Summary

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING JULIA ROBERTS, OWEN WILSON, AND JACOB TREMBLAY!

Over 6 million people have read the #1 New York Times bestseller WONDER and have fallen in love with Auggie Pullman, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary face。

The book that inspired the Choose Kind movement。

I won’t describe what I look like。 Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse。

August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school。 Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face。 WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others。 These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance。

“Wonder is the best kids’ book of the year,” said Emily Bazelon, senior editor at Slate。com and author of Sticks and Stones: Defeating the Culture of Bullying and Rediscovering the Power of Character and Empathy。 In a world where bullying among young people is an epidemic, this is a refreshing new narrative full of heart and hope。 R。J。 Palacio has called her debut novel “a meditation on kindness” —indeed, every reader will come away with a greater appreciation for the simple courage of friendship。 Auggie is a hero to root for, a diamond in the rough who proves that you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out。

Fine story, but it's missing an exciting part, everything is just kind of what happens in school, apart from his face。 Fine story, but it's missing an exciting part, everything is just kind of what happens in school, apart from his face。 。。。more

My children (6&9) listened to this story with me; what a great opportunity to talk about the characters, both child and adult, and discuss how they handled different situations。 A beautiful story of diversity with discussion worthy bumps in the road of inclusion。

Though primarily written for children, this novel will resonate with adults too。It tells the story of 10 year old August Pullman (Auggie) and his tumultuous first year at Middle School。 Auggie is no ordinary child。 He suffers from a rare, genetic facial condition called Treacher Collins Syndrome which affects the development of his cheekbones, jaw, ears and eyelids。 Despite multiple surgeries he still looks ‘different’ 。 His parents have home-schooled him through his junior school years but enco Though primarily written for children, this novel will resonate with adults too。It tells the story of 10 year old August Pullman (Auggie) and his tumultuous first year at Middle School。 Auggie is no ordinary child。 He suffers from a rare, genetic facial condition called Treacher Collins Syndrome which affects the development of his cheekbones, jaw, ears and eyelids。 Despite multiple surgeries he still looks ‘different’ 。 His parents have home-schooled him through his junior school years but encourage him to attend ‘Beecher Prep’ at the start of grade five。 They have misgivings that he’ll struggle but have faith in their extraordinary boy and in the school community they’ve chosen。 How Auggie overcomes the challenge of finding acceptance and friendship at his new school makes for heart-rending reading。 The story is ultimately uplifting with its overarching message to ‘choose kindness’。The book is written from a series of points of view including Auggie, his teenage sister Olivia (Via), her friend Miranda, and Auggie’s two school friends Jack and Summer。 I listened to the audiobook and the voices of the children were ‘just right’。Auggie is a smart and sensitive boy who feels ‘ordinary’ but knows that he looks ‘different’。 He has to endure stares, taunts and isolation before his wit and personality eventually win him friends。 Summer is one of his earliest friends。 She’s a kind and thoughtful girl who sits with him at lunch in a show of solidarity。Jack becomes Auggie’s best friend but isn’t immune to the stigma of being friends with ‘the freak’。 He eventually chooses his genuine liking for Auggie over being part of the ‘popular clique’。Via loves her brother dearly and is protective of him, but she sometimes wishes she didn’t always ‘come second’ for her parents’ attention。 She reveals details of Auggie’s syndrome and the horrible genetic lottery she’s inherited should she decide to have children。 It makes her a very sympathetic character。Miranda’s parents have recently divorced and she feels abandoned。 She ‘cools’ her friendship with Via and Auggie after a Summer camp where she’s accepted into a popular group, but comes to regret this。 She atones by a kind act at the High School play。Among the well-drawn adult characters are Auggie’s parents。 They are loving, funny and supportive。 They’re protective too but realise that Auggie needs to grow and expand his horizons。 Mr Tushman, the school principal is wise kindly and has a great sense of humour。 His management of Julian’s bullying of Auggie and Julian’s mother’s complaints show understanding and intelligence。 Julian’s mother represents a superficial class of person and her prejudice has largely led to Julian’s behaviour。 I can see why this book is recommended reading on school book lists。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 It’s well-researched, thought-provoking and uplifting。 Some may say it’s a bit too saccharine in its ending。 I feel it’s appropriate for junior readers and for the message of kindness and acceptance it aims to convey。 。。。more

https://taaghche。com/book/15221/%D8%A。。。 https://taaghche。com/book/15221/%D8%A。。。 。。。more

