not being too weighted down。 Kristen Callihan truly did write a book the reads like a yummy dessert。 Enjoy! 🍯🥧 ❤ 🍯🐝

#4, I crave french pastries, stars!!!!I loved everything in this story, the characters, the plot, how realistic their problems and anxieties were and above all the food and setting。 California must be a paradise on earth。。I can't help it, I'm an architect and I notice these things。。。Lucian is a retired (view spoiler)[due to many repetitive concussions (hide spoiler)] 28 yo, hockey player, withdrawn to his grandmother's estate to recuperate and make decisions about his future。 How fortunate of hi #4, I crave french pastries, stars!!!!I loved everything in this story, the characters, the plot, how realistic their problems and anxieties were and above all the food and setting。 California must be a paradise on earth。。I can't help it, I'm an architect and I notice these things。。。Lucian is a retired (view spoiler)[due to many repetitive concussions (hide spoiler)] 28 yo, hockey player, withdrawn to his grandmother's estate to recuperate and make decisions about his future。 How fortunate of him to be gifted not with one, but two talents to thrive upon, because Lucian might have been a force to be reckoned with on the ice, but he excels in the kitchen, too。 His desserts are repeatedly described as orgasmic。。。。Emma is a wide-known actress, in between jobs and out of a relationship, also seeking selter to lick her wounds out of the public eye。 Their attraction is very strong from the start but they are both reluctant to act upon it, each for his own reasons。 I wouldn't call it a slow-burn romance, because really they are only in close proximity only for a few weeks, but it is sweet to watch as they try to resist the pull and desire。。。So, why only 4 stars, you say。。。 Excellent writting and great characters aside, the story is really predictable。 There is nothing original in the plot, nothing that I haven't read before in similar books。 No twist or situation that I haven't seen coming from a mile away。 So that's that。。。。Still, I will possibly read it again in the future, if only for the great descriptions of the landscape and the estate's architecture, the delicious desserts and the feelings between the MC's。。["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]> 。。。more

This was such a beautiful story with compelling characters。 Lucian and Emma have both been beaten down by life and aren’t sure where to go next。 From the very first scene, their chemistry is sizzling and their banter kept a grin on my face。 It’s a bit of grump and sunshine。 Their story takes place on the beautiful grounds of Lucian’s grandmothers estate。 Lucian has retreated there after his shattered hockey career to help out and hide。 Emma is invited once she learns her career is in shambles。 T This was such a beautiful story with compelling characters。 Lucian and Emma have both been beaten down by life and aren’t sure where to go next。 From the very first scene, their chemistry is sizzling and their banter kept a grin on my face。 It’s a bit of grump and sunshine。 Their story takes place on the beautiful grounds of Lucian’s grandmothers estate。 Lucian has retreated there after his shattered hockey career to help out and hide。 Emma is invited once she learns her career is in shambles。 Through Lucian’s grandmothers meddling, the two find themselves constantly pushed together。 They’re both hesitant and guarded, but unable to deny their chemistry and draw toward one another。 The sexual tension is 🔥🔥🔥。 I loved these two。 Their hurts and baggage are believable, and their growing relationship is swoonworthy。 The story is full of mouthwatering baking scenes and is just a heartwarming book to settle in to and stay a while。 The supporting characters are charming。 A big thank you to @netgalley for the ARC。 This book released in late February so if you’re a fan of romance, add it to your TBR! 。。。more

I'm really sad I left this review so long so that I've lost details。 I hate when that happens。 It's pure wish-fulfillment with not only the lead characters but Lucian's setup at his grandmother's little retreat is that times two。 This isn't a bad thing。 Frankly, I loved more than a little having Emma coming from a Game of Thrones-alike and how that means literally millions have seen her in sexually explicit scenes。 That whole background was intriguingly constructed。 I particularly liked that the I'm really sad I left this review so long so that I've lost details。 I hate when that happens。 It's pure wish-fulfillment with not only the lead characters but Lucian's setup at his grandmother's little retreat is that times two。 This isn't a bad thing。 Frankly, I loved more than a little having Emma coming from a Game of Thrones-alike and how that means literally millions have seen her in sexually explicit scenes。 That whole background was intriguingly constructed。 I particularly liked that the costar she was sexually explicit with was such a stand-up guy and so devoted to his fiancée and how they stood as such a strong relationship example all-around。Indeed, Emma is kind of pure win, frankly。 Lucian less so。 I just don't like the whiner-baby at the heart of his character。 I have sympathy for the tragic loss of his dream/career。 And I get mourning over that loss, so I don't want to be too harsh with him。 I can't help feeling that he takes it to an extreme, though。 And that goes double for the idiocy that produces the dark moment。 It's particularly galling when there's a nearly ideal solution staring him in the face in his love of cooking。 That he resists taking that seriously so assiduously broke a lot of my engagement with him。Offsetting that a bit is all the secondary characters。 Lucian's family is pure gold, and that includes the not-so-fun/nice brother and the skeevy cousin。 Seriously, there's some great back-and-forth in the story and having Emma along just enhanced how sweet it was。 And yeah, backreference to the title was deliberate。 I'm sorry。。。Anyway, this came out a solid four stars and that's pretty much all down to Lucian。 It wasn't so bad that I was building a better man for Emma to run off with, but that's kind of a low expectation, don't ya think?A note about Steamy: So there were explicit sex scenes but I've lost the sense for where they fall on my steam tolerance。 Not outside it, at any rate。 One of the best aspects of Lucian was his bone-deep recognition of Emma as distinct from the character she portrayed。 There's an exchange where she's just a little unsure about him expecting that character and his response was just awesome。 。。。more

I fucking loved this book。 From the very beginning, the writing, the story, the setting, the characters-- everything MADE SENSE。 Everything fit together perfectly。 The tone of the story was just perfection and I knew I was going to fly through this story。Two superstars find themselves in a safe haven。 We have Emma, a very famous actress who has been portraying a beautiful princess in a very Game-of-Thrones fantasy TV show。 After she reads the latest script, she finds out she has been chopped, and when she goes to her place so her boyfriend consoles her, she finds him having sex with another person。 That's why she's arriving in California, trying to rebuild herself at a precious enormous estate。 There is where she finds our grumpy fluff, Lucian。I really want more "I hate everyone but YOU" heroes in romance。 Lucian is one because he's so grumpy and does a lot of "hmm" as responses。 We love to see it。 But as soon as he meets Emma, you can see his walls, his crunchy outside, just slowly fall down。 Emma is that ball of sunshine he cannot help but just gravitate towards。 They're so perfect together and you see their attraction so clearly, it's so believable! There's a slow burn that really culminates at the halfway mark but it still feels like a slow burn because Callihan really wrote this connection SO WELL。Loved that this book talked about Post-concussion Syndrome, we don't see it a lot in sports romances。 A lot of sports are very dangerous, to your mind and to your body。 Definitely contact sports are going to affect you in some way。 Lucian is a former hockey player who suffers from PCS and Kristen Callihan does a very good job of showing us how an athlete lives through that。What more can I say about this book? The hero bakes, he's very soft for the heroine, there is a lot of cute nicknames, a very wild skinny-dipping pool scene, so many descriptions of delicious desserts (please have baked goods near you when reading this book!), and very good writing。If you loved Love at First by Kate Clayborn, I think you would enjoy this book as well。 。。。more

This book had two things I love: hockey-related-romance & food porn。 The descriptions of food and food preparation *sigh*。 The romance was a little under-developed。 The main characters had great backstory and the premise was promising; however I found there were some missed opportunities and awkward dialogue。
