The writing was nice, and very digestible。 What makes this book a worth it read is the family’s turn to complete disgust of Gregor, a reflection on human selfishness。 If you think your life is bad try comparing yourself to Gregor’s。

When I was reading, in some moments I caught myself thinkink about the absurdity which is the book filled with。 It was interesting to read it, but as I have finished it, I am way more confused than happy about reading it。

Pretty abstract, and took some time to mull over this one。 While the story is simple, the complexity of the emotions of all the involved characters are open to so many interpretations。

Expected more, it really is up to the reader whether they want to dig deep into understanding the themes and metaphors or not。

Yeah I get it, this is a classic, and it’s a metaphor/ allegory/ symbolic story etc etcFact is that reading it was a solid ‘meh’ experience for me。At first I was going to rate it higher because it’s really old, but then I realised that White Fang is a decade older so that just seems like a poor excuse…

No longer a productive member of a capitalist society, Gregor is proven to be an expendable asset to the workforce and isolated by his family。- Could definitely be an allegory for the alienation of marginalized communities from the workforce- or maybe the futility of (and mindlessness behind) modern activism and charity:I was most interested by Grete and Mrs。 Samsa。 They really showed that there is a limit to sympathy。 Grete took on a charitable role in which she fed and cleaned up after Gregor。 No longer a productive member of a capitalist society, Gregor is proven to be an expendable asset to the workforce and isolated by his family。- Could definitely be an allegory for the alienation of marginalized communities from the workforce- or maybe the futility of (and mindlessness behind) modern activism and charity:I was most interested by Grete and Mrs。 Samsa。 They really showed that there is a limit to sympathy。 Grete took on a charitable role in which she fed and cleaned up after Gregor。 But there was this disconnect between what she thought would help him and what he actually wanted。 This phenomenon reminded me of how activism often mishears the needs of marginalized communities and insists upon different courses of action (i。e。 superficial fixes to larger issues at play)。 Mrs。 Samsa pitied Gregor in a way that reminded me of how we treat homeless people。 She would express her pity so openly, yet would run in the opposite direction and scream in disgust upon the sight of him。 Despite people’s charity, we won’t hesitate to antagonize and dehumanize those subject to poverty。 In the end, Grete and Mrs。 Samsa were relieved to see him gone。 Regardless of how much effort they put into pitying him or feeding him… regardless of how much they would insist that they still loved him… Gregor was merely a burden to their livelihood。 。。。more

I am not one who delves into allegory。 I’m of the opinion that if you have something to say, you don’t cover it in obscurity and hope that someone divines its proper meaning。 But then where would that leave all the literature professors of the world? Even so, I enjoyed this book to the extent that I can enjoy that which is morose and depressing。 And, as I gather, this story didn’t garner much appreciation while Kafka was alive, so it seems that its surrealism has been posthumously thrust into th I am not one who delves into allegory。 I’m of the opinion that if you have something to say, you don’t cover it in obscurity and hope that someone divines its proper meaning。 But then where would that leave all the literature professors of the world? This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。

Well, I ended the year with this, an appropriate title, although I changed in a totally opposite sense。 I loved this book from the standpoint of how believable this monstrous change was to Gregor, his family and, to me, as the reader。

Metamorphosis is a short but powerful read。 On the surface, the novel appears to be about a man who is slowly transforming into a bug-like creature, but I believe the real character of this tale was his sister, Grete。 When the narrative begins, she is a carefree teen with little sense of responsibility, but when her brother undergoes an unwelcome shift, everything in her life changes。 She is now burdened by his brother's and mother's obligations, and she is slowly changing and maturing into a fi Metamorphosis is a short but powerful read。 On the surface, the novel appears to be about a man who is slowly transforming into a bug-like creature, but I believe the real character of this tale was his sister, Grete。 When the narrative begins, she is a carefree teen with little sense of responsibility, but when her brother undergoes an unwelcome shift, everything in her life changes。 She is now burdened by his brother's and mother's obligations, and she is slowly changing and maturing into a fine young woman as a result。 The novels' other themes included extreme authority (boss/clerk), existential crisis (family began regretting their son), the hardship a solitary earner confronts, and even dishonor when he is no longer valuable to his family。 Kafka skillfully demonstrated the genuine facet of society in this very short tale, even the ones you call family will not bear the sight of you once you become a burden on them, one of the scariest aspects of working for a middle-class family。 If I were to summarise this work in a single statement, it would be "frightening but the truly terrible depiction of family。" 。。。more

This book is just odd。 Kafka is odd。 Maybe a better term would be misunderstood or a genius。 In any case, I’m just perplexed by the absurdity of The Metamorphosis。 Like many others, I’m not entirely sure what the point of the book is, but maybe that’s up for interpretation。Perhaps it’s how work has consumed our everyday lives in capitalistic society that even after we turn into a bug, our first thought is to still go to work。 Maybe it’s a reflection of generational gaps and how the more we chan This book is just odd。 Kafka is odd。 Maybe a better term would be misunderstood or a genius。 In any case, I’m just perplexed by the absurdity of The Metamorphosis。 Like many others, I’m not entirely sure what the point of the book is, but maybe that’s up for interpretation。Perhaps it’s how work has consumed our everyday lives in capitalistic society that even after we turn into a bug, our first thought is to still go to work。 Maybe it’s a reflection of generational gaps and how the more we change, the more distant we may become from our families and the less they will accept us (also a chance this is representative of mental health illnesses or people changing genders or having nontraditional forms of love)。 Or it could be representative of how quickly our lot in the world changes and that those that depend on us may change their minds all of a sudden…In any case, I’m probably reading too much into it。 I enjoyed the short story that aims to provoke absurdity, and I’ll keep it at that。 。。。more
