Summary

Author Adrienne Young returns to the world of The Narrows with Saint, a prequel to Fable and Namesake

As a boy, Elias learned the hard way what happens when you don’t heed the old tales。

Nine years after his lack of superstition got his father killed, he’s grown into a young man of piety, with a deep reverence for the hallowed sea and her fickle favor。 As stories of the fisherman’s son who has managed to escape the most deadly of storms spreads from port to port, his devotion to the myths and creeds has given him the reputation of the luckiest bastard to sail the Narrows。

Now, he’s mere days away from getting everything his father ever dreamed for him: a ship of his own, a crew, and a license that names him as one of the first Narrows-born traders。 But when a young dredger from the Unnamed Sea with more than one secret crosses his path, Elias’ faith will be tested like never before。 The greater the pull he feels toward her, the farther he drifts from the things he’s spent the last three years working for。

He is dangerously close to repeating his mistakes and he’s seen first hand how vicious the jealous sea can be。 If he’s going to survive her retribution, he will have to decide which he wants more, the love of the girl who could change their shifting world, or the sacred beliefs that earned him the name that he’s known for―Saint。

5 ⭐️ I love The NarrowsThis world feels like home。 I started reading Saint and something just clicked。 I was at peace and felt like I was where I belonged。 And I haven’t felt that from a book in a long time。 Adrienne Young thank you so much for showing us more of Saint and Isolde。 And thank you for creating one of my favorite fictional worlds of all time。 Thank you for creating a place that for some reason I feel oh so welcome in。 🌊⚓️🪸🏴‍☠️💎💕

As someone who was not a huge fan of the Fable duology(I know I’m in the minority), I did not have high expectations for this book。 I really liked it though! I think I should give Fable another chance。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Adrienne Young has been one of my favorite authors this year, and her stories never disappoint。 I loved the world and characters she introduced in Fable, so Saint felt like a deep dive into how it all began。 Seeing Saint before he became the most ruthless trader in the Narrows was exciting; he reminded me of West's character -- dangerous, hardheaded, and ambitious but would do anything for those he loved (like giving up a brand new ship for a girl he met two weeks ago?!) I really enjoyed the juxtaposition of the perspectives between Isolde and Saint, seeing their world differently based on their experiences yet sharing a similar goal in the end made it feel like their story, not just his。 I'll be honest though, I had hoped the epilogue would have been the sinking of the Lark, just to know what really happened in that storm and how Saint felt when he lost everything all over again, but I was satisfied with the ending she chose。 I was surprised at how many typos I found; with a story like this it creates too much disconnect while reading and pulls the reader out of the story, which is kind of the only reason this book didn't get five stars。 。。。more

I still don't know how I feel about this novel。 There were about 100 pages in the middle of the book that held my attention and made me want to keep reading, but the rest of the time the story fell flat。I usually really like Adrienne Young's writing, but I feel like, at this point, she's putting her sentences through formulas she created while writing Sky。 And it's getting a little old。 When the metaphors don't make sense, try something else。My favorite part of the whole book was the bromance be I still don't know how I feel about this novel。 There were about 100 pages in the middle of the book that held my attention and made me want to keep reading, but the rest of the time the story fell flat。I usually really like Adrienne Young's writing, but I feel like, at this point, she's putting her sentences through formulas she created while writing Sky。 And it's getting a little old。 When the metaphors don't make sense, try something else。My favorite part of the whole book was the bromance between Saint and Clove。 I think I wouldn't have minded if it was just the two of them wreaking havoc in The Narrows the entire time--Isolde? Isolde who? I've seen a lot of people obsessed with the last line of this book, but, quite frankly, I hated it。 It made me really sad, and not in a good way。 。。。more

Adrienne Young is simply the best writer of our generation。 Her writing is BEYOND beautiful。 Saint is even better than the Fable series, if that’s even possible。 I hope she continues to write more in this world!! 🌊⚓️

Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for providing an arc for an honest review。Adrienne Young does it again! I am obsessed! I loved the Fable duology and when I heard Saint was getting a book I was beyond excited! And oh my goodness did it deliver! The narrators were amazing and brought all of the characters to life, not just Isolde and Saint。 You get a better idea of who Saint was before the events of the Fable duology and boy does it just crack open your chest and snatch your heart。 I loved Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for providing an arc for an honest review。Adrienne Young does it again! I will be recommending this to everyone! 。。。more

