Summary

Nothing is ever as it seems, especially when Fair Ones are involved。

In a land that harbours two realms, magical creatures and dangerous games are a way of life and death for the travelling Fianna clans。 It is an honour to visit Tír na nÓg, even if the price is pretending Fair Ones don’t hunt humans for sport。
Ireland native Aisling never imagined she’d be alone, living a double life。 But when your family shares the ability to see through Fae glamour, keeping secrets isn’t something you do for fun。 You do it to stay alive。

A murder leaves Aisling motherless, thrusting her into the position of matriarch in a world she thought she’d never return to。 Teaming up with an unlikely band of allies for a competition steeped in peril, she can’t resist the distraction warrior Setanta offers。 Brooding, gorgeous and impossibly strong, he gives her a chance to be something she never could before—herself。

Bonded by troubled pasts and deadly circumstances, the team of misfits must face damaging truths as they try to stop their worlds from colliding。

Mystery meets Irish folklore。  I loved this debut novel。  The characters are well drawn and the use of Irish folklore was done with a deft hand。  You cared a lot about the character as they were introduced。  Aisling Breen steps into her birthright with all the self consciousness that comes with being thrust into a position too young but grows into her position with power and grace。  It's worth the wait when they finally get to the land of the fae and the mysterious and tragic deaths are revealed Mystery meets Irish folklore。  I loved this debut novel。  The characters are well drawn and the use of Irish folklore was done with a deft hand。  You cared a lot about the character as they were introduced。  Aisling Breen steps into her birthright with all the self consciousness that comes with being thrust into a position too young but grows into her position with power and grace。  It's worth the wait when they finally get to the land of the fae and the mysterious and tragic deaths are revealed to be the work of someone you never suspected。  It leaves you with a cliffhanger that makes me want the next book to come out tomorrow! 。。。more

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it through 'Realm of Lore and Lies'。 The story seems very intriguing and I might give it another shot in the future but I had to stop halfway through。。。 Personally, I felt that there were too many POVs very early on in the story, and I didn't have time to ground myself。 Especially considering that each POV had its own set of information。 I just don't think I have the attention span for it。 As a result, I ended up being confused and couldn't focus on the world itsel Unfortunately, I couldn't make it through 'Realm of Lore and Lies'。 The story seems very intriguing and I might give it another shot in the future but I had to stop halfway through。。。 Personally, I felt that there were too many POVs very early on in the story, and I didn't have time to ground myself。 Especially considering that each POV had its own set of information。 I just don't think I have the attention span for it。 As a result, I ended up being confused and couldn't focus on the world itself。 。。。more

I throughly enjoyed this book! Claire has clearly done her research on Irish mythology and wove it into a fantastic story。 I really liked the characters and premise of the story and I *love* the emphasis on women leaders。 However, at times, there was some pacing issues and I would've liked a bit more world building。 Even though, I cannot wait for the next book to come out, I need to know what happens next! 2。5 🌟 I cannot express the relief I feel after FINALLY finishing this book。 I started reading it in September on NetGalley, and at first I loved it。 Then we got into another point of view, then another one, and so forth。 This book had tremendous potential, but just missed the mark for me。 To be frank, it was a mess。Ash leaves her clan to live in the human world and is doing just fine until *no spoilers* something happens that causes her to return to her clan。 She returns as matriarch of her clan 2。5 🌟 I cannot express the relief I feel after FINALLY finishing this book。 I started reading it in September on NetGalley, and at first I loved it。 Then we got into another point of view, then another one, and so forth。 This book had tremendous potential, but just missed the mark for me。 To be frank, it was a mess。Ash leaves her clan to live in the human world and is doing just fine until *no spoilers* something happens that causes her to return to her clan。 She returns as matriarch of her clan and enrolls them in The Cath- a competition to decide the next High King's guard。Here's where things start to decline。 Did the Cath actually happen yet? As far as I could tell they weren't participating in it yet by the end of the book。 They received a side quest from the current high king and they went off to do that and while they did that they found out who had been killing people along the way。 Oh yeah, and some of them have powers。 That's important for the next book。It's obvious that there was a lot of research that went into this book, but we didn't get the world building that we could have。 There are a lot of loose ends (which can be tied up in the next book!), so I would hope to see the next book flesh out characters more and really edit edit edit because it just dragged。 There wasn't enough action, and when there was it just didn't end。 Everything happens in the last 30 pages, and it was probably 25% longer than necessary。 If you've read this book, what did you think? I have mixed feelings because I was SO excited in the beginning。 Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this digital ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review, this title is available now。 。。。more

ARC from NetGalley3。75 starsThe ages in this book read really weird to me。 I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Ash is living with her foster parents and acting/being treated as if she is 16。 There was never a point where she felt like an adult to me。 Because of that, no one else really felt like an adult to me。 Conor seemed like he was 12 one minute and 20 the next。 It felt to me like there was too much time spent establishing each character。 When you have 4 character perspectives, ARC from NetGalley3。75 starsThe ages in this book read really weird to me。 I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Ash is living with her foster parents and acting/being treated as if she is 16。 There was never a point where she felt like an adult to me。 Because of that, no one else really felt like an adult to me。 Conor seemed like he was 12 one minute and 20 the next。 It felt to me like there was too much time spent establishing each character。 When you have 4 character perspectives, it's a bit much right at the beginning。 We have 4 chapters with Aisling and then start shifting perspectives, but after 4 chapters you're a teensy bit invested, and switching perspectives to 3 new characters at this point started to make my attention drift。 The characters were also quite flat。 The only ones who stood out to me as memorable were Tiernan and Maebh。 Ash is just bland porridge。 Set was semi interesting but not enough。 Conor was deeply traumatized but I could not with his fucking goth kid misery。 He came across as petulant。 There were too many times that I wondered why the characters did not do something that they should have obviously done。 Questions were not asked。 Truths were not told。 And it was nonsensical to me and frustrating to read。 The setting was lovely。 It's obvious that Claire Wright loves her country。 The lore was very interesting, and I actually think that the plot of the book is good in its bones, but it was long and meandering, and trudging through all those perspectives really slowed things down and made it drag。 Still, it was a relatively enjoyable read, and I would be interested in reading the next one。 The author's skill seemed to improve a bit as I read, with the first quarter and last quarter feeling quite different to me, and I'm sure it will continue to improve with each book。 。。。more

