Summary

This is the story of the Lynch family。

Niall and Mór escaped their homeland for a new start, and lost themselves in what they found。

Declan has grown up as the responsible son, the responsible brother - only to find there is no way for him to keep his family safe。

Ronan has always lived on the edge between dreams and waking 。。。 but now that edge is gone, and he is falling。

Matthew has been the happy child, the brightest beam。 But rebellion beckons, because it all feels like an illusion now。

This world was not made for such a family - a family with the power to make a world and break it。 If they cannot save each other or themselves, we are all doomed。

The war between dreams and reality intensifies。。。 with Ronan at its center。

Like coming home。 A near perfect finale to an excellent saga。 I didn't have an ending in mind, but oh man this one worked for me。 Like coming home。 A near perfect finale to an excellent saga。 I didn't have an ending in mind, but oh man this one worked for me。 。。。more

this book reminds me of hanging out with an old friend for the first time in a long time and things being different。 not in a bad way necessarily but in a noticeable way that makes you miss the way things used to be。 there’s lots of things to like here: adam’s (incredibly compressed) arc, the fairy tale-esque prequel bits with niall and mor, hennessy’s tam lin moment, the denouement being framed like the week god made everything in genesis。 but i feel like matthew and jordan get the short end of this book reminds me of hanging out with an old friend for the first time in a long time and things being different。 not in a bad way necessarily but in a noticeable way that makes you miss the way things used to be。 there’s lots of things to like here: adam’s (incredibly compressed) arc, the fairy tale-esque prequel bits with niall and mor, hennessy’s tam lin moment, the denouement being framed like the week god made everything in genesis。 but i feel like matthew and jordan get the short end of the stick, the ultimate antagonist is a snore (it really reminds me of how the last jedi set up an interesting final conflict only for them to bring palpatine back), and the epilogue…。call down the hawk felt like a shot in the arm this feels like a slap in the face, a friendly slap by someone you don’t know that well anymore being playful and overly familiar。 still excited to see what stiefvater does next now that she’s done writing ya。 。。。more

Wow。 Just。 Wow。What an incredibly wild ride through the past of the Barns and its inhabitants, Niall and Mor; through Declan and Ronan's young childhoods, through a coming apocalypse that might just have one person standing in its way - if Ronan can manage to get his act together to stop it。 Lots of loose ends tied up and a mystery solved from waaaaay back in The Raven Boys。 And a very quick reappearance coda of Gansey and Blue。 Oh, I wasn't expected some of the things that popped up in this fin Wow。 Just。 Wow。What an incredibly wild ride through the past of the Barns and its inhabitants, Niall and Mor; through Declan and Ronan's young childhoods, through a coming apocalypse that might just have one person standing in its way - if Ronan can manage to get his act together to stop it。 Lots of loose ends tied up and a mystery solved from waaaaay back in The Raven Boys。 And a very quick reappearance coda of Gansey and Blue。 Oh, I wasn't expected some of the things that popped up in this finale but oh so satisfying。 。。。more

why do fantasy writers always have the main character in some kind of state for the whole last book??? that was not that good tbh but the epilogue was worth it

Eh? 3 1/2 stars?I feel like this book was both too long for what it was at times & too short for what it could/should have been。 For the most part it was dreamy & yet lackluster, & a whole lot didn't happen。 I wasn't very emotionally invested, & I felt like part of the problem came out of left field (view spoiler)[Nathan was still alive?? Also, the Lace。。。still don't understand that。。。 (hide spoiler)]I did cry at one point (view spoiler)[Chapter 12 - when Adam brought Chainsaw to see Ronan。 (hid Eh? 3 1/2 stars?I feel like this book was both too long for what it was at times & too short for what it could/should have been。 For the most part it was dreamy & yet lackluster, & a whole lot didn't happen。 I wasn't very emotionally invested, & I felt like part of the problem came out of left field (view spoiler)[Nathan was still alive?? Rating: 2。5/5Maggie Stiefvater is usually great at weaving different plotlines and PoVs but this time her execution seemed。。。 messy? poorly paced? I don't know what exactly but I was bored most of the time。 Having the protagonist of the series float in the space between dream and reality and do nothing for the majority of the book wasn't as smart as she probably thought it was。 He ended up being a side character in his own book。 Also, I don't know what happened with the antagonist, but he wasn't Rating: 2。5/5Maggie Stiefvater is usually great at weaving different plotlines and PoVs but this time her execution seemed。。。 messy? poorly paced? What is there even to say? This book took any expectations I could’ve had for it coming off Mister Impossible, tossed them in a blender, and hit pulse。 Honestly, it probably shouldn’t have worked, and yet it really, really did。 What a way to close it all out。

