Summary

It is the children who see - and feel - what made the small town of Derry so horribly different。 In the storm drains, in the sewers, IT lurks, taking on the shape of every nightmare, each one's deepest dread。 Sometimes IT reaches up, seizing, tearing, killing。。。

Time passes and the children grow up, move away and forget。 Until they are called back, once more to confront IT as it sirs and coils in the sullen depths of their memories, reaching up again to make their past nightmares a terrible present reality。

Very Boring and weird

I know I won't make any friends here。。。 but I hated this book。 I listened to the audiobook because I actually have things to do and can't sit around reading this monolith of horror-mystery。 I really have to say I think King's fans confuse abundant, practically infinite detail with quality。 They are not the same! Overuse of detail is a crutch of weak writers。 I fully expected King to have a character read an entire newspaper aloud just to fill time and add to the "atmosphere" of the town。 I have I know I won't make any friends here。。。 but I hated this book。 I listened to the audiobook because I actually have things to do and can't sit around reading this monolith of horror-mystery。 I really have to say I think King's fans confuse abundant, practically infinite detail with quality。 They are not the same! Overuse of detail is a crutch of weak writers。 I fully expected King to have a character read an entire newspaper aloud just to fill time and add to the "atmosphere" of the town。 I have struggled with other books (like Lord of the Rings) that rely on detail and worldbuilding to create a "real" environment, and this was no different。 I grew up in a small town that has grown over time。。。 I don't need a 45 minute cab ride about which buildings have been knocked down。 The dialogue is awful。 I was so rarely satisfied by characters interactions that I grew to hate everyone。 None of the frightening elements frightened me。 I am only giving this two stars because King's command of metaphor and representation of "personal demons" is strong。 Skip this and read something good。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 El libro está súper bien pero luego el final es un poco confuso。。。y raro。 Hay una escena en la que para que estén unidos tienen que perder todos la virginidad con la chica, y esa parte sobra totalmente, en mi opinión ;-; No se, tienen once años solo, es un poco pedófilo。 Pero el resto del libro es súper genial, te engancha。

Although this book is so long, it is very good。 There is some boring and confusing parts, but that does not take away from the amazing horror aspect that this book brings! Overall, I definitely enjoyed both the book and movie versions of IT!!

This one was hard to get through in the allotted library loan period。 Not because of the writing - It was a real page turner - but just because of the length。 At nearly 1,200 pages, this one’s a brick。 But then again, it’s really two books in one。 That won’t be a surprise。 Anyone who has seen the movies or the miniseries (or read the book jacket) knows the tale is broken into two time periods - telling the tale of the group of friends battling the monster both as kids and again as adults。 That a This one was hard to get through in the allotted library loan period。 Not because of the writing - It was a real page turner - but just because of the length。 At nearly 1,200 pages, this one’s a brick。 But then again, it’s really two books in one。 That won’t be a surprise。 Anyone who has seen the movies or the miniseries (or read the book jacket) knows the tale is broken into two time periods - telling the tale of the group of friends battling the monster both as kids and again as adults。 That approach gives King a lot of fodder to work with in terms of exploring questions about what it means to be a kid vs what it mean to be adult。 Themes about what our childhoods might mean to us as we get older make for some interesting passages - especially since it’s all interwoven with the usual fun scares and tight action that King is so good at。 I see why this one rates so highly among his works。 Still, I can’t give it a perfect score as there were certainly stretches - usually about the long history of the monster on the town - that could have been easily cut back or pruned entirely to help improve the flow of the main narrative。 Still, despite the fact I sometimes found myself wanting to skip ahead, mostly I was just invested in this one from start to finish。 。。。more

BRILLIANT!This was my introduction to Steven king and it was a masterpiece。 I read it over the course of 12 days and it is the best book I have picked up (so far)。 The suspense and little details are amazing。 All this with the detailed descriptions makes a great novel。 It got progressively less suspenseful as the book went on but this is no problem at all。 Great book

This book is one of my favorites from Stephen King。 Not much of a horror fan, but I enjoyed, a lot。I like how the story started and how it continued and hot it described different time periods with different incidents with connections to each other and how he combined those different times with each other by a very tiny detail and then make it grow, so the reader can see the connection and make up his own imaginations while reading。 The horror story is not actually I am interested in this book, This book is one of my favorites from Stephen King。 Not much of a horror fan, but I enjoyed, a lot。I like how the story started and how it continued and hot it described different time periods with different incidents with connections to each other and how he combined those different times with each other by a very tiny detail and then make it grow, so the reader can see the connection and make up his own imaginations while reading。 The horror story is not actually I am interested in this book, but the friendship of the gang。 How they cared and respected and looked after each other。 How much they loved each other。 How they felt about each other and how much they sometimes struggled because of that。 There are too much sex as per my perspective。 Agree that there are scenarios where the story needed it but not all the times。 The mind of a child and the ghosts who live inside。 The control they have, the manipulation and everything related used in their best versions to build the story。 I really like that about this book。 Stephen King always finds the inner souls of us and our inner fears and how they drive us。 。。。more

