Summary

'Irresistable。' Megan Abbott
'A gory, gorgeous feast of a book。' Kiran Millwood Hargrave
'This book is crazy。 You have to read it。' Bon Appetit

Dorothy Daniels has always had a voracious - and adventurous - appetite。 From her idyllic farm-to-table childhood (homegrown tomatoes, thick slices of freshly baked bread) to the heights of her career as a food critic (white truffles washed down with Barolo straight from the bottle) Dorothy has never been shy about indulging her exquisite tastes - even when it lead to her plunging an ice pick into her lover's neck。

There is something inside Dorothy that makes her different from everybody else。 Something she's finally ready to confess。 But beware: her story just might make you wonder how your lover would taste sauted with shallots and mushrooms and deglazed with a little red wine。

'An unapologetic, rollicking satire of one woman's insatiable appetite。' Irish Times
'Thrilling and awful。' The Times
'One of the most uniquely fun and campily gory books in my recent memory。' New York Times
'Riotously funny and deliriously unhinged。' Refinery29

READERS ARE DEVOURING A CERTAIN HUNGER:

'Decadent, sleazy, visceral, disgusting。 I can't believe this is a first novel。'

' If a female Hannibal starred in Orange is the New Black, it would give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from this novel。 。。。 I could write pages about how much I loved this book but it would still not do it justice。 Just read it!'

'This was everything I wanted from a book。 Exciting, funny, gory, and most of all the absolutely exquisite writing。'

'I loved this book from beginning to end, it was dark, humorous and also made me a feel a little queasy in places!'

Obviously a well written book - a little highbrow for my trash taste

Great! And My vegetarianism gained reinforcement from reading this book!

I really wanted to like this。 A cannibal food critic is exactly my kind of premise but it just didn’t live up to my expectations。 A good chunk of this felt like a slog to get through。 The murders really felt like a footnote in the protagonists never ending pretentious monologues。 I don’t need a narrator to be likeable to enjoy a book but so much of this just felt like hammering the same point home。

best book ive ever read and really interesting not only is she a milf cannibal but she also taught me how to be a cannibal and the random facts throughout the book like when she said "a beef cow shits up to fifteen times a day, a total of sixty-five pounds of poop, the weight of the average nine-year-old child。" is extremely。。。。 fascinating LOL best book ive ever read and really interesting not only is she a milf cannibal but she also taught me how to be a cannibal and the random facts throughout the book like when she said "a beef cow shits up to fifteen times a day, a total of sixty-five pounds of poop, the weight of the average nine-year-old child。" is extremely。。。。 fascinating LOL 。。。more

Very long, slow start (struggled with the first 100 pages or so) but then managed the rest in one long session; the murders are graphic and brutal whilst the book also managed to conjure emotional attachment to the main character and even have some room to question the ethics of cannibalism。 Honestly a great book!!

Beautifully written, kept me on my toes throughout the novel。

“Nature abhors a vacuum; jurisprudence hates a violent woman。 We can forgive any number of men murdering their wives and girlfriends。 But we have a hard time extending the same compassion to women who kill their husbands and boyfriends, even though women have many more reasons to be driven to it。 Culture refuses to see violence in women, and the law nurtures a special loathing for violent women。 Unfettered violence, anger unleashed, the will to destroy, the need to undo—these acts run counter to “Nature abhors a vacuum; jurisprudence hates a violent woman。 We can forgive any number of men murdering their wives and girlfriends。 But we have a hard time extending the same compassion to women who kill their husbands and boyfriends, even though women have many more reasons to be driven to it。 Culture refuses to see violence in women, and the law nurtures a special loathing for violent women。 Unfettered violence, anger unleashed, the will to destroy, the need to undo—these acts run counter to everything we like to think we know about the feminine nature。 Yet women weren’t always the angels in the house, and angels weren’t always benevolent beings playing harps on the tops of trees。 We like to forget that men imprisoned women in the house and expected gratitude in return。”A Certain HungerChelsea G。 Summers 。。。more

If into deep frying a lover this book may be for you。 If not, you should perhaps choose another。 Too grotesque for my taste, but surely well written and imaginative。

5/5!!! I could not put this book down。 It was SO GOOD。 The narrator Dorthy is unhinged but also funny and has some truth to her words。 This whole book is satire but the very best。 There is not really a set plot but just her telling her story of she she ended up in prison。 I was hooked to her every word。 If you can’t take graphic bodily gore then don’t read this。 But if you love food, women, and murder then go right ahead。 This book ateeee。 Definitely on my top favs list。

I though i would love it and that it would became one of my favorites, but its just not good。The main character is one the most annoying characters i've ever read。 To me the way the author writes her it makes her seem a try hard。 She remainds me of one of those people who are fans of serial killers and think they're one too。 She doesn't seem like an actual psycopath。 It just looks like she's trying to trick you into beliving she's one and they're not doing a good job。Also the writting, while you I though i would love it and that it would became one of my favorites, but its just not good。The main character is one the most annoying characters i've ever read。 To me the way the author writes her it makes her seem a try hard。 She remainds me of one of those people who are fans of serial killers and think they're one too。 She doesn't seem like an actual psycopath。 It just looks like she's trying to trick you into beliving she's one and they're not doing a good job。Also the writting, while you can see that its pretentious on purpose, there are times when it takes it self too seriously and it just doesn't fit。 。。。more

Le fait qu’elle est une critique culinaire n’est pas une explication suffisante à mon goût。 Mais bon overall la voix narratrice est vraiment comique et j’ai eu bien du plaisir 。。。more

Dorothy Daniels recounts her life and relationships; but Dorothy is no ordinary food writer and as her story unfolds her dark truth is revealed。I loved this novel! Be warned the subject matter is very dark and a little gory (I loved it) and Dorothy's voice and her recounting the events that leads to each murder is fantastic。 A gripping and truly original novel that had me hooked from the first page。Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the noel in exchange for an honest review Dorothy Daniels recounts her life and relationships; but Dorothy is no ordinary food writer and as her story unfolds her dark truth is revealed。I loved this novel! I have so many words but I don’t feel like typing a lot so essentially it’s a book about meat。 You may think as a vegetarian who is usually repulsed by meat that I wouldn’t like it, but the structure of the book revolves around beautiful metaphors surrounding animals and humans。 I actually enjoyed the subject matter and found it interesting。 Cannibalism!! This book was a first but it was so well written and raw。 If you like crime and psychology definitely for you。

I finished this a few days ago and honestly it was a major slay。 So fun and witty and entertaining。 I support women’s right, but more importantly, I support women’s wrongs。

i didn't think it was possible to get bored reading about a milf cannibal murdering and eating certain body parts of her past lovers。 despite the gory descriptions about cooking and eating human flesh, i found it to be dull。 the biggest issue for me was the writing, i understand how it was intended to be pretentious to fit the main character, who is a self-absorbed, narcissistic psychopath。 however, the writing was just repetitive, overwritten, lots of Big Words were thrown around, and the story i didn't think it was possible to get bored reading about a milf cannibal murdering and eating certain body parts of her past lovers。 despite the gory descriptions about cooking and eating human flesh, i found it to be dull。 the biggest issue for me was the writing, i understand how it was intended to be pretentious to fit the main character, who is a self-absorbed, narcissistic psychopath。 however, the writing was just repetitive, overwritten, lots of Big Words were thrown around, and the story dragged on with unnecessary details。it gave an interesting outlook on female rage, womanhood, morality, gender, and sex (although unoriginal and didn't bring anything new to the table)。 。。。more