I have complicated feelings for this series as a whole, but perhaps particularly this installment。 I love this series, but I think I would like it better if it and The Raven Cycle were their own separate monsters。 As much as I love Ronan Lynch and was excited to see him with his own series, I think that the differences between the two series were just too stark。 I understand where Maggie was coming from - this was never supposed to be a true sequel to the original series。 It was its own thing。 R I have complicated feelings for this series as a whole, but perhaps particularly this installment。 I love this series, but I think I would like it better if it and The Raven Cycle were their own separate monsters。 As much as I love Ronan Lynch and was excited to see him with his own series, I think that the differences between the two series were just too stark。 I understand where Maggie was coming from - this was never supposed to be a true sequel to the original series。 It was its own thing。 Ronan’s own thing。 Which is… fine。 But I feel like that severe of a separation warped any enjoyment I would have gotten from the series if they weren’t related。 The fact that we get a cameo from Blue and Gansey and Henry at all was a miracle。 I understand that this series was about the brothers, but the fact that Ronan was so completely separated from the rest of the characters from The Raven Cycle (minus his brothers and Adam) felt forced。 It felt like it was forcing a character that you really liked writing into a setting that should have called for a new character altogether。So—complicated feelings。 I loved the series。 Truly, I did。 Not as much as The Raven Cycle, because that was never going to happen。 But I loved Jordan and Hennessy even when I hated them。 Their love and hatred and bitterness for each other was hard sometimes。 Hennessy herself is such a vibrant character, daring the world to dislike her for her loudness, her brashness, her humor。 I loved them。 I loved Jordan and Declan, the glimpses we get of how well they work together。 I loved Hennessy and Ronan’s dynamic, even though we don’t see much of it in this installation, their dark humor that they bounce back and forth between each other。 I also really did grow a soft spot for Carmen too。 Her fire, her opera, the painting that Hennessy made of her。 The tragedy of Lilliana。 The mouse。 That kiss?!So many things that I loved about this series, but also so many things that I didn’t。 So many things that could have been better if it were a new cast of characters rather than twisting the old ones to try to fit a new mold。 Maybe I’m just tired and bitter, but I don’t know。 I WAS hoping for more。 But I felt a similar way about The Raven King, so maybe it’s just my curse to not be fully satisfied by the endings of Maggie’s series。I think I’m going to have to read both series again to get my feelings completely in order but mostly? I’m just glad that Ronan can rest。 。。。more

This was definitely an improvement upon the last book。 The first two felt like so much setup and with this last installment we finally have some momentum with the plot。 I think I enjoyed this one more because it gave a good amount of time to the characters I really cared about。 If you were iffy about Mister Impossible, don't give up- this last one is worth it。 This was definitely an improvement upon the last book。 The first two felt like so much setup and with this last installment we finally have some momentum with the plot。 I think I enjoyed this one more because it gave a good amount of time to the characters I really cared about。 If you were iffy about Mister Impossible, don't give up- this last one is worth it。 。。。more

Well, Declan is my favorite in this series。 Got frustrated with Hennessey in book 2, but this one I was rooting for her。 Satisfying ending。 Many reveals I didn't see coming, but that in hindsight were telegraphed。 Made me cry at a few points。 Well, Declan is my favorite in this series。 Got frustrated with Hennessey in book 2, but this one I was rooting for her。 Satisfying ending。 Many reveals I didn't see coming, but that in hindsight were telegraphed。 Made me cry at a few points。 。。。more

Stiefvater's characterizations remain as strong as ever, pulling on emotions so fundamentally human that my investment continues to grow for her various characters, including some I hadn't cared for initially。 While I would have loved to see more of them at times, the book succeeded at making me feel and brought me to a conclusion I enjoyed。 Stiefvater's characterizations remain as strong as ever, pulling on emotions so fundamentally human that my investment continues to grow for her various characters, including some I hadn't cared for initially。 While I would have loved to see more of them at times, the book succeeded at making me feel and brought me to a conclusion I enjoyed。 。。。more

