Summary

Introducing Little Clothbound Classics: irresistible, mini editions of short stories, novellas and essays from the world's greatest writers, designed by the award-winning Coralie Bickford-Smith。

Celebrating the range and diversity of Penguin Classics, they take us from snowy Japan to springtime Vienna, from haunted New England to a sun-drenched Mediterranean island, and from a game of chess on the ocean to a love story on the moon。 Beautifully designed and printed, these collectible editions are bound in colourful, tactile cloth and stamped with foil。

One morning, ordinary salesman Gregor Samsa wakes up to find himself transformed into a giant cockroach。 Metamorphosis, Kafka's masterpiece of unease and black humour, is one of the twentieth century's most influential works of fiction, and is accompanied here by two more classic stories。

'He is the greatest German writer of our time。 Such poets as Rilke or such novelists as Thomas Mann are dwarfs or plaster saints in comparison to him' - Vladimir Nabokov

The plot is a metaphor that often transfixed my feeling and thouhts towards the main character。。 The writer had tendency to show a two-sides of writting either too realistic or to irrealistic。。 Wasn't sure which side was stronger, however it did left a heavy heart and fustration of helplessness at times。 Not easy to take in, however I tend to find comfort in stories that are out of hemisphere as layered down the smallest details of the plot。 Twisted, diverse, and intense! This book has always held a special place in my heart。 Franz Kafka was a weird guy, and that is evident in this story! If you're willing to suspend reality a bit, you'll definitely be intrigued by this story。 This book has always held a special place in my heart。 Franz Kafka was a weird guy, and that is evident in this story! A solid 3。5 stars! This book holds a special, albeit weird, place in my heart。 Kafka was quite an interesting person! I recommend this took to people who are willing to suspend reality for a bit。 And even if you cannot, try reading Gregor as a person who instantly became ill in some other fashion。 That may provide a new lens with which to view it!

An absurdist classic about a man who wakes up transformed into an insect, The Metamorphosis is less of a blend of science fiction and horror like The Fly and more of a simple and straightforward metaphor。 Kafka writes the strange tale with a casual, matter of fact attitude and presents it with little fanfare。 This leads the reader to deduce that the story is not about the physical oddity of it all as much as it is about the consequences of the transformation。 Kafka seems more interested in the e An absurdist classic about a man who wakes up transformed into an insect, The Metamorphosis is less of a blend of science fiction and horror like The Fly and more of a simple and straightforward metaphor。 Kafka writes the strange tale with a casual, matter of fact attitude and presents it with little fanfare。 This leads the reader to deduce that the story is not about the physical oddity of it all as much as it is about the consequences of the transformation。 Kafka seems more interested in the effect that this mutation has on Gregor's family and home life than in what it means for the man himself。 More than that, he doesn't seem the least bit preoccupied with how or why this physical change was even possible。 It seems to me, after doing some research into the author's life, that this metamorphosis most likely represents some form of depression。 Because of his new physical form, Gregor is unable to work and provide for his family。 Eventually, he is unable to eat or nourish himself in any way。 Meanwhile, his sister seems to be blossoming in the opposite direction。 I'm sure that this was Kafka working through his own mental anguish as he suffered with depression and anxiety throughout his life。 He appears to be referencing his own feelings of guilt and ineffectualness in Gregor's dour plight。 I respect the significance of this book as a classic piece of literature and as a way of translating Kafka's internal struggles even more。 However, the overall experience of reading the work is actually quite dull for a story about a man who becomes a bug。 For me, it lacks the artistry and intrigue that could have made this a more engaging and affecting story。 I appreciate its place in the canon of classic literature but was left pretty unimpressed with the story as a whole。 。。。more

As much as I love the book and the idea of being as repulsive as a vermin, which was depicted very literally in this book, I simply can't get myself to like the way Kafka writes, so this book gets only 4 stars from me (also I read this like way back in like mid-September lmao) As much as I love the book and the idea of being as repulsive as a vermin, which was depicted very literally in this book, I simply can't get myself to like the way Kafka writes, so this book gets only 4 stars from me (also I read this like way back in like mid-September lmao) 。。。more
