This book was easy to comprehend and focused on the Diwali (A Hindu festival)。I thought the graphics were great。 This would be a good book if you want to learn or teach someone about cultural celebrations in India。

This book is very informative with great illustrations。 This book would be perfect for young children to learn about a different culture and learn why it's important and also what it celebrates。 This would be a great read-aloud book to read during Diwali to educate a class on its traditions。 This book is very informative with great illustrations。 This book would be perfect for young children to learn about a different culture and learn why it's important and also what it celebrates。 This would be a great read-aloud book to read during Diwali to educate a class on its traditions。 。。。more

This is a great introduction to Diwali, which the girls have been exposed to a bit when we go into the city。 I love the colours of the illustrations。

I like this book because it was about some holiday。 It's called Diwali, the important time of year for one of my friends; his name is Ishaan (I don't know what his favorite color is) and his baby brother Viaan if also important to him。 And his father Pradyush and his mother Carolina。 Which I think was sort of out Spanish teacher when I didn't have a Spanish teacher in school。 I like this book because it was about some holiday。 It's called Diwali, the important time of year for one of my friends; his name is Ishaan (I don't know what his favorite color is) and his baby brother Viaan if also important to him。 And his father Pradyush and his mother Carolina。 Which I think was sort of out Spanish teacher when I didn't have a Spanish teacher in school。 。。。more

Beautifully written and illustrated。 It's a very good introduction to the holiday for children who celebrate Diwali and, for those who don't, a good resource for learning to understand and appreciate other cultures。 Beautifully written and illustrated。 It's a very good introduction to the holiday for children who celebrate Diwali and, for those who don't, a good resource for learning to understand and appreciate other cultures。 。。。more

I really enjoy this one but I also think it's really strange that it is in the form of a boardbook, as the vocabulary and writing are meant for definitely not boardbook age。 I really enjoy this one but I also think it's really strange that it is in the form of a boardbook, as the vocabulary and writing are meant for definitely not boardbook age。 。。。more

A succinct introduction (though, much wordier than most board books) to Diwali (Celebrate the World series) in a board book format。 Gorgeous, colorful illustrations by Archana Sreenivasan bring this holiday to life and readers of all ages will want to pore over them。

This is one book in an entire series of board books with the goal of opening up the youngest listeners to the variety of cultures and some of their celebrations。 I've read two of these already, but this one is my favorite。Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is celebrated around this time of year (end of October/early November)。 In these pages, the background behind Diwali is very quickly hit upon (the goddess and how the light invites her in), allowing the main focus to remain on the p This is one book in an entire series of board books with the goal of opening up the youngest listeners to the variety of cultures and some of their celebrations。 I've read two of these already, but this one is my favorite。Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is celebrated around this time of year (end of October/early November)。 In these pages, the background behind Diwali is very quickly hit upon (the goddess and how the light invites her in), allowing the main focus to remain on the preparation and practices during the five day celebration。 For a board book, there is enough text, but it never comes across as too much。 Rather, it's perfect to read-aloud and flows with enough of a 'story time' flare to keep it interesting。 It probably won't hold the interest of the youngest listeners, but children ages four and up will pick up on the information and have no trouble understanding what is going on。The illustrations are bright, detailed and bring the scenes to life without growing confusing or over-packed。 The people's expressions bring across the joy and make it difficult not to want to dive into the pages and celebrate with the characters。While Dewali is a celebration many readers may not have heard about before, this book does a great job of making the basic background and rituals understandable。 While younger listeners will enjoy gazing at the illustrations, slight older listeners (ages four and up) will be more able to grasp the holiday and the celebration。I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed this one the most in the series, so I wanted to leave my honest thoughts。 。。。more

Other than calling it the festival of lights, I will wager that few have more than that cursory understanding of the celebration。 How lovely to provide children with a book that showcases the holiday honored by more than a billion people worldwide!Who this book is for:Great for all kids。 If your children enjoyed other books in the series such as Dia de Los Muertos, this one should be a hit。 The one problem with this series continues to be that it is in board book format, although the information is better suited for grades 1-2。 Would rather see this as an early reader series。Final thoughts:Love that they have included Hindi words in the text。 。。。more

This is the third is a series of books we got our son on holidays from around the world。 He enjoys the bright, fun, engaging pictures, and we as parents appreciate the good introductions to other cultures and religions as we try to raise a respectful, inclusive child。
