Fantastic book! Really loved it。 Just so clever and twisty。 I didn’t like the very last sentence of the book, but other than that it was amazing。

Uhm I was team this till the end where we went full Stockholm love story so bye。I usually really like Paris and her stories but yikes。 Not this one。

This book grabs you from the very first page and doesn’t let go until the end。 To say it is excellent would be an understatement!!! So many twists and turns, you almost have whiplash! I obviously highly recommend it!!!

Another good book by B。 A。 Paris。

I have read all of B A Paris and this was my lease favorite book。 The whole plot was confusing and I do not recommend this book。 I really was let down。 As I said before I have read all of her previous books but this book does not feel like it was written by the same author。 What a let down。

Many thanks to NetGalley and St。 Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest review。I was first introduced to B。A。 Paris with “Behind Closed Doors” which blew my mind and I loved every second。 Then I picked up “The Breakdown” and it was really close to as much as I liked Behind Closed Doors…。I know this woman is capable of really REALLY amazing writing。Unfortunately this one feels a little one-noted to me and I’m starting to think of it similarly as I did with The Therapist, 3。5 stars Many thanks to NetGalley and St。 Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest review。I was first introduced to B。A。 Paris with “Behind Closed Doors” which blew my mind and I loved every second。 Then I picked up “The Breakdown” and it was really close to as much as I liked Behind Closed Doors…。I know this woman is capable of really REALLY amazing writing。Unfortunately this one feels a little one-noted to me and I’m starting to think of it similarly as I did with The Therapist, 3。5 stars rounded up for Goodreads。 The characters needed developed a bit further, as I was left with a lot of questions moving through the plot and storyline。 I’m not going to give up on the author, but I hope that she can find a tone and pace with future works as she did with her earlier ones。 。。。more

When I read the reviews for this book they were split down the middle on if this was going to be a "great" book or a "DNF"。 There wasn't much of a review that was in the middle。 My review is a bit in the middle。 I enjoyed it and it was a psychological thriller that peaked my interest。 Some readers found that the jumping between past and present was confusing but I did not mind this and to me I was able to pick up right where it left off because of the shorter chapters。 The main character was als When I read the reviews for this book they were split down the middle on if this was going to be a "great" book or a "DNF"。 There wasn't much of a review that was in the middle。 My review is a bit in the middle。 I enjoyed it and it was a psychological thriller that peaked my interest。 Some readers found that the jumping between past and present was confusing but I did not mind this and to me I was able to pick up right where it left off because of the shorter chapters。 The main character was also portrayed as being a bit annoying but I was able to get through those "woe as me" portions and the character grew on me during Part II。 There were some lulls but if you can make it til the end you will find that it was all worth it and wraps together nicely!!SPOILER***I have to agree with a lot of the other reviews that the main character, Amelia, was VERY predictable in the beginning。 Her time being "kept" was boring and I understand that is mainly because we needed to set up a backstory but I wish there was more。 BUT after finishing the book I do realize that there wasn't more because was she really "held as a prisoner"? She seemed to be more like collateral damage to me。 We didn't need to have an eventful prison because it was to be portrayed differently because Ned was the main reason for the kidnapping and revenge。 I did enjoy the mental health aspect at the end。 Even though she was more collateral damage she was being used and mentally that took such a toll on her。 I enjoyed that Hunter finally got to see that although I do wish I found more remorse or guilt from him but maybe the ending about seeing him "maybe" and him being locked away showed the reader that he was in fact remorseful。 I also enjoyed the interest between these two characters and that it was left open ended between the two of them。 Amelia deserves something to go well in her life after everything。Even though the beginning was a little uneventful I did find that it built up into a HUGE ending that was unexpected but supported throughout。 At times because it was so eventful I got lost and had to reread passages to make sure that I understood。 Also the house and money left to Amelia seemed almost too good to be true and because of that as a reader it really tugged on the heart strings that all of this could have been prevented but then again Ned still would have been out there harming others if that were the case。 I really enjoyed that this book played on those emotions, that what is the lesser of the two evils notion。 。。。more

B。A。 Paris has become a hit or miss in my experience。 As of this review, I have read all previous releases, with the exception, of "The Therapist"。 "The Breakdown" and "The Dilemma" are stories I enjoyed with the latter being my favorite。 This new release, "The Prisoner", started compellingly and certainly had the potential to be one of hers I did enjoy。 Unfortunately, this spiraled out of reach for me。 The plot becomes increasingly depressing, with no silver lining。 Throw a dog a bone, please! A bit disappointing after reading "Behind Closed Doors", also by B。A。 Paris。 I was engaged for Part 1 and became uninterested during Part 2。 I guess this type of storyline is not for me。 A bit disappointing after reading "Behind Closed Doors", also by B。A。 Paris。 I was engaged for Part 1 and became uninterested during Part 2。 I guess this type of storyline is not for me。 。。。more

Second book I have read from Ms。 Paris and my favorite so far。 Better then "Behind Closed Doors" and for me more believable。 The plot involves a kept woman with a rotten husband。 Very quick read and has good pacing between the present and the past that led to the present。 Good stuff。 Second book I have read from Ms。 Paris and my favorite so far。 Better then "Behind Closed Doors" and for me more believable。 The plot involves a kept woman with a rotten husband。 Very quick read and has good pacing between the present and the past that led to the present。 Good stuff。 。。。more

The pace or the writing or the flow of the book was off。 It didn't gel together and I never really cared for any of the characters。 Everyone Amelie knows and loves dies and I didn't feel that emotional connection to any of that。 It didn't pull any emotion out of me at all and felt like it too a while to actually get to the point (her endless days in a pitch black room isn't very exciting day after day and neither is her journey to find her kidnappers)。 Additionally, their whole reason for kidnap The pace or the writing or the flow of the book was off。 It didn't gel together and I never really cared for any of the characters。 Everyone Amelie knows and loves dies and I didn't feel that emotional connection to any of that。 It didn't pull any emotion out of me at all and felt like it too a while to actually get to the point (her endless days in a pitch black room isn't very exciting day after day and neither is her journey to find her kidnappers)。 Additionally, their whole reason for kidnapping and torturing her never made much sense and the ending (Stockholm syndrome??) is just so aggravating。 However, I did enjoy reading a thriller that wasn't too gory or disturbing。 It was an easy read and had the potential to be interesting。 I would like to read other books by her。 。。。more