Favorite Stephen king book so far。 Obviously this book is about the how the clown haunts the town but there’s a lot more emotion than I thought they’d be。 I think what drew me to this book was the friendship between the kids in the book and also the loss and loneliness that they all felt in their lives。 What I love about Stephen king is the world building he does and you really get to see into the lives of all the characters in the town。 I also loved how the story of the kids in the 1950s was to Favorite Stephen king book so far。 Obviously this book is about the how the clown haunts the town but there’s a lot more emotion than I thought they’d be。 I think what drew me to this book was the friendship between the kids in the book and also the loss and loneliness that they all felt in their lives。 What I love about Stephen king is the world building he does and you really get to see into the lives of all the characters in the town。 I also loved how the story of the kids in the 1950s was told parallel to them as adults in the 1980s。 。。。more

It accomplishes something that is really difficult and beautiful。 It creates a living creature, Derry itself, and you feel like you know the city and the charactrs。 The way it's written almost melts togheter the past and the present in a way that makes perfect sense with the themes of the novel。 The ending is good and even that scene (you know what im talking about) fits the context。I give it only 4 stars cause it's a little bloated in the middle and i think some of the scenes that are supposedl It accomplishes something that is really difficult and beautiful。 It creates a living creature, Derry itself, and you feel like you know the city and the charactrs。 The way it's written almost melts togheter the past and the present in a way that makes perfect sense with the themes of the novel。 The ending is good and even that scene (you know what im talking about) fits the context。I give it only 4 stars cause it's a little bloated in the middle and i think some of the scenes that are supposedly scary are not very effective。 How can i be scared if, in the most dramatic moments, someone insults It with a rhyme and that works? FINALLY! Dearie me, I thought I would never rid myself of this book。 Don't get me wrong, the book wasn't terrible, however it dragged。 It really dragged。 There were so many things that were included that absolutely did not need to be there as it contributed next to nothing。 I found myself moving ahead just to see when King would stop wasting my time。 It became especially frustrating at the end。 So much of the anticipation was cut through with long chapters about the weather in Derry。 I don't giv FINALLY! I want to see them face IT! And honestly, after reading how the confrontation went down, I see why he kept adding scenes about the weather。 The confrontation was extremely lame。 Embarrassingly so。 I was hoping it would be better than the movie where they just, shout at It until It disappears, but。。。somehow this felt even more lame。 Which was disappointing because there were some points in the book that genuinely gave me the creeps, parts that had me seeing scary shapes in the dark。 But alas, when I finished the book I felt ridiculous for ever being scared。 That being said, as a whole the book was well written。 I felt attached to the characters。 I was emotionally invested。 Honestly, if it wasn't for the ending I would've given it a solid 4 (can't give it a 5 because truly, why was he dragging it out so much? He could've cut 300 pages)。 。。。more

This was the perfect creepy read for me。 Two of my biggest fears are clowns and spiders and so Mr King has really hit me where it hurts yet again。I have loved reading this book, even with it incorporating my deepest fears because it came over as creepy rather than terrifying。 Pennywise or IT really is the scariest damn thing, and yet the story even with the memory loss flows amazingly between the present day and 27 years previously。The only only only thing I'm not a fan of is how the children fi This was the perfect creepy read for me。 Two of my biggest fears are clowns and spiders and so Mr King has really hit me where it hurts yet again。I have loved reading this book, even with it incorporating my deepest fears because it came over as creepy rather than terrifying。 Pennywise or IT really is the scariest damn thing, and yet the story even with the memory loss flows amazingly between the present day and 27 years previously。The only only only thing I'm not a fan of is how the children find their way back。 If you've read the book you know what I mean。 。。。more

The fact that it took me 4 years to read this speaks for itself。 The beginning of the book was great, but then there's a 600+ page lull that I struggled to get through。 I found that the detail was lacking in some places and too much in others。 There were moments where the mundane detail was a bit excessive, and then there were moments that were so disturbing I had to skip ahead until the scene was over。 I consider myself a fan of Stephen King and was disappointed in how lackluster this book was。 The fact that it took me 4 years to read this speaks for itself。 The beginning of the book was great, but then there's a 600+ page lull that I struggled to get through。 I found that the detail was lacking in some places and too much in others。 There were moments where the mundane detail was a bit excessive, and then there were moments that were so disturbing I had to skip ahead until the scene was over。 I consider myself a fan of Stephen King and was disappointed in how lackluster this book was。 I personally feel like if you want to get the story of It without sitting through an 1100 page book, that the movie remakes did a wonderful job of capturing the meat and potatoes of the story。 。。。more
