This book is the second best Junji Ito book I've ever read。 Not a very strong title, but if Shiver where to not exsist, this would easily take the cake! Its so entertaining in each of the stories, and unlike most junji ito collections, there wasnt a single story i didnt like。 Tombs was really good。 Clubhouse was weird but interesting。 Slug Girl was rightfuly one of his iconic stories。 The Window Next Door is disturbing。 Washed Ashore rocked me to my core, a truly terrifiying story。 the Strange T This book is the second best Junji Ito book I've ever read。 Not a very strong title, but if Shiver where to not exsist, this would easily take the cake! This might be the best Junji Ito story collection yet, and that's saying something。 All the stories in this book were very scary, coherent and all were fairly short as well。 My one and only complaint about Ito is some of his work doesn't make a lot of sense, or kind of fizzles out at the end, but any semblance of that is completely lacking here。 Every story is amazing and they all flow together very well。 There is (from what I can tell at least) one reprint in here, "The Window Next Door" which This might be the best Junji Ito story collection yet, and that's saying something。 All the stories in this book were very scary, coherent and all were fairly short as well。 My one and only complaint about Ito is some of his work doesn't make a lot of sense, or kind of fizzles out at the end, but any semblance of that is completely lacking here。 Every story is amazing and they all flow together very well。 There is (from what I can tell at least) one reprint in here, "The Window Next Door" which was included in another of the hardcover VIZ media releases, but that happens to be one of his very best and scariest stories, so I was happy to read it again。If you're looking to start with a collection from Ito, I'd honestly recommend this one。 Extremely good。 。。。more

It's Christmas in springtime。 For I have been notified that my long-awaited preorder has shipped。 I like to imagine that tonight a jolly Jeff Bezos in bunny ears and Santa suit will come into my home, eat my cookies, and lovingly snuggle a package under my pillow after casting cherry blossoms over my sheets。 He whisks away into the moist night air bringing horrifying gifts to the other boys and girls。 It's Christmas in springtime。 For I have been notified that my long-awaited preorder has shipped。 I like to imagine that tonight a jolly Jeff Bezos in bunny ears and Santa suit will come into my home, eat my cookies, and lovingly snuggle a package under my pillow after casting cherry blossoms over my sheets。 He whisks away into the moist night air bringing horrifying gifts to the other boys and girls。 。。。more

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review。At this point I'll devour any Junji Ito collection I can access, so this was a treat。 While I would have liked more from a couple of the stories, it's a well-balanced set of body horror and psychological torment, and the art and plotlines all thoroughly creeped me out and/or made me recoil slowly as I turned the pages。 Standout stories for me include "Tombs," "The Strange Tale of the Tunnel," and "T I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review。At this point I'll devour any Junji Ito collection I can access, so this was a treat。 While I would have liked more from a couple of the stories, it's a well-balanced set of body horror and psychological torment, and the art and plotlines all thoroughly creeped me out and/or made me recoil slowly as I turned the pages。 Standout stories for me include "Tombs," "The Strange Tale of the Tunnel," and "The Bloody Story of Shirosuna。" 。。。more

Not as good as Ito Junji's Cat Diary, which put a horror movie spin on cat-human ownership。 As someone who shares space with cats, I fully appreciated the spoofy goodness that was that book。 But this collection was weird and creepy and bizarre in all the best ways。 And it 15/10 appealed to my weird little tweenage self who grew up on Scary Stories Complete Set: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and Scary Stories 3 and Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the D Not as good as Ito Junji's Cat Diary, which put a horror movie spin on cat-human ownership。 As someone who shares space with cats, I fully appreciated the spoofy goodness that was that book。 But this collection was weird and creepy and bizarre in all the best ways。 And it 15/10 appealed to my weird little tweenage self who grew up on Scary Stories Complete Set: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and Scary Stories 3 and Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark。 Of course I would expect nothing less from this author。 For more twisted tales along the same vein, check out The Crossroads at Midnight。 。。。more

