Summary

I’ve already mentally prepared myself to kill the screaming, murderous monster in the cage outside our camp。

I’m used to it。 It’s what I do here。 Kill monsters and other people。 And this monster, Seraph, is particularly unstable—has been since the moment he arrived from Collector Mary’s monster menagerie to the west, where the military stashed him away。

He’s in pain。 I can see it。 But he’s not a mindless beast。 Not like some of the others think。

When I start guarding him in his cage every night, I begin to see the person beneath the agony that tortures his every waking moment。 I begin to see who Seraph could have been if he hadn’t been twisted into this monstrous creature。

I realise that I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to kill him, even for his own sake, but it doesn’t matter anyway。 He’s already dying, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it。 Not even when new visitors at our raider camp bring with them secrets about Seraph。 Secrets the military has tried to hide。

Secrets that reveal the true extent of the horror he’s been put through。

And now… Now, I will kill anyone who tries to hurt him again。

I can't explain how strongly I feel for all the beasties and their partners in this Monstrous series。 Lily Mayne has created an impressive world here。 Seraph's story is quite emotional。 Gloam will always be my favourite beastie with Wyn a close second but I really didn't know how Seraph would gain my sympathy but Mayne worked her magic in this book。 Completely convinced me! Aiight。 Unpopular opinion。 But I didn’t LOVE this book in the series。 Lilac was one of my favorite characters。 He was intriguing and seemed like he had a lot of depths and layers to uncover。 It just felt VERY out of character for him to behave in some of the ways that he did while dealing with Seraph。 I’ll admit I loved seraph by the end and I got a little emotional when his backstory was revealed。 But I still don’t know that in my heart that I would believe seraph and lilac to be a great match。 Aiight。 Unpopular opinion。 But I didn’t LOVE this book in the series。 Lilac was one of my favorite characters。 He was intriguing and seemed like he had a lot of depths and layers to uncover。 It just felt VERY out of character for him to behave in some of the ways that he did while dealing with Seraph。 I’ll admit I loved seraph by the end and I got a little emotional when his backstory was revealed。 But I still don’t know that in my heart that I would believe seraph and lilac to be a great match。 Nnnugh 。。。more

SERAPH was such an emotional read and compared to the other books in the series this one had a more somber feel due to Seraph's history and his struggle to regain control of himself and his agency。 That being said there are so many bright and happy spots in this book and Lily Mayne does an excellent job building Seraph and Lilac's HEA。I'll keep this review short because a lot of what happens would be spoilers, but I enjoyed seeing the stoic and self-isolated Lilac fall in love。 The little moment SERAPH was such an emotional read and compared to the other books in the series this one had a more somber feel due to Seraph's history and his struggle to regain control of himself and his agency。 That being said there are so many bright and happy spots in this book and Lily Mayne does an excellent job building Seraph and Lilac's HEA。I'll keep this review short because a lot of what happens would be spoilers, but I enjoyed seeing the stoic and self-isolated Lilac fall in love。 The little moments where Lilac struggled to express his feelings and to feel comfortable with having feelings, to begin with were such sweet moments。 Seraph was also a great character and he goes through a lot of development in this book, though it was incredibly heartbreaking at times。 After everything he's been through I loved seeing him find happiness with Lilac。 I especially appreciated the way Lilac always treated him as a person and made sure that Seraph knew he deserved love and respect from everyone。One of my favorite parts of SERAPH was seeing all the previous couples together at the raider camp and I loved the family and friendships they formed。 Seeing the other monsters, especially Wyn, being protective of Seraph and wanting to help him was so sweet。 I especially adored Rig and his big compassionate heart; he wanted to help Seraph so badly and he was always there supporting and caring for Lilac。My only very small complaint is that I felt like a few parts in the middle dragged a bit and got repetitive but it was fairly minor。 There's so much to love about these characters and their story and I can't wait to see where the series goes next!Content Warning: past medical experimentation and torture; brief mentions of parental death; references to chronic pain 。。。more

