Summary

Piranesi’s house is no ordinary building: its rooms are infinite, its corridors endless, its walls are lined with thousands upon thousands of statues, each one different from all the others。 Within the labyrinth of halls an ocean is imprisoned; waves thunder up staircases, rooms are flooded in an instant。 But Piranesi is not afraid; he understands the tides as he understands the pattern of the labyrinth itself。 He lives to explore the house。

There is one other person in the house—a man called The Other, who visits Piranesi twice a week and asks for help with research into A Great and Secret Knowledge。 But as Piranesi explores, evidence emerges of another person, and a terrible truth begins to unravel, revealing a world beyond the one Piranesi has always known。

Lírico, surrealista y mucha metáfora griega。 Buen exponente al mas estilo Dark Academia。

An excellent book。 Despite its overall gentle pace, I couldn't put it down; with the vivid, almost magical imagery, and steadily developing mystery, keeping you hooked into the world of The House。 The innocence of Piranesi juxtapositioned well against some of the other key characters。 An excellent book。 Despite its overall gentle pace, I couldn't put it down; with the vivid, almost magical imagery, and steadily developing mystery, keeping you hooked into the world of The House。 The innocence of Piranesi juxtapositioned well against some of the other key characters。 。。。more

Piranesi is the new literary love of my life。 It is profound and wonderful。 It reads like a classic - one which your soul has read many times before - one you might expect to find hidden away, with an inscription on the first page, gifting it to an ancestor of yours by an ancestor of theirs。 This book is nothing like what I expected but everything I had hoped!

Wow, just wow。This book is so bizarre and mysterious。 The story didn’t make sense to me for the first 100 pages or so but when it clicks, ohhh it is amazing! Easy 5/5 stars!

Part fantasy and part psychological thriller, the imagery was intense and the story creepy, I loved it so much。

I was honesy extremely bored with how the book start and thought that this would be a long read。。 but once it started to pick up, I couldn’t put it down again。 I still find the ending unsatisfactory, but definitely an intriguing book!

If you didn't like Starless Sea, do NOT read this book。 If, like me, you loved Starless Sea as a novel of place that immerses you in otherworldly beauty, you will love Piranesi。 If you didn't like Starless Sea, do NOT read this book。 If, like me, you loved Starless Sea as a novel of place that immerses you in otherworldly beauty, you will love Piranesi。 。。。more

This is a really, really, very good book。 How can I not love a story that begins by capitalizing all nouns and has an entire acknowledgements/notes page dedicated to the typeset? I think this struck all the right poetic, weird, magical elements I was craving and I really really really liked it。 Coming for your other books next, Susanna Clarke。 You can't escape me now。 This is a really, really, very good book。 How can I not love a story that begins by capitalizing all nouns and has an entire acknowledgements/notes page dedicated to the typeset? Really enjoyed this book and the process it took me through trying to understand it。 It's also difficult to put the experience reading this book into words but I'll try my best。From the beginning it feels like you're wandering lost in this strange labyrinth that looks cool and all but you have literally no idea where to go next。。。。 but then you find some breadcrumbs。 And these breadcrumbs make you realise hmm something strange is happening here。 Then you continue on and find more breadcrumbs and Really enjoyed this book and the process it took me through trying to understand it。 It's also difficult to put the experience reading this book into words but I'll try my best。From the beginning it feels like you're wandering lost in this strange labyrinth that looks cool and all but you have literally no idea where to go next。。。。 but then you find some breadcrumbs。 And these breadcrumbs make you realise hmm something strange is happening here。 Then you continue on and find more breadcrumbs and you're starting to get suspicious。 Then near the end of this trail of increasingly big breadcrumbs you find the biggest loaf of bread you've ever seen and you're mentally screaming WHAT THE FUCKKKKK and THEN behind that huge ass loaf of bread, just before the exit, you find some more tiny crumbs from a different loaf but you can't follow that trail before you're booted out the exit and are left to stare in silence at a blank wall for a bit。 。。。Thats the experience *jazz hands*。Not everything makes sense by the end, as some things would probably be ruined if an explanation was even attempted, but it's in a way that isn't frustrating and just leaves you with a lot of thoughts to mull over at odd moments hereafter。 Basically i enjoyed puzzling my way through this book; I thought it was well done and unique。 It leaves things more open to theorise about once you finish which I don't mind but also gives enough explanation to feel satisfying。I would probably say this book feels like the love child of American Gods and the movie Annihilation。 With the story telling/myth twisting vibe of American Gods and the whimsy/speculative feeling of Annihilation。 With less of the horror aspect though。Overall would recommend!! Though if you don't like stories that take explaining things as optional you might get a bit frustrated with this one as you really have no idea what why where who how in the first half and just have to trust the process。 。。。more

