The Vegetarian
meets Heathers in this darkly funny, seductively strange novel from the acclaimed author of 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl

We were just these innocent girls in the night trying to make something beautiful。 We nearly died。 We very nearly did, didn't we?

Samantha Heather Mackey couldn't be more of an outsider in her small, highly selective MFA program at New England's Warren University。 A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort--a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other Bunny, and seem to move and speak as one。

But everything changes when Samantha receives an invitation to the Bunnies' fabled Smut Salon, and finds herself inexplicably drawn to their front door--ditching her only friend, Ava, in the process。 As Samantha plunges deeper and deeper into the Bunnies' sinister yet saccharine world, beginning to take part in the ritualistic off-campus Workshop where they conjure their monstrous creations, the edges of reality begin to blur。 Soon, her friendships with Ava and the Bunnies will be brought into deadly collision。

The spellbinding new novel from one of our most fearless chroniclers of the female experience, Bunny is a down-the-rabbit-hole tale of loneliness and belonging, friendship and desire, and the fantastic and terrible power of the imagination。

This book was a trip。 I kind of felt like I was losing my mind in the middle of it, but in a very entertaining way。

This is one of those books where you immediately google “bunny novel EXPLAINED” and read dozens and dozens of interpretations from other people about what the hell was going on and what the heck happened once you slam the book shut。 It was like the best fever dream。 It was like the best nightmare, wrapped in velvet and pink and sugar。

Wow。。。 how do I even begin to describe this book? That was quite an experience, at first I thought with all the references and the gorgeous writing, that I knew where this was going。 To say the least, I didn’t know where it was going。

absolutely bananas bonkers weird。 visceral imagery。 honestly not sure what i think but i was engrossed (and a little grossed) and tore through the climax so i think its a Liked It/5

Madison Beardslee

This is very interpretational which I loved。 The concept and characters were also very interpretable。 I had to research more after reading, but definitely think that were some loose ends I would’ve liked to be brought together。

I have just finished this book and still have no idea what it is about。 But I read in in two days and loved every bit of it。 I really don’t know if it is supposed to be a fantasy novel or if all of the characters were constantly on drugs or had permanent hallucinations lol。 Anyway, if you like stories that make no sense and play with your mind you will love this。

This book was not for me。 I wouldn’t say that I hate it, but I definitely didn’t love it, and found myself avoiding reading it and had to force myself into finishing it。 It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly I didn’t like because it’s hard to pinpoint what this book is even about。 It seems to have a lot of good reviews, so maybe there is something great that is just going over my head, but I found it confusing, annoying at times, and frustrating。 While I do enjoy strange and experimental writing (H This book was not for me。 I wouldn’t say that I hate it, but I definitely didn’t love it, and found myself avoiding reading it and had to force myself into finishing it。 It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly I didn’t like because it’s hard to pinpoint what this book is even about。 It seems to have a lot of good reviews, so maybe there is something great that is just going over my head, but I found it confusing, annoying at times, and frustrating。 While I do enjoy strange and experimental writing (House of Leaves, for example, is one of my favorite books), this almost felt like it was strange and experimental just for the sake of being strange and experimental。 The weird has to have a payoff, and I just didn’t get that。 It does seem like a lot of people like it, so if you’re interested, don’t let this sway you away from reading it, but if you came for the “The Secret History meets Jennifer’s Body” comparisons I keep seeing, I wouldn’t expect too much。 。。。more

WOW。 This book was something else。 Dark, twisted and deeply strange - I loved every moment of it。 The writing style is unique and, despite it’s strangeness, somewhat beautiful。 Half the time I had no idea whether what was going on was real or a complete fabrication of Samantha’s own imaging, which made it all the creepier。 The satire was on point and darkly humorous。 There is also an ambiguity to this book which I enjoyed but, perhaps because of this, the plot is slightly insubstantial and fract WOW。 This book was something else。 Dark, twisted and deeply strange - I loved every moment of it。 The writing style is unique and, despite it’s strangeness, somewhat beautiful。 Half the time I had no idea whether what was going on was real or a complete fabrication of Samantha’s own imaging, which made it all the creepier。 The satire was on point and darkly humorous。 There is also an ambiguity to this book which I enjoyed but, perhaps because of this, the plot is slightly insubstantial and fractured。 A reading experience that truly felt like going down the rabbit hole… 。。。more

I honestly had very high hopes for this book, alas I was disappointed。 I can’t deny that there were some iconic moments in this book, specifically, the orchid eating scene and the whole bunny boy Frankenstein workshop/ axe murder ritual。

Wow。

4。5⭐️ I loved this book。 I love a horror book that just goes absolutely crazy & has so many wtf moments。 BUT Bunny has all of that plus a lot of heart and sadness at the core of the story。 This book is not going to be for everyone but it was for me! Also the audiobook was incredible, the narrator did an excellent job of differentiating all the characters。

Beth

Ummmm。 What did I just read? I loved the writing and humor, but too dark for me。

alice in wonderland meets 80’s slasher movie meets mean girls meets melanie martinezthis book felt like a black mirror episode, im observing and see what’s happening but so many questions left unanswered somewhere between 3,5-4⭐️ (leaning more to 4) overall i did really enjoy this book though, it was a very fun read, maybe better second read?