Listen…of all the books in the series, I was most nervous for this one。 Seraph isn’t really, uh… the most conventionally attractive monster out there。 I mean, it’s safe to say none of them are conventionally attractive, but at least they don’t have a bunch of eyes all over their head。 But of course I loved it。 The angst was just so good。 I love hurt/comfort tropes and this book had it in spades。 Seraph and Lilac were so protective of each other。 Like in an insane, very entertaining way。 Seraph’s Listen…of all the books in the series, I was most nervous for this one。 Seraph isn’t really, uh… the most conventionally attractive monster out there。 I mean, it’s safe to say none of them are conventionally attractive, but at least they don’t have a bunch of eyes all over their head。 But of course I loved it。 The angst was just so good。 I love hurt/comfort tropes and this book had it in spades。 Seraph and Lilac were so protective of each other。 Like in an insane, very entertaining way。 Seraph’s background was honestly so devastating, but I loved how the beasties all did their best to help him through it。There managed to be some humor thrown into the mix as well。 Seraph referring to Wyn as Tiny Smoke Man just about killed me。 Watch out for Seraph, he’ll just charm the hell out of you (and Lilac)。 。。。more

hello to all my fellow monster fuckers out there。🖤✦ i wanted Lilac's book so bad ever since we first met him。 he is probably one of my favourite humans in this series。 something about his whole mysterious, quiet aura just attracted me to him from the very beginning。 i do wish we got to know him a little more though, which i do realise is a little weird to say, since the whole book was written from his pov。✦ this book definitely had some very sad moments。 you can't help but feel hearbroken for Se hello to all my fellow monster fuckers out there。🖤✦ i wanted Lilac's book so bad ever since we first met him。 he is probably one of my favourite humans in this series。 something about his whole mysterious, quiet aura just attracted me to him from the very beginning。 i do wish we got to know him a little more though, which i do realise is a little weird to say, since the whole book was written from his pov。✦ this book definitely had some very sad moments。 you can't help but feel hearbroken for Seraph when you find out his full story。 he is just such a sweetie tbh。 i admit i shed a couple of tears for him while reading this book。"i wanted him just as he was。 long, gangly limbs and sharp jutting teeth and the wall of beautiful discordant eyes。 all of it。"✦ the relationship between Lilac and Seraph was pretty slow burn, it definitely took a while for any romantic vibes to even appear。 the development wasn't the best overall imo, but for some reason, the fact that the relationships between the characters in this series develop so easily doesn't bother me that much overall。✦ the dynamic between them was very cute and wholesome。 i loved how protective they were of each other and how Lilac would have literally done anything to help Seraph。 all that hurt / comfort was delicious。"i could remember him there at my worst moments。 always there。 a quiet and calm presence that never wavered and never left and never gave up, even when i had no hope myself。 he had made me want to fight through it。 he had made me want to stay alive despite the pain, despite how close death had come to taking me。"✦ i really liked the fact that so many characters from all the books were in one place。 loved all the bonding between the couples。✦ Wyn is, hands down, still the superior monster in this series。 him and his humanity hating ass still own me。 i loved all his snarky, murderous comments so much。 the way he worships the ground Danny walks on and hates everyone else is just impeccable。✦ my niggles are the same things that i've mentioned in my previous reviews。 firstly, i personally want more monster pov's。 secondly, all the monsters are a little too sweet for my liking。 i would love at least one monster mc in this series to be truly scary, demonic, fucked up and not apologetic about it, and not all mushy, adorable and cute。 however, that's just my own personal preferences coming out。 i still love this series and all the characters a lot regardless。 。。。more

SeraphThese monster couples just keep getting better and better。 Before I started this novel I was finishing up the extra shorts the can be read on the authors website。 In the one short I saw that you could look at fan art and boy did it really help creating and keeping a visual while reading about Lilac and Seraph, and the other couples。 If you're into fan art you really want to see them for yourself! But anyway I love how bad Lilac is。 He can really hold his own and doesn't put up with idiots。 SeraphThese monster couples just keep getting better and better。 Before I started this novel I was finishing up the extra shorts the can be read on the authors website。 In the one short I saw that you could look at fan art and boy did it really help creating and keeping a visual while reading about Lilac and Seraph, and the other couples。 If you're into fan art you really want to see them for yourself! 4。5 ✨ Seraph has the most monstrous features (and “features”) of all the monsters in this series and he was so precious 😭。 I loved him and Lilac together so much。 Idk how we got a sweet sweet (but scary looking) bean with the most murdery, loyal human but I’m such a fan。 I prefer the roaming/exploring/seeing the Wastes vibes in the previous books, but their couple dynamic literally carried the whole book so I didn’t really miss it all that much。