This was such a beautiful story and I absolutely hated the way people treated August ,they acted like being around him was such a pain and having him around was a punishment ,even from adults sometimes。。。。。。This reminded me that middle school is really one of the worst moments of your life or at least it was for me 。

I enjoyed this book so much。 The first time I was introduced to this book is when I started to work in the school system。 At first I did not think that this was a good book。 Then once I realized that the main character August also known as Auggie was treated different and teased because of birth defects。 I feel this book had to do with the things that goes on with today's generation of children。 People will try to treat you a certain way because you are different。 I love how his friend Jack real I enjoyed this book so much。 The first time I was introduced to this book is when I started to work in the school system。 At first I did not think that this was a good book。 Then once I realized that the main character August also known as Auggie was treated different and teased because of birth defects。 I feel this book had to do with the things that goes on with today's generation of children。 People will try to treat you a certain way because you are different。 I love how his friend Jack really did not seem like he was a good friend because of peer pressure but he was a good friend and it made him feel bad。 Think about today some students have to hide their own feelings of angry and bullying due to they are ignored because of younger siblings actions or situations。 At the end of the day this book showed how some children can put aside their own feelings to help a friend。 It's not always good to go with the cool crowd because everything that looks good, smells good is not good for you。 this story really related to me because sometimes family and friends will miss the signs that you send of pain and hurt, that when they realize they made a mistake they are there to lift you up。 Auggie was the main character and experienced a lot but he still stayed strong because he was supported and acknowledged by others who got to really know him。 in my personal opinion no matter how different you are your differences do not make who you are。 It takes one person to stand up to make another feel just as great inside。 this book was considered a realistic fiction book。 It touched based on real events that may take place in today's society。 I work in the school system and see this happen everyday。 It also teaches students about how their actions have a consequence, good or bad。 I am glad this book is added to our guided reading selection in ACCPS。 This book was a The book was the winner of the 2014 Maine Student Book Award, Vermont's Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award, the 2015 Mark Twain Award, Hawaii's 2015 Nene Award, and the Junior Young Reader's Choice Award for 2015。 I think this book should be continually read in all grade levels。 Regardless off what makes you different doesn't identify who you are。 Also do not forget about your other siblings in the process。 I love the fact he was honored by his school。 A must read。 The father hiding his astronaut mask was a good decision。 。。。more

“Como seres humanos, llevamos dentro no solo la capacidad para ser amables, sino la elección de poder ser amables。”Una lectura que hipnotiza y fluye cual agua en las manos。 Además de dejar en nosotros lectores la semilla para recordar y aun más importante, poner en practica, el camino de la amabilidad y la tolerancia en nuestro día a día。 Una lectura simplemente maravillosa。

I think my expectations for this book were too high。 Started reading it with my kids but it never really drew in our interest。 I finished it on my own but more out of stubbornness than an actual desire to read it。 It has a good message and is an easy read but overall fell flat for me。

I can not believe I’m just now reading this Wonder of a book。 It is so good。 I didn’t realize until maybe halfway through that it’s written from multiple perspectives - my fav。 Of course the majority is written from Auggie’s perspective, but I loved that it included others and that they were all kids’ perspectives。 This book invokes so many emotions。 I could relate to so much which surprised me。 Auggie’s disability is unique and the chances are you’ve never heard of it but how many of us have fe I can not believe I’m just now reading this Wonder of a book。 It is so good。 I didn’t realize until maybe halfway through that it’s written from multiple perspectives - my fav。 Of course the majority is written from Auggie’s perspective, but I loved that it included others and that they were all kids’ perspectives。 This book invokes so many emotions。 I could relate to so much which surprised me。 Auggie’s disability is unique and the chances are you’ve never heard of it but how many of us have felt excluded at some point? How many of us have been the person doing the excluding? How many of us have allowed our emotions to spew into others - wrongfully so? The parents’ perspectives weren’t included but I felt for them as well。 I’ve laid my child on an operating table before not knowing what the outcome would be。 I’ve feared the mocking and reactions of others for my child and myself more times than I would like to admit。 Auggie’s story may be unique, but it’s also common。 Chances are that you can relate to this more than you expect。 I found myself tearing up considerably during the last chapter。 Highly recommend! No language。 No s*x。 Nothing inappropriate。 。。。more

