The wise and gloriously big-hearted debut novel from the much-loved broadcaster, Sara Cox

Becky: a single mum who prides herself on her independence。 She knows from experience that men are trouble。
Louise: a loving husband, gorgeous kids。 She ought to feel more grateful。
Jameela: all she's ever done is work hard, and try her best。 Why won't life give her the one thing she wants?
Sheila: the nest is empty, she dreams of escaping to the sun, but her husband seems so distracted。

The inhabitants of the Inventor's Housing Estate keep themselves to themselves。 There are the friendly 'Hellos' when commutes coincide and the odd cheeky eye roll when the wine bottles clank in number 7's wheelie bin, but it's not exactly Ramsay Street。

The dilapidated community centre is no longer the beating heart of the estate that Becky remembers from her childhood。 So the new pottery class she's helped set up feels like a fresh start。 And not just for her。

The assorted neighbours come together to try out a new skill, under the watchful eye of their charismatic teacher, Sasha。 And as the soft unremarkable lumps of clay are hesitantly, lovingly moulded into delicate vases and majestic pots, so too are the lives of four women。 Concealed passions and heartaches are uncovered, relationships shattered and formed, and the possibility for transformation is revealed。

I really like Becky’s story most。 I enjoyed the way each individual linked together however found it confusing flicking between the individuals。 Trying to remember the storyline as I went through。 Gripping tales of three women。 Funny and light hearted and easy to read

Suitable as a holiday read on the beach。 Characters believable。 Decent story。

I enjoyed this as a lighthearted read, I loved the characters, and their individual stories were great, just a little rushed towards the end。

I love Sara Cox but I struggled with this。 The timeline is squiffy, all of the women, aside Becky, have the exact same “problem” - men they think are being unfaithful。 Sheila is horrible and the story with Jameela is never finished off。 It felt like it tried to do too much and missed the mark for me。 A beach read, perhaps。

Nice little readRead through in one day as nice shortish chapters which moved the book along for each of the characters。 Nothing outstanding but enjoyed nonetheless; 4 stars for entertainment value

A good-feel book with likeable and relatable characters whose stories fit together nicely as part of the overall plot。 Disappointingly the plot isn’t at all suspenseful and for the most part very predictable with very basic character development。

It’s not a bad books, it’s just not a great story

4 women and one pottery class。 Each woman has their own relationship troubles and a new pottery class at the local community centre is a catalyst for change。 This is a book about community, friendship and the power of those to change lives。 This is an easy feel good read。 Each woman has an interesting story but because the story is split between four main protagonists, I never really felt that invested in any of them。 It is a promising premise but for me didn’t really deliver。

Clever title。 I felt some of the stories and language were outdated, but it was enjoyable overall。

I can't say much more than others above。Flat characters all written in the same style, so they blend together。No real plot。 All characters have men issues and a lot of the book felt like previous repitition of their story line before then adding to it。I was bored throughout。。。 Glad it ended。If you're looking for a stronger read with the above points then maybe read "little lies" I can't say much more than others above。Flat characters all written in the same style, so they blend together。No real plot。 All characters have men issues and a lot of the book felt like previous repitition of their story line before then adding to it。I was bored throughout。。。 Glad it ended。If you're looking for a stronger read with the above points then maybe read "little lies" 。。。more

I received an ARC of this book via netgalley and am grateful for the opportunity to read this debut novel。 I liked the setting of the pottery class on Inventors estate and the hints of humour which peppered the narrative。 The cast of characters was varied if a little one dimensional。 The author has created a scenario of unease for most of the characters which engage the reader but those scenarios are solved a little too easily。 I felt like it needed another, deeper level to the story telling。 It I received an ARC of this book via netgalley and am grateful for the opportunity to read this debut novel。 I liked the setting of the pottery class on Inventors estate and the hints of humour which peppered the narrative。 The cast of characters was varied if a little one dimensional。 The author has created a scenario of unease for most of the characters which engage the reader but those scenarios are solved a little too easily。 I felt like it needed another, deeper level to the story telling。 It is a good if not brilliant debut and I expect the author will be worth watching in the future。 。。。more

surprisingly unputdownableLoved this book from the beginning to the end。 It has been the most perfect holiday read。 Sara has surpassed herself。 Would highly recommend。

Really enjoyed this。It is not heavyweight, great literature but it is a ripping yarn about real people and is told with love and pithy wit。 You can hear the Yorkshire lilt in every description, and quickly connect with all the main characters。A great holiday or train journey read。

“ ‘The only good thing about this whole drama,’ said Jameela, ‘is I found the perfect peephole bra - I’ll take this please,’ and she held out a lacy bra to the shop lady。 The woman seemed to soften behind the fringe - she clearly didn’t want this poor woman’s birthday to be derailed any more than it already had been。 Shelia clocked the price tag on the bra; no wonder she was smiling - £79。99 for a bra, and one that didn’t even keep your nipples warm at that!”

Carla Bloomfield

It was a really nice read, but I was a little disappointed as I expected more humour and laugh out loud moments。

An easy read and acceptable for a celeb debut novel。 Wouldn't really recommend unless you feel like you need more pottery-based stories in your life。 An easy read and acceptable for a celeb debut novel。 Wouldn't really recommend unless you feel like you need more pottery-based stories in your life。 。。。more

Written well with believable characters。 I loved the British earthy expressions that I've never heard before as an American。 lol。 Speaking of earthy, as a potter who met 3 of my lifelong friends in a pottery class I would say that art may very well imitate life。 I think thanks to Kate Malone's input, the descriptions during class were right on。Even if you're not a potter, this book will hold your interest。 Written well with believable characters。 I loved the British earthy expressions that I've never heard before as an American。 lol。 Speaking of earthy, as a potter who met 3 of my lifelong friends in a pottery class I would say that art may very well imitate life。 I think thanks to Kate Malone's input, the descriptions during class were right on。Even if you're not a potter, this book will hold your interest。 。。。more

This was ok- I liked the characters but there were a lot of them, all with very dramatic tales- a whole book could be written about each of them!

Becca Romans

This book was incredible! Each story line was beautifully wrapped up in the end。 It made me cry and laugh and hold my breath at moments。 I can’t wait to read more from Sara Cox。
