Summary

Lara has only one thought when her husband is taken prisoner: I will do whatever it takes to set you free。

A queen now in exile as a traitor, Lara has watched Ithicana be conquered by her own father, helpless to do anything to stop the destruction。 But when she learns her husband, Aren, has been captured in battle, Lara knows there is only one reason her father is keeping him alive: as bait for his traitorous daughter。

And it is bait she fully intends to take。

Risking her life to the Tempest Seas, Lara returns to Ithicana with a plan not only to free its king, but for liberating the Bridge Kingdom from her father's clutches using his own weapons: the sisters whose lives she spared。

But as Lara and her companions formulate a plan to free Aren from her father's palace, they soon discover that while it is easy to get in, it will be quite another thing to get Aren, and themselves, back out。 Not only is the palace inescapable, there are more players in the game than Lara ever realized, enemies and allies switching sides in the fight for crowns, kingdoms, and bridges。 But her greatest adversary of all might be the very man she's trying to free - the husband she betrayed。

With everything she loves in jeopardy, Lara must decide who - and what - she is fighting for: her kingdom, her husband, or for herself。

This is EVERYTHING。I love Lara so much, I don't think I've cared this much about a character for a long time honestly。 She might be a new favorite。The writing of this book was phenomenal, I loved every second of it, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment to this series。 Wow。 This is EVERYTHING。I love Lara so much, I don't think I've cared this much about a character for a long time honestly。 She might be a new favorite。The writing of this book was phenomenal, I loved every second of it, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment to this series。 Wow。 。。。more

Loved it!Lara was so badass in this book too, trying to do everything in her power to fight for Aren and his kingdom and really showing her willpower in this book, even though realistically she should have died a few times。 Aren had like one or two moments were he was a little bit annoying but I just love him? He is so precious and always trying to do good and the right thing。There was one scene between the two of them that did feel really random though? Like the timing of what they were doing was so weird haha。The ending was also amazing? I am glad that we got a happy ending but still having a few thing being open ended。 I absolutely loved Aren explaining to Lara the myth with the sharks and being reminded of the scene and just thinking: YESSSSSSS!!After reading this and knowing there will be companion novels including Keris and Zarrah I am definitely intrigued to learn more about what was going on there why certain people decided to do what they ultimately did。But all in all this duology was just very entertaining and so much fun to read! I definitely recommend! 。。。more

Although it would have been sadder but more realistic to see important charecters die rather than random insignificant people。 But it was still a full on action packed fantasy romance that I adored! I sort of did not like some of Aren's behaviour towards Lara。 I would have much preferred it if he chose her by his own accord and not due to some random myth that made his people love her again but it was what it was。 It made for a good ending to their story that they were toget 4。5 stars。 Loved it! This story was soooo good! I kept thinking there was absolutely no way things could work out between the two main characters。。。 but wow! I know there is a lot of work that will need to be done in the future of this series, but I can’t wait for more books!!! I’d also love to see more of Laura’s sisters and what their fate is。

A satisfying conclusion to the duology! Very much worth a read if you like enemies to lovers with a redemption arc! Great battle scenes and fantastic, witty dialogue between characters! It was wonderful to meet Lara's sisters and I really hope Jensen continues to explore all the characters introduced! I'm very excited for Zarrah and Keris' story and eagerly await the next installment!I will absolutely now be exploring the rest of Jensen's catalogue! A satisfying conclusion to the duology! I have to say, I enjoyed the first book more than this one。 But with that said, this book was absolutely enthralling。 This duology has been such a journey and I’m so happy that I picked it up。 The writing is fantastic, and excellent storyline and even better politics! I love a fantasy with good political threats!!!! I’m sad that this story is over, but very happy with how things wrapped up。

Very well written but lost a star because the characters were a bit annoying and the ending felt weak and rushed。

I am so happy to say that this was just as good as the first! The action was tense and non-stop, delivering not one boring minute。 My heart ached for Lara, as she struggled with trying to atone for her actions from the cliff-hanger ending of The Bridge Kingdom。 And while she did seem to never catch a break or be treated fairly, it was a great representation of real grief, guilt, and atonement that you would expect in such a dire situation。 She doesn't get off lightly, which allows her to step in I am so happy to say that this was just as good as the first! Hopefully the books to come let us look in on these great characters again。 。。。more