I love this book because it shows that it does not matter if you're different you still are an amazing person in every way。 The book also shows to not bully and to stand up for someone you see that is getting bullied, just like jack-will did to Auggie。 This is now my favorite book of all time。 :) I love this book because it shows that it does not matter if you're different you still are an amazing person in every way。 The book also shows to not bully and to stand up for someone you see that is getting bullied, just like jack-will did to Auggie。 This is now my favorite book of all time。 :) 。。。more

Wow!!! This book gave me so much emotion, from just a flick of the page。 It is most definitely true that you should always “value of that simple thing called kindness。” Because with a little bit of kindness each and every day, then you can make an enormous difference to someone’s life。 Especially when you are “born to stand out”。 Auggie is such an inspiring character to read about, as he shows that even though you may be different to everyone else, you should always be yourself around people tha Wow!!! I enjoyed this story a lot。 One of the reasons I enjoyed this is because it is very different from what I usually read so I liked the difference。 Plus there is a lot of twists in the book。 I liked how it is written from a lot of different points of view。So in the beginning he gives a description of something that happened。 So before fifth grade he had been homeschooled because he is very different from most people。 So in the summer before fifth grade his mom decides that he needs to go to school I enjoyed this story a lot。 One of the reasons I enjoyed this is because it is very different from what I usually read so I liked the difference。 Plus there is a lot of twists in the book。 I liked how it is written from a lot of different points of view。So in the beginning he gives a description of something that happened。 So before fifth grade he had been homeschooled because he is very different from most people。 So in the summer before fifth grade his mom decides that he needs to go to school。 In school he makes friends but also gets betrayed。 Sometimes this book makes you feel really sad about what he goes through。 But at the end the book makes you very happy。 。。。more

This book is amazing it shows you a lot of values about growing up and starting to be independent and not always wanting to be with your parents but be free with people the same age。 This book can be shorter because it talks a lot about how Auggie sister is sad because her parents don't pay attention to her and instead the book can talk more about the secondary characters like Auggies Friends or maybe talk about the teacher's point of view。 This book is amazing it shows you a lot of values about growing up and starting to be independent and not always wanting to be with your parents but be free with people the same age。 This book can be shorter because it talks a lot about how Auggie sister is sad because her parents don't pay attention to her and instead the book can talk more about the secondary characters like Auggies Friends or maybe talk about the teacher's point of view。 。。。more

I really enjoyed the novel Wonder, by R。 J。 Palacio。 Augie was homeschooled until fifth grade。 I can relate to not wanting to go to school to learn because there are so many people looking at you and it gets overwhelming。 I liked this book so much because of how much each and every character grows as a person, in other words, how much they develop as a character。 Another reason I like this book is because of the main character's mom。 She plays such a big part in helping everyone。 She helped them I really enjoyed the novel Wonder, by R。 J。 Palacio。 Augie was homeschooled until fifth grade。 I can relate to not wanting to go to school to learn because there are so many people looking at you and it gets overwhelming。 I liked this book so much because of how much each and every character grows as a person, in other words, how much they develop as a character。 Another reason I like this book is because of the main character's mom。 She plays such a big part in helping everyone。 She helped them get through the bad times and was so encouraging during the good。 I think she is the perfect example of an amazing mom, wife, friend, and so much more。 She was so nice that I changed a little because of her。 I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read sappy books with a good message。 。。。more