I was quite captivated by the world of Piranesi and even though I sort of figured out the end halfway through, it was still a beautiful journey。

No clue how someone could come up with a story as beautifully original as this one。。。 Such a joy。The Beauty of the House is immeasurable; its Kindness infinite。

Amazing book。 I'd call it a mix of Mythago Wood and some of Gaiman's less direct work。 Apparently I should read the Ladies of Grace Adieu because Jonathan Stange and now Piranesi are counted amongst my favorite books。 Amazing book。 I'd call it a mix of Mythago Wood and some of Gaiman's less direct work。 Apparently I should read the Ladies of Grace Adieu because Jonathan Stange and now Piranesi are counted amongst my favorite books。 。。。more

An easy read, and at the same time a complex and disturbing read。 The world building weaves itself into the plot in ways not anticipated, and while the ending resolves in a satisfactory way - at the same time there are so many questions left unanswered! The book and story are as mysterious as the labyrinth that the main character Piranesi inhabits。

FANTASTIC! The beginning is dull and intentionally confusing (reader: you dont need to pay attention to the descriptions of the architecture/layout unless you want to)。 But the mystery is very good, the story concept is awesome。 Piranesi is such a wholesome character <3 I want to read more stories inspired by artwork。 https://en。m。wikipedia。org/wiki/Imagi。。。 FANTASTIC! What the heck did I just read…How does this book have so many glowing reviews? Am I a total idiot? Do I not understand?Regardless, I so desperately wanted to DNF this one, but with it only being 250-some-odd pages, I refused。 The concept of this story is so, so interesting and was just so poorly executed。 Ideas were all over he place and I felt like there was no backbone I could grasp into。 So happy I’m done with this one。

Creative, inventive, intriguing, with a great mystery that captured me immediately and gradually unspooled in a most satisfying way。

。。。more

There is something haunting and surreal in the way this book affects the reader。 It is both remarkable and bizarre, but definitely also a piece of literature that will continue to confuse and impress many people。 I don't quite know what I feel about it, but I know how the book made me feel and the startling way in which it was written was as though it came from a mind from another world entirely。 I will be thinking about this book for a very long time now that I've read it。 There is something haunting and surreal in the way this book affects the reader。 It is both remarkable and bizarre, but definitely also a piece of literature that will continue to confuse and impress many people。 I don't quite know what I feel about it, but I know how the book made me feel and the startling way in which it was written was as though it came from a mind from another world entirely。 I will be thinking about this book for a very long time now that I've read it。 。。。more

the two highlights of this book was when a bird was attacking piranesi he attacked it back and when asked about what the other people say piranesi just said “oh they don’t say much really。 they’re dead。” funny man

kinda flipflopping between 3 and 4 stars but I'm having an ok day so! 👍this book was difficult for me to get into, the writing style initially turned me off (the random capital letters more so than the prose, which was quite pleasant) and I just had some issues with getting a foothold in the world。 it started to grow on me though and by the time I was about a quarter through I was very intrigued by the world and the first whiffs of the mystery, and I was curious to see where it was going。 in the kinda flipflopping between 3 and 4 stars but I'm having an ok day so! 👍this book was difficult for me to get into, the writing style initially turned me off (the random capital letters more so than the prose, which was quite pleasant) and I just had some issues with getting a foothold in the world。 it started to grow on me though and by the time I was about a quarter through I was very intrigued by the world and the first whiffs of the mystery, and I was curious to see where it was going。 in the end it didn't really turn out in a way I found entirely satisfying, but that's just entirely a taste thing。 I just kept thinking throughout the last act that I would have preferred things a different way。it's a tricky book to describe and review。 it's more about the journey than the destination I think, and it was a very interesting journey! 。。。more

this book was so highly confusing and so thoroughly unenjoyable for the majority of it because i just had NO idea what was happening。 i felt like there were so many things i was missing, so many that were going way over my head and i felt stupid and angry at the same time, but because i’m stubborn i kept going。 the ending was somewhat satisfactory and it explained a lot in a metaphysical type of way, but man this was so cryptic。
