What a toxic relationship lol

I would like to say a thank you to the publisher (or whoever) for making this book the maximum level of floppiness。 Okay, anyways。 I somehow thought this book was a high fantasy novel。。。 but if you are like me and have been living under a rock, it is NOT that。 It is a romance story set in 18th century Scotland with lots of action during a time of unrest。 It is VERY character-driven and at times, pretty slow-paced so I can see how this series wouldn't be for everyone。 The romantic plot is for sur I would like to say a thank you to the publisher (or whoever) for making this book the maximum level of floppiness。 Okay, anyways。 I somehow thought this book was a high fantasy novel。。。 but if you are like me and have been living under a rock, it is NOT that。 It is a romance story set in 18th century Scotland with lots of action during a time of unrest。 It is VERY character-driven and at times, pretty slow-paced so I can see how this series wouldn't be for everyone。 The romantic plot is for sure what kept me engaged the most but I think I'm most eager to see our FMC is going to handle her unique predicament in the next novel。 I will say there are some tough scenes to read in terms of content so I do recommend checking trigger warnings (and maybe skipping part of chapter 39)。 Overall, I enjoyed the first installment of the series and cannot wait to continue。 England 1945, Claire finally reunited with her husband after serving as a combat nurse in ght war。 While on their second honeymoon off the coast of England, she somehow steps through time and finds herself in 1743 Scotland。 Thought to be an English spy, she finds herself in questionable company unsure of who to trust and what to do。 She finds herself linked to one James Fraser, a Scottish warrior, and together they find themselves in more than one precarious situations。 Not only will Claire question her safety, she will also question her duty, her future, and her love。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book。 As expected because I love the show。 However, it was to times a bit sad that I knew what was going to happen (my fault)…Let’s talk about the gay representation。 Apparently all gay men are perverts that rape and assault boys and other men。 Something I hadn’t noticed when I watched the tv show。 Why hadn’t they left that out of the tv show? I also hope that the author has apologised for her very problematic lgbtq+ rep。 I’m mad:// I’m debating whether this book only deserves 3 s I enjoyed this book。 As expected because I love the show。 However, it was to times a bit sad that I knew what was going to happen (my fault)…Let’s talk about the gay representation。 Apparently all gay men are perverts that rape and assault boys and other men。 Something I hadn’t noticed when I watched the tv show。 Why hadn’t they left that out of the tv show? Ja, dat is ie。 。。。more

eponymous sentence:p10: "It only means 'Englishman,' after all, or at worst, 'outlander,' and we're all of that。"This is definitely not up my alley, but I'm happy to give the whole lot a shot。 I suspect the sequels are going to wreak havoc on my reading momentum like this one did, though。 And man, this one's thick as they come。 eponymous sentence:p10: "It only means 'Englishman,' after all, or at worst, 'outlander,' and we're all of that。"This is definitely not up my alley, but I'm happy to give the whole lot a shot。 I suspect the sequels are going to wreak havoc on my reading momentum like this one did, though。 And man, this one's thick as they come。 。。。more

The story line is good, don’t get me wrong。 But not nearly good enough to make up for the extremely violent, graphic and incessant sex scenes。 I read this book based off a recommendation from an old coworker so I just went into this blind and expecting a good story。 If I would have known how raunchy this was I would have never wasted so much time reading it。 Don’t think I’ll be reading any of the others。

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the book。 But it was not an easy read。 It took some time to get used to the language。 I’ve been reading a lot of easy quick reads lately so maybe the transition to this series was a little rushed 😂 Would recommended reading the books before/along with watching the series。 That is what I am doing and you get so much more background and understanding of what’s going on in the show。

Probably one of my favourite books I’ve ever read。

There are so many levels to this book and so much detail。 A heart wrenching end but looking forward to reading the rest of the series。Excellently written。

Even though it took me forever and a day to read this, (life happens), I thoroughly enjoyed it。 I’m a huge fan of the show and bought the books to keep me occupied between seasons。 I love that the show follows closely to the book, but at the same time there are a few nuggets that were kept out that just made the book that much better。