You can tell the author has done so much research and had a real passion for her culture。 I feel like this book had so much potential with the plot and all the lore but was let down by the pacing and bland characters 。。。more

DNF'ed。 I decided to DNF this book after realizing that this wasn't made for me。 I thought the plot had a lot of potential but unfortunately didn't click with the writing and the fact that this was fantasy set in a modern world。 I kind of have this image where fantasy books have to be set set in a time of history or in a place where phones and all other kinds of modern technology and objects don't exist。 I also found the beginning extremely slow and a bit confusing。 Thank you to NetGalley and th DNF'ed。 I decided to DNF this book after realizing that this wasn't made for me。 I thought the plot had a lot of potential but unfortunately didn't click with the writing and the fact that this was fantasy set in a modern world。 I kind of have this image where fantasy books have to be set set in a time of history or in a place where phones and all other kinds of modern technology and objects don't exist。 I also found the beginning extremely slow and a bit confusing。 Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

EnjoyableReading this book, it is obvious that the author really has a love for Irish mythology。 However I found it was such a slow starter for me, and then around the 60% mark something happened, and then nothing。 It just never really took off, which is a shame。 Saying that I will read the other books in the series as I loved reading about Tír na nÓg and Newgrange。

I enjoyed the story but the pacing was a bit much for me。 The characters were also very interesting but I feel like they could have been developed further。 There wasn't much depth once you tried to delve beneath the surface level。 I'm also not a fan of the insta-love trope, I find it unrealistic and I love it when a couple gets to develop their relationship throughout the story。 I enjoyed the story but the pacing was a bit much for me。 The characters were also very interesting but I feel like they could have been developed further。 There wasn't much depth once you tried to delve beneath the surface level。 I'm also not a fan of the insta-love trope, I find it unrealistic and I love it when a couple gets to develop their relationship throughout the story。 。。。more

So, when things just didn't seem to be making a forward movement despite the plot being intriguing, I started to slow down and read other books mingled in between, I liked the main character, the gray lines of her life in the Fianna community, the long lost brother who keeps in touch, the mystery of loved ones disappearing, the other mystery of a murdered mother, the sudden weight of being thrown into a position of authority, the mix of Irish lore (Tír na nóg is wildly under explained) & the tangled/dangerous mix of the Fair Ones。 ALL GOOD!!!! Yet the dialog was dry and the Ash as a character doesn't seem to know herself at all。 I constantly found myself with brows pulls tight when it came to her flip-flopping actions。 Also。。。what was with the power to read people? I thought it was a rarity。 Moving forward, which was exactly my motto even past the halfway point。 I wanted some more movement with solving the mysteries and getting some answers。 I will say that in a weird, round about way of getting there, I DID enjoy this book by the end。 I found myself rallying behind the relationships formed by the characters and the brilliant backdrop of the Irish/fae world。 I even thought the whole loving a man despite his beastly side was very "Beauty & the Beast" esk, and sweet。 I am giving this a 3 star rating, but its more like a 3。6 on the book-o-meter!!! If you like all the elements I listed above, then I recommend you give this book a try and see for yourself。 。。。more

I want to thank Netgalley and the author Claire Wright for this ARC。 This is my honest opinionThe first important point to know about this book is that we alternate between four different points of view。I often have trouble with books from different points of view but I find that the author has managed very well the moments of transitions between the characters。Concerning the story, this first volume is a large volume of introductions to the universe that the author created。 I had a little troub I want to thank Netgalley and the author Claire Wright for this ARC。 This is my honest opinionThe first important point to know about this book is that we alternate between four different points of view。I often have trouble with books from different points of view but I find that the author has managed very well the moments of transitions between the characters。Concerning the story, this first volume is a large volume of introductions to the universe that the author created。 I had a little trouble with the rhythm which often goes slow because there are a lot of details and stories to explain。 The endearing characters make us want to continue to read despite this lack of action that there may be at certain moments, and fortunately towards the end of the book something finally happens, which precipitates the story (as well as the romance between the characters!) I also appreciated very much that there is no notion of a love triangle at all, future couples are defined very quickly and I am happy about it。I still recommend this book despite that I took some time to read it because I really think that volume 2 has a huge potential now that a big part of the story and the characters have been posed and that the action can really start。I greatly appreciated the different characters of the characters who swing perfectly well, ash is very serious, and rather withdrawn while mae uses humor as a weapon of defense and is not afraid of anything。 Set ( my dear Set I adore you) the tortured soul of history that breaks our hearts with its story but deserves so much better。 As for our dear geek friend, aaaaaah that horrible end。 I say no more, read the book, and suffer with me for that ending。 。。。more