Tombs by Junji Ito is a short story horror collection。 Ito is a master at making you feel uncomfortable through the use of body horror illustrations。 He uses close ups to his advantage to really make you feel the ick。 I like how each plot is slowly revealed to the main character along with the reader。 There are nine stories inside, here are my three favorites:• Tombs - tombstones appear in the exact spot where a person dies• Slug Girl - a girl's tongue turns into a slug• The Window Next Door - a Tombs by Junji Ito is a short story horror collection。 Ito is a master at making you feel uncomfortable through the use of body horror illustrations。 He uses close ups to his advantage to really make you feel the ick。 I like how each plot is slowly revealed to the main character along with the reader。 There are nine stories inside, here are my three favorites:• Tombs - tombstones appear in the exact spot where a person dies• Slug Girl - a girl's tongue turns into a slug• The Window Next Door - a creepy neighbor who appears at night Some of the stories had an abrupt ending that felt incomplete。 This was my first Ito book and I will definitely look for others。 。。。more

Junji Ito continues to create visceral horror, drawing influences as varied as Alan Schwartz, Edgar Allan Poe and David Cronenberg while maintaining his own style。 Anyone familiar with with Ito will have a sense of repetition to some stories。 Other stories feel incomplete。 There are enough moments of shock and queasiness to make up for any missteps。

ARC given by NetGalley for Honest Review4。5 stars rounded up!A fantastically creepy read! This collection of short stories really shows off Ito's writing style。 I was excited, scared, and amazed all throughout。 I like Junji Ito's idea that anything can be scary if we try hard enough, it breaks down the idea that all horror has a double meaning or a psychological undertone。 Sometimes it's just super scary to have a slug as a tongue!Washed Ashore was his weakest one and I honestly think if it was ARC given by NetGalley for Honest Review4。5 stars rounded up!A fantastically creepy read! Junji Ito continues to deliver with another good work of short stories。 The opening story Tombs gives this volume a strong start with a well conceived eerie small town with good body horror twists。 Club house and Washed Ashore are probably the weakest of the stories mostly because they don't really go anywhere。 While Ito is the master of short stories his best ones tend to be the slightly longer 60 page ones as opposed to the 20-30 page ones as it gives him more time to develop the world before Junji Ito continues to deliver with another good work of short stories。 The opening story Tombs gives this volume a strong start with a well conceived eerie small town with good body horror twists。 Club house and Washed Ashore are probably the weakest of the stories mostly because they don't really go anywhere。 While Ito is the master of short stories his best ones tend to be the slightly longer 60 page ones as opposed to the 20-30 page ones as it gives him more time to develop the world before the horror twist。 Was excited to see Slug Girl finally get an English adaptation after how much merch she has been on over the last few years。 Always a good time and fans of his previous work will continue to do so。 。。。more

I was so excited to get an early release copy of this book from Viz Media。 Another horrific and terrifying book of short stories by Ito。 The self-titled short Tombs was my favorite, but every story was unique and had so much depth in its own fractured way。 The art makes my skin crawl。 Read at your own risk。

3。5 But honestly another win for Junji Ito, his horrors are so satisfyingly contained to me like 'glad im not living in that town' or like 'glad humanity accepted this divine inexplicable punishment as normal and are going about their daily lives', something about it always leaves me satisfied as a reader。 I felt that shorter stories didn't manage the staying power that the longer ones achieved so I already can't remember them, but I enjoyed the whole collection while reading。 Floaters and Stran 3。5 But honestly another win for Junji Ito, his horrors are so satisfyingly contained to me like 'glad im not living in that town' or like 'glad humanity accepted this divine inexplicable punishment as normal and are going about their daily lives', something about it always leaves me satisfied as a reader。 I felt that shorter stories didn't manage the staying power that the longer ones achieved so I already can't remember them, but I enjoyed the whole collection while reading。 Floaters and Strange Tale of the Tunnel were stand outs for me。Thanks to NetGalley for the arc! 。。。more