Warning: If you are a Gabaldon/Claire fan, you might want to skip my review。I chose to read this book because I do enjoy Susanna Kearsley's books, and it is often said that her books are similar to Gabaldon's。 They both have women as the main character。 They both have stories where that woman travels back to the 1700's。 END OF COMPARISON。 Beyond that, there is no comparison。 In my opinion, Kearsley is a significantly better author。I will say that I enjoyed Gabaldon's sense of humor; there were s Warning: If you are a Gabaldon/Claire fan, you might want to skip my review。I chose to read this book because I do enjoy Susanna Kearsley's books, and it is often said that her books are similar to Gabaldon's。 They both have women as the main character。 They both have stories where that woman travels back to the 1700's。 END OF COMPARISON。 Beyond that, there is no comparison。 In my opinion, Kearsley is a significantly better author。I will say that I enjoyed Gabaldon's sense of humor; there were several places in the book where I laughed out loud。 I did enjoy her writing style。 I did like Jamie, and Murtagh, for sure。 A lot of the other characters were enjoyable, too。But Claire? I got so mad at her by 2/3 through the book that I wanted to climb in the book, take the strap from Jamie and beat the living daylights out of Claire myself! Then I wanted to beat the author for coming up with such a horrible character! And wanted to throw the book across the room and bounce it off a wall! But I couldn't; it was borrowed from the library。 I cannot remember when I have ever been so angry with a character in a book。When Jamie told her to stay away from Geillis AND gave her reasons for his direction, she STILL went there and endangered a whole lot of people AGAIN! (Yeah, I'm still mad。) It was just too many times that she was stubborn-minded herself; when she decided to take matters into her own hands, she always endangered other people! She reminds me of the American tourists who go overseas and treat the people who live there as though they are stupid and second class, but worse。 I believe she should have known better, having been all over the world with her uncle。 I had to put the book down and walk away after that scene。 If she'd gotten the same as Geillis did, it would have served her right!Thankfully, the last part of the book had her doing things to redeem herself, even though she was STILL taking matters into her own hands and doing things she ought not to do there, so I didn't stay quite as angry with her, but it wasn't enough for me to want to read any more about her。 So, that's the end of this series for me。Also, although I am not a prude and I can get through a sex scene here and there, at one point in the book, there's a sex scene every 3-5 pages; one page had two scenes! Are we, as 20th and 21st century women, that desperate that we need to read sex scenes that many times in one book? At one point, Jamie is called a "bloody rutting bastard", and I came to the point that I agreed with that character。 Good grief! I realize that 23yo men can be pretty randy, but it just got to be too much。Would I read this book again? No。 I will admit there were enjoyable parts, but not enough to make me read it again。 Would I recommend it? No, I would highly recommend that the person asking read Susanna Kearsley instead。 。。。more

I was intrigued by the trailers of the TV show to read the books。 I really enjoyed the storyline, however, I gave it a three-star because I feel the sex scenes were unnecessary I won't be reading the rest of the series due to it。 I was intrigued by the trailers of the TV show to read the books。 I really enjoyed the storyline, however, I gave it a three-star because I feel the sex scenes were unnecessary I won't be reading the rest of the series due to it。 。。。more

Far from perfect, but still enjoyable as all get out。 Especially when travel is so challenging these days, this makes for a nice transportive read that you can just sink into。

Very very good。 I loved this book though warning it can。 E slow if this isn’t a genre you are accustomed to。 I highly recommend。

Robert Kirkaldie

Couldn’t get past the violence。 I just couldn’t fall in love with the characters and root for them after the intense moments of their relationship。 I understand it was historically accurate/relative to Scotland and Scottish culture。 But I just can’t enjoy it/continue reading。

Katina

I love the tv series bit the book left me kinda bored

Kelly Is Brighid

I was misled; only a violent-romance novel。 Time travel was mentioned once, and poorly written。 Just because they rode horses doesn’t make it a Western。 In this instance the video was better。DNF 53%

Alicia Bradley

Really great! Tracked along with the TV show。 A little long and slow。

I'm not crazy about it。Never getting these days back。 I have watched the show and the show is as faithful as a show can be。 But yeah, I wasn't crazy about the show and I'm not crazy about the books either。 It's just not my thing。 But I'm a completionist so I'm going to finish this whole series and the spin-off books, too。 Damn it。 I'm not crazy about it。Never getting these days back。 I have watched the show and the show is as faithful as a show can be。 But yeah, I wasn't crazy about the show and I'm not crazy about the books either。 It's just not my thing。 But I'm a completionist so I'm going to finish this whole series and the spin-off books, too。 Damn it。 。。。more

Es un libro que me resistía a leer y que me ha enganchado desde la primera página, no se hace aburrido cuando se pone a explicar con detalles sobre hierbas o como curar ciertas heridas, ha sido un gran descubrimiento y posiblemente siga con la saga

I never thought I would love a historical romance so much。 It was so long and not much was happening but still I was so gripped, I could not stop reading。 The writing was absolutely perfect and the characters felt so real。 I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series!
