Drop it Rocket is a cute book which introduces words, friendship, and some conflict resolution to a new reader。 Rocket goes about finding objects to help put words on the word tree。 The illustrations are colorful and cute。 They display emotion and can help the child to interrupt what is going on even if they are not independent readers。

Rocket has to drop various items that they are hanging on their word tree。 But he doesn't want to drop the boot。 I don't really get it。 Rocket has to drop various items that they are hanging on their word tree。 But he doesn't want to drop the boot。 I don't really get it。 。。。more

I thought that this was a cute book。 This is a great book for beginner readers to read。 The words are not too hard and do repeat which is what beginner readers need。 This is also an AR book for anyone who might want to know。 I would recommend this book to others。

Noe wanted a short piece before he went to bed。 While geared for the new reader, it is a book with a very simple storyline。 Looking to identify words, Rocket and his friend the little bird go in search of items for their word tree。 Rocket locates a number of items, none of them words, and is forced to drop them。 However, one such item is too good to drop。。。 unless there's a good prize for doing so。 Neo will tackle more books in the series (and something harder) soon, though he did like the pictu Noe wanted a short piece before he went to bed。 While geared for the new reader, it is a book with a very simple storyline。 Looking to identify words, Rocket and his friend the little bird go in search of items for their word tree。 Rocket locates a number of items, none of them words, and is forced to drop them。 However, one such item is too good to drop。。。 unless there's a good prize for doing so。 Neo will tackle more books in the series (and something harder) soon, though he did like the pictures and the easy to identify words in this one。 。。。more

On the first reading, I didn't like this book。Why would a dog give up a perfect boot for a book? (Dogs don't read。 Nooks likewise。 What good to a nook is a hook cook book?) Then on the second reading I understood that this is a dog who can and likes to read。 Silly, but at least the story makes sense, and my 3-yr-old pointed out that the word OWL is missing from the word tree at the back so I brought my pens and we added it。 On the first reading, I didn't like this book。Why would a dog give up a perfect boot for a book? This is a fantastic beginning reader! Rocket will not drop the boot for anything - until he is offered a book。 Tad Hills knows how to make librarians like his stories! You can’t go wrong with that。

Author: Tad Hills Illustrator: Genre: Beginning ReaderTheme(s): Animals, Following Rules Opening line/sentence: Rocket and the little yellow bird love words。Brief Book Summary: This book is your basic beginning reader to teach the child how to read。 This book introduces to the child new words, but not many at a time, and the words are big enough for the student to read。 This book talks about a dog who doesn’t like to drop anything, and he will drop things for a new item。 Professional Recommendation/Review #1: Kara Dean (Booklist) Cute doggie Rocket and the little yellow bird who teaches him are looking for words to add to their word tree。 Rocket finds a leaf, a hat, and a star, and upon the command to Drop  it, Rocket, the good boy drops the item, which then becomes a word upon their tree。 The internal rhyme of the repeated phrase Drop it, Rocket establishes a pleasing cadence。 But then Rocket finds a red boot, and he does not want to drop it。 The bird and Rocket s friends try to entice him to relinquish the boot by offering other items in exchange。 Owl finally comes up with a winner: a book。 Rocket drops the boot, and the friends settle down around him to read。 The final image is the word tree with brand new words on it, which the reader will have become familiar with during the course of the story。 Children familiar with Rocket from his picture-book adventures will be happy to see him at the early reader level, ready to take this linguistic journey with them。 Preschool-Grade 1 (PUBLISHER: Random House 32 pp。 $3。99。, PUBLISHED: 2014)Professional Recommendation/Review #2: Vicki Foote (Children's Literature) Rocket, a small dog, and his friend, a little yellow bird, love words, so they work together to put words on a word tree。 Rocket finds things, such as a leaf, and the bird tells him to drop it。 When he does, the bird tells Rocket that he is a good dog, and they put the word on the word tree。 Rocket finds a hat and a star and they add those words to their tree。 When Rocket finds a red boot, he likes the boot and refuses to drop it。 The bird asks Rocket if he will drop the boot in exchange for a ball。 When Rocket still won t drop the ball, the bird offers him a stick or a sock。 Then Owl finds a book for Rocket, and he drops the boot。 Rocket is a good dog again, and the word tree has all the words that they found。 This book is on Step 1 of five reading levels in the Ready to Read: Step into Reading series。 The suggested reading level is for preschool and kindergarten children。 It contains big type, easy words, rhythm, and picture clues。 The simple and cute illustrations and the repetition of words should be helpful to children who are learning to read a basic word vocabulary。 The amusing story and the animal characters make it entertaining as well。 This book would be useful for parents who are teaching their children to read, and it would be a good resource for schools。 2014, Schwartz & Wade/Random House,, $3。99。 Ages 4 to 7。 (PUBLISHER: Schwartz & Wade books (New York:), PUBLISHED: [2014]) Response to Two Professional Reviews: These two reviews are written very well。 Both of these reviews sum up what takes place throughout the book and how it happens。 Both of the reviews talk about how Rocket does not like to drop items。 Evaluation of Literary Elements: This book is a very good beginning reader for the students。 This book introduces new words, but as it introduces the new words it does it in a way that the students will understand。 This book also has a big font making it easier for the students to read。 Consideration of Instructional Application: I would use this book in my classroom to introduce to students how to read。 I would use this book to teach the students how a book is supposed to work, that you read a book from left to right。 。。。more
