Summary

From the #1 New York Times best-selling author of The Darkest Minds comes a sweepingly ambitious, high-octane tale of power, destiny, love and redemption。

Every seven years, the Agon begins。 As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality。
Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family's sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt's promises of eternal glory。 For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man--now a god--responsible for their deaths。

Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods。

The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and, at last, a way for Lore to leave the Agon behind forever。 But Lore's decision to bind her fate to Athena's and rejoin the hunt will come at a deadly cost--and still may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees。

I’ve always been a fan of Alexandra Brackens books and I adore Greek mythology so I was so excited to read this book。 It’s quite an investment of time but I loved reading it!It took me a few chapters to get into the swing of things。 Once you get used to the structure of the story and the set up of the plot, it gets a bit easier to follow from there。 At first, I was a bit confused with who was who, the families and the concept of the Agon, but I stuck with it and as I continued to read I started I’ve always been a fan of Alexandra Brackens books and I adore Greek mythology so I was so excited to read this book。 It’s quite an investment of time but I loved reading it!It took me a few chapters to get into the swing of things。 Once you get used to the structure of the story and the set up of the plot, it gets a bit easier to follow from there。 At first, I was a bit confused with who was who, the families and the concept of the Agon, but I stuck with it and as I continued to read I started to understand it more and more。 I loved the characters in this and I loved the character of Lore。 The whole book was compelling and entertaining, with the odd plot twist to keep you on your toes。 There’s a magical quality about it and I always found I was excited to go back to read this book whenever I was dragged away from reading。 I’m so glad I picked this one up and gave it a read。 。。。more

I enjoyed the overall plot of this book, and the Greek mythology as always。 However at times it felt maybe a bit too repetitive and confusing with the house names and the gods associated with them and the mortal names and we god names and everything。 Still enjoyed the book but think it could’ve been made less complicated at times or explained better sometimes。 Overall I’d give it like a 3。5 stars

A little more than 1/4 of the way though, and I'm going to have to put this to the side。 It's just BAD。 The plot is convoluted and the characters are paper thin and brainless。 It feels like someone who got a C+ in Greek Mythology 101 tried to write a bad Hunger Games type fanfiction。 A little more than 1/4 of the way though, and I'm going to have to put this to the side。 It's just BAD。 The plot is convoluted and the characters are paper thin and brainless。 It feels like someone who got a C+ in Greek Mythology 101 tried to write a bad Hunger Games type fanfiction。 。。。more

I absolutely loved this book! It was a great mix between mythology, suspense, and action! It kept me guessing until the last page! Definitely recommend

Recently described to me as Percy Jackson and Hunger Games combined。 Yep。 That about sums it up。Teacher notes:No sex。 No cussing。 Violence is appropriate for the plot。

3 ⭐An action-packed and entertaining read。 Not knowing a lot about Greek mythology made the number of characters, Gods, and houses difficult to follow at times。 I could tell the author tried to overcome this with a lot of explanations between characters, but it just ended up being large sections of info-dumping。 It was still a fun read, but not as good as I had hoped。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Este libro tiene todo lo necesario para que me guste。 Mitología griega, fantasía urbana, buenos personajes, mujeres fuertes。。。 Y evidentemente me ha encantado。 Creo que es el primer libro que leo de la autora y lo cierto es que me ha gustado mucho su pluma y el ritmo de la historia。 Se para a detallar, cosa que me encanta en los libros, pero sin llegar a resultar repetitivo。 Lore me ha parecido un personaje de 10。 Comete fallos y aciertos, es fuerte, y lucha por superar sus traumas。 Se ve cierta Este libro tiene todo lo necesario para que me guste。 Mitología griega, fantasía urbana, buenos personajes, mujeres fuertes。。。 Y evidentemente me ha encantado。 Creo que es el primer libro que leo de la autora y lo cierto es que me ha gustado mucho su pluma y el ritmo de la historia。 Se para a detallar, cosa que me encanta en los libros, pero sin llegar a resultar repetitivo。 Lore me ha parecido un personaje de 10。 Comete fallos y aciertos, es fuerte, y lucha por superar sus traumas。 Se ve cierta evolución en ella。 Cástor es otro personaje que me ha gustado mucho。 Es diferente al prototipo de personaje masculino al que los libros de fantasía nos tiene acostumbrados。 Cástor es dulce, se preocupa por todo y es, en general, un encanto。 Van y Miles。。。 En fin, sin palabras, les amo mucho。 Y luego los dioses。 Atenea me ha gustado, especialmente en esos momentos en los que parecía sincerarse con Lore。 Cuando habla sobre Medusa y que su intención fue darle más poder, cuando habla del poder y de su fuerza。 Creo que en el fondo, sí estaba siendo sincera。 Aunque deja de caerme bien cuando recuerdo lo que le hizo a la familia de Lore。 Hermes, o Gil, es otro gran personaje。 Tal vez Lore lo viera como que el solo quería la egida, pero en mi opinión, si quiso a Lore。 Y la protegió y la cuidó, y también a Miles。 Si no le pongo las cinco estrellas es porque han quedado ciertos asuntos que me habría gustado que se aclarasen。 Cómo por ejemplo, la voz que escucha Lore y que yo me he empeñado en que es la de Medusa。 También hablando de Medusa, me habría gustado algo más sobre ella。 Y sabes a dónde van los dioses que murieron en el agón。 Pero bueno, por lo demás, súper recomendación。 。。。more