3 stars! Danielle Jensen is very good at stressing her readers TF out haha。 I enjoyed the story building and found that Aren and Lara have a very realistic take on their relationship。 I enjoyed meeting (or revisiting I guess) newer characters and seeing how Lara interacts with them all。 The battle scenes were well done and again, hella stressful。 I definitely enjoyed this but liked book one more。 I'm super interested to see how things will be moving forward with the next book!! 3 stars! Things I liked: I loved Lara reconnecting with her sisters- and then going to Vencia and saving Aren! So many badass action scenes and I loved their stealth。 I loved the sister scenes especially- it was so fun to see Lara reunite with them and to see their relationships after Lara poisoned them in book one to save them。 Loved her and Aren’s trek across the red desert, and them going to Valcotta together。 Lots of interesting world building。 Loved how intense the ending was! So much excitement and action and twists in the end for the big ending battleLara getting revenge and killing her father- YES LOVED! I was so happy it was her to took the killing blow Lara in general- she’s a fantastic character who is so confident in her abilities, she’s reasonable, and is so strong- I truly loved reading about her Things I didn’t like:Aren rubbed me the wrong way in some of this book- I really didn’t like how he forced Lara to stay on the boat with them when she was planning to leave them and go enact revenge on her father - plus we didn’t hear her reaction to this either - which was strange because it feels like we should have。 Also jt was very annoying that he needed her to stay with him and he couldn’t let her go- Meanwhile disrespecting her plans to go attack her father and get her revenge。 I would have preferred they had more of a conversation about this instead of it being his way or nothing else。 Felt unfair to Lara and felt he was being too controlling without care to her feelings or opinions The sex scene after Lara is almost bleeding to death with her massive cut in her thigh that was JUST stitched up- and then Aren has sex with her which could easily hurt her Injury more - when just before (and after) he said she needed to rest it- this bothered me for sure!! And it was him taking initiative to have sex with her when she was so injured- this just didn’t seem realistic and I was not a fan of that scene happening there。 Not to mention then he regrets jt and leaves her afterwards when she is SO injured。 Seemed like a dick move :/ Finally- this isn’t really something I disliked, but more of found lacking is that I would have preferred more content with her sisters- i found myself wondering what they were doing later on in the book- we hear they are safe but they were a big part of the beginning section of the book that I was invested and curious about them later on- but we don’t catch up with them later on。 Overall- I’m excited for more books by this author- and i would love some of these loose ends to be tied up later on - such as Lara’s sisters and the fate of Maridrina- so I look forward to more books in this universe。 。。。more

This book was even better than the first— which is saying a lot because The Bridge Kingdom was absolutely outstanding。 It was fast paced (without feeling rushed) and had me completely hooked the WHOLE time。 It drew me in from the first page and I wasn’t able to put it down or stop without wanting more and doesn’t happen often for me!! Hoooooooooly。 Look, book 2 can have a lot of issues (especially where the story continues on - but more on that later)。 Instead, this was just fun。 If you ever forget this book, just remember that sharks were involved in the redemption ark and that should jog your memory。 I mean, look, I loved this。 I did! I panicked and was basically holding my breath when I got to the last 50ish pages of the book and NOTHING appeared to be resolving。 So action packed and full of desire and tension and vivid adventure scenes that I had to read it in one sitting。 I enjoyed it even more than the first book。 This second book developed the fictional world to a greater extent and also allowed deeper reflection on the part of the main characters。 I really admire how Jensen writes。 She doesn’t let dialogue take over lik I panicked and was basically holding my breath when I got to the last 50ish pages of the book and NOTHING appeared to be resolving。 So action packed and full of desire and tension and vivid adventure scenes that I had to read it in one sitting。 I enjoyed it even more than the first book。 This second book developed the fictional world to a greater extent and also allowed deeper reflection on the part of the main characters。 I really admire how Jensen writes。 She doesn’t let dialogue take over like many other authors I’ve read in this genre, and she “shows” the plot unfolding instead of telling her readers, giving one clue at a time and holding us in suspense。 I love the intensity between Lara and Aren so much that I felt like I myself was about to burst。 I don’t expect to have a productive day anymore because I have to process the whirlwind I just went through。 。。。more