The last book currently available of this series。。。。y'all I'm experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms from this series。 Finally, we get to the Lilac-centric book, and BOY did it deliver。 I'm going to first start off by saying this is definitely the most monster-fuckery book of a series made up of monster fuckers。 And that's because out of all the beasties that lead the other books, Seraph is definitely the most non-human of them all。 But of course it would be my boy Lilac that falls for the crea The last book currently available of this series。。。。y'all I'm experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms from this series。 Finally, we get to the Lilac-centric book, and BOY did it deliver。 I'm going to first start off by saying this is definitely the most monster-fuckery book of a series made up of monster fuckers。 And that's because out of all the beasties that lead the other books, Seraph is definitely the most non-human of them all。 But of course it would be my boy Lilac that falls for the creature most unlike themselves。 First of all, Lilac。 I've loved Lilac since he was first introduced (I think most people do, honestly)。 He's strong and surely, keeps to himself, but genuinely cares even if he doesn't show it。 He loves his plants, and enjoys his time to himself, and like Moth, has had a hard time making genuine connections over the years。 His friendships with Ghost and Rig in Books 3 and 4 were highlights。 And of course in this book, Lilac collects all the bffs。 Lord knows I'll probably go on and on about his friendships later。 And of course his friendship with Anchor, the camp leader。 Lilac has never really overly involved himself with anyone, but I did like that we saw some of his relationship with Rusty。 And I LOVED learning of his past。 It made so much sense。 This is also where one major gripe I kind of had with this author comes into its biggest issue for me。 Character description。 The author is great at her monster descriptions, but once again fails to tell me important things about the humans。 This first became an issue to me because I was picturing certain things in my head for these characters, only to later find out the character looked vastly different or was a different race。 I just wish the author had let us know this earlier so I could've imagined the characters more accurately。 I didn't like learning that Lilac is half-Japanese 4 books after he's introduced。 That would've been nice to know much earlier on。 Seraph was such an interesting beasite。 I actually managed to guess what happened to him fairly early on! I'm usually not a great guesser of plots, but this time I was spot on! Poor Seraph :/ I loved how Lilac fell in love with Seraph wholly, not despite of his monstrous qualities, but they're parts of him that the loves。 He didn't just fall in love with the humanity in Seraph, but with all of Seraph。 His most monstrous qualities at the forefront。 Another thing I enjoyed (and thought was a strength of the writing of the series as a whole) is the fact that Lilac did not just become a different person by falling in love with Seraph。 Do certain parts of him soften? Yes。 Does he become more open to connections with those around him? Yes。 But he doesn't become a different person out of nowhere。 He doesn't suddenly become chatty, and super sociable, and super full of PDA or anything like that。 Throughout all the books, the characterization is super consistent, and while the characters grow and improve it doesn't feel out of character。I also enjoyed how this book was more of a slower burn than the others。 It was kind of needed honestly, since Seraph wasn't really in his right mind for most of the beginning。 But I still appreciated it。 Lilac and Seraph and Rig were another highlight。 Rig was such a good friend to them both, always on their side, always understanding of why Lilac was falling for Seraph, and what he felt he needed to do to be close to him。 Him and Gloam are the best-hearted characters honestly。Lilac and Wyn。 This is the bestie-ism I didn't know I needed, and I was screaming, crying, kicking my feet, I loved them。 They had some tension but in the end I think that's because Like recognizes Like。 They're both incredibly strong people, not afraid of much, and will do anything for the people they genuinely care about。 I want a Lilac and Wyn buddy fighting team short。 I think if there's one human who Wyn would be like yeah this guy can handle his own and could actually be an asset to me: it'd be Lilac。 I ~crave~ it。 That's partially why I want a team field trip book to the Con au Sin with everyone。 When they inevitably gotta fight something (monster, military, cult, etc)。 I want to see Wyn and Lilac (and Moth) kick ass as a team。 Lastly, I want to highlight Lilac and Gloam。 GLOAM YOU SOFT-HEARTED SQUISH。 He just cares so much about Seraph and about Lilac。 They were described as having developed a sort of father-son relationship, which is adorable, but I more just liked the idea of Gloam just recognizing something in Lilac, the part of him that is constantly taken advantage of because of his physical strength and his strength-of-will。 I think Gloam wanted to give Lilac some of that protection Lilac always gives to everyone else。 As much as I loved Lilac and Seraph's love story, the newly developed friendships in this book were absolutely one of my favorite things about it。 I ended up buying physical copies of Soul Eater, Wyn, Gloam, Moth and Seraph。 I can't wait to have all of them together on my bookshelves。 I will definitely check out any additional books Lily puts out in this series。 。。。more