You say pirates, I say OKAY。 I really love this world and I’m so happy Adrienne Young decided to give us Saint’s story, especially after the end of Namesake! This was a great glimpse into Saint’s early years, though I wish it had been a little longer to allow some things to develop more。

3。5 starsThis was good! I really enjoyed following Saint & Isolde’s origin story。 I read this super quickly; it was a short but satisfying read。 I did feel that their relationship didn’t seem super well-developed because the book is on the shorter side。

Saint。 Oh, Saint。 What a great prequel to Fable。 This just took me on an adventure I didn’t want to get off。 Saint follows the story of Fable’s parents long before she was born。 Nine years after his father was killed, Elias (Saint) sails the tempestuous seas with his navigator and close friend Clove。 Days before he’s set to received everything he’s worked for, he encountered a young dredger runaway from the Unnamed Seas。 He’s drawn to her in more ways than one but the secrets she harbors will do Saint。 Oh, Saint。 What a great prequel to Fable。 This just took me on an adventure I didn’t want to get off。 Saint follows the story of Fable’s parents long before she was born。 Nine years after his father was killed, Elias (Saint) sails the tempestuous seas with his navigator and close friend Clove。 Days before he’s set to received everything he’s worked for, he encountered a young dredger runaway from the Unnamed Seas。 He’s drawn to her in more ways than one but the secrets she harbors will doom him forever。 He will have to decide if he wants the woman he’s fallen for or the sacred beliefs that earned him the name of Saint。 My stomach was in actual knots reading this。 I’ve never read such a compelling scene as the one during the storm。 I don’t know how Adrienne Young writes these incredible swashbuckling moments of adventure and pure terror that have you holding on the edge with every second。 Isolde reminded me so much of Fable and it was so interesting seeing characters and places from the original duology。 I loved Saint。 It’s so hard to reconcile the man from this book with the one in Fable but I really enjoyed every minute of this book。 What a great book。 4。5⭐️- maybe 5⭐️ depending on how much it sticks with me the next couple weeks。 Pirate books are some of the best adventure books out there。 。。。more

What can I say? I've been hooked on the stories of The Narrows since reading Fable and this is one that I was highly anticipating。 And it didn't disappoint。 Honestly it left me wanting even more。 This story follows a young Saint as he meets Isolde and their love story begins to unfold。 But it's not just a love story, it's not even mostly a love story。 It's a tale of Saint coming up in the world, of the rise of The Narrows, of the brotherhood between Saint and Clove, of the politics of the Unname What can I say? We need a whole other two books in this world just based off that last line alone! I really hope there's more to come one day in the world of The Narrows。 。。。more

It’s very late at night and I’m very close to tears over this book。 I love Saint so much! He definitely had to grow on me throughout the Fable duology but even by the end of Namesake I understood him a lot better and after this book, everything he does later makes so much sense。 He would do anything to protect those he cares about。 I think I loved Saint and Isolde even more than Fable and West if that’s possible。 They just balanced each other out perfectly and I love when once the characters rea It’s very late at night and I’m very close to tears over this book。 I love Saint so much! I mostly hated him in Fable/Namesake and I still did in Saint。 Nice to know he has always been the same。 I just reread the ending of Namesake and everything with the lighthouse and the Midnight stone makes so much sense and I’m so sad because even though the book ended happy, I already know how this story ends and I need Saint and Isolde to have their happy ending because they deserve it。 I need to go back and reread Fable and Namesake to see what I missed。 。。。more

The whole time I was reading the Fable duology, I kept wishing we learned more about Saint, because he was so integral to Fable’s story and yet we only got pieces of him。 This。 Book。 Is。 Everything。 My most anticipated release this year and it didn’t disappoint at all! I think if you loved the Fable duology then you would appreciate this book。 You definely have to read it after the duology to really understand it and grasp everything。 Its fun and gives some background into the characters of the originally series。 I enjoyed my time reading this and loved being back in the world, the pirate vibes, and references to things that would evenually come up in the originally duology however I didn't think this was exciting as other books by the author。 If you love this I think if you loved the Fable duology then you would appreciate this book。 You definely have to read it after the duology to really understand it and grasp everything。 Its fun and gives some background into the characters of the originally series。 I enjoyed my time reading this and loved being back in the world, the pirate vibes, and references to things that would evenually come up in the originally duology however I didn't think this was exciting as other books by the author。 If you love this authors works or the Fable duology I think its a great read but its not necessary。 。。。more