Is this book worthy of 4 stars。。。? debatable。 honestly I didn't care for about 70% of it I think。Does this book feature 5 of my FUCKING FAVOURITE characters ever though? yes it does。and apparently that is enough for me to give this 4 stars。 plot? eugh。。。 not my thing。writing? gorgeous characters? obsessed with half of them - literally couldn't care less about the others。sense of my rating? only exists to me probably。 but it is accurate。 Is this book worthy of 4 stars。。。? debatable。 honestly I didn't care for about 70% of it I think。Does this book feature 5 of my FUCKING FAVOURITE characters ever though? yes it does。and apparently that is enough for me to give this 4 stars。 plot? eugh。。。 not my thing。writing? gorgeous characters? obsessed with half of them - literally couldn't care less about the others。sense of my rating? only exists to me probably。 but it is accurate。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 three stars for the series - three stars for this book as it felt rushed and Ronan is out of action for a lot of it; although we do get more back story and Declan's story is filled out。 I always found him to be sympathetic and I am glad this series shows how heroic he is。 Part of the reason for only three stars is that I am comparing it to The Raven Cycle - that might be unfair but so be it。 But another reason for the three stars is that I have so many questions - here goes。。。。Was Ronan the same three stars for the series - three stars for this book as it felt rushed and Ronan is out of action for a lot of it; although we do get more back story and Declan's story is filled out。 I always found him to be sympathetic and I am glad this series shows how heroic he is。 Part of the reason for only three stars is that I am comparing it to The Raven Cycle - that might be unfair but so be it。 But another reason for the three stars is that I have so many questions - here goes。。。。Was Ronan the same thing as the Lace (whatever that is)? The Lace is always trying to force Hennessy to let it through。 But wasn't the same thing that was happening to Mor。 Mor told Niall that the 'dream world' wanted more and eventually she convinced him to dream with her and woke with Ronan。 It's apparent that Ronan is not evil -and the Lace is -but isn't that because Niall made sure he dreamed feelings into Ronan? So throughout the book Ronan is being told he is of both worlds - he's more than just a Dreamer and more than just a Dream - but why does he fall asleep when Hennessy kills the ley lines? Ronan's dreamer is still alive。 And if Ronan falls asleep then why doesn't Hennessy; she is in the dream world with Ronan when she kills the ley lines-so why is she still okay? And the whole sweetmetals thing - that was just odd。 Some of the Moderators are over a thousand years old -yet sweetmetals are rare and eventually lose power。 Why does Jordan fall asleep? Hennessy is alive。 And if Byrdie is Ronan's creation -and Byrdie can reach out to other dreamers and knows about sweetmetals -then why doesn't/can't Ronan。 If Ronan can wake the ley line then why doesn't he do it right away - can it not be done from inside the dreaming? Hennessy is afraid to fall asleep and dream -Ronan teaches her that she can dream and not bring something back or she can shape what she brings back into anything - it doesn't have to be a copy。 So why does Ronan dream the monster crabs? And why can't Ronan live with Adam? Can he not leave the Barns or does he have to be on a ley line? Can't they find a place on the ley line? Other dreamers live all over the world why is Ronan stuck? Why does Ronan suffer from the Nightwash- is it from not dreaming, not sleeping, being off the ley line? And where are the rest of the gang? I get this is the story of the Lynch brothers but Ronan has a posse and it is inconceivable that they aren't there for him, Adam, Matthew, and Declan。 Henry's mother has deeper connections than Declan has and plenty of money and she could easily get a powerful sweetmetal for Matthew or to help wake Ronan。 Blue is like a booster charger and could strengthen Adam's scriving when he tries to reach Ronan。 And Blue's family could help with their abilities。 Adam has talked to the Grey Man so of course everyone knows something is going on。 And Gansey has connections that Adam doesn't and he could get more info on the Moderators。 It just seemed a bit unbelievable that by the third book they weren't all in the fight for Ronan。 See lots of questions。 Three stars is probably harsh -I enjoyed this series mostly because it was about Ronan and his brothers -an extension of The Raven Cycle。 I don't know if it stands on it's own - maybe that's the reason to leave Ronan's friends out of the story? 。。。more