4。5 stars。 I almost didn’t even finish。 I read the first 2 chapters and got bored back in February and I picked it back up again this month and did not regret it。 The only reason I didn’t give a full 5 stars is due to some confusion with names switching around for the same character and some confusion with the writing style sometimes。 But overall the plot and characters were beautiful and I miss the characters already

Three stars is really generous considering how lame this book was… the way it was written was over ambitious and very rushed。 It felt like I was reading the skeleton of a book where all the ideas were thrown together and no actual content was presented。 Sure, I like a strong female lead and I love Greek gods。 The concept that I got from the initial summary made it seem interesting, but the delivery of the storyline was very poor in my opinion。 I probably would have recommended the book if there Three stars is really generous considering how lame this book was… the way it was written was over ambitious and very rushed。 It felt like I was reading the skeleton of a book where all the ideas were thrown together and no actual content was presented。 Sure, I like a strong female lead and I love Greek gods。 The concept that I got from the initial summary made it seem interesting, but the delivery of the storyline was very poor in my opinion。 I probably would have recommended the book if there was a series instead of many ideas stuffed into one storyline。 。。。more

The plot twists, the betrayals! This book was brilliant although confusing at times。 I loved all the Greek myths it contained and all the plotting, strategising and romance。 The ending leaves a few loose ends but it was still a wonderful ending。

Think a little bit of Hunger Games vibes with the Greek Gods and you have this book。 Great characters and something I quite happily could've read into a second book and beyond。 Think a little bit of Hunger Games vibes with the Greek Gods and you have this book。 Great characters and something I quite happily could've read into a second book and beyond。 。。。more

I really liked the characters in this story alot of action and fast paced。 What I enjoyed most that this was a standalone novel and I was invested in the plot and the journey of the characters。

**DNF AT 33%**God, I tried so hard to get through this book。 I really did。 But with all the effort I put in, I have better things to read, and at the end of the day this book was just not doing it for me。Literally the only thing—and I mean the only thing—saving this book from a one-star review is its worldbuilding。 The whole concept of the descendants of Greek heroes in powerful families participating in a challenge to kill Greek gods at a chance of godliness truly is very enticing。 In fact, the **DNF AT 33%**God, I tried so hard to get through this book。 I really did。 But with all the effort I put in, I have better things to read, and at the end of the day this book was just not doing it for me。Literally the only thing—and I mean the only thing—saving this book from a one-star review is its worldbuilding。 The whole concept of the descendants of Greek heroes in powerful families participating in a challenge to kill Greek gods at a chance of godliness truly is very enticing。 In fact, the only parts of the book where I was actually interested were where they talked about the world and the lore and the ago and everything surrounding it。 So, the world? Fantastic。 The story? Not so much。I hardly even know where to begin with it。 I've made it no secret that I'm a very character-driven reader (with Scythe being the only possible exception, but that's neither here nor there) and these characters did not exactly feed that need。 Lore's main personality traits were being sad about her backstory and dropping quippy remarks, and Castor's main personality traits were being a love interest, having a sad backstory, and hating being a God。 On paper, these sound like very interesting things, but when put into play that's all。 There was。 To。 His。 Character。 Between the two of them, it was a nightmare。 Every scene that wasn't spent talking about the world was spent boring me to tears as I was forced to watch Lore do anything or her and Castor lust over each other。 The only characters I possibly liked were Van and Miles, but I couldn't even enjoy them because of another aspect I deeply despised。 The pacing。Now, I don't necessarily mind when a story goes slow, as long as what's going on interests me。 And I swear to god, this did not interest me in the least。 Every agonizingly-slow moment was spent plotting or following Lore or doing some kind of action scene, and I swear to God it was just so, so painful to read。 Honest to God, I did not think I could get through one more page of it。While this book may please other people, it is almost certainly not for me, and I would actually rather shoot myself in the foot than read another page。 。。。more

Y más por esos personajes que, a pesar de estar rodeados de monstruos y maldiciones, nunca pierden su humanidad。 Qué argumento tan bien ideado, qué mundo y qué recreaciones 👌🏼💖。 。。。more
