Summary

One of the most dynamic and globally recognized entertainment forces of our time opens up fully about his life, in a brave and inspiring book that traces his learning curve to a place where outer success, inner happiness, and human connection are aligned。 Along the way, Will tells the story in full of one of the most amazing rides through the worlds of music and film that anyone has ever had。

Will Smith’s transformation from a fearful child in a tense West Philadelphia home to one of the biggest rap stars of his era and then one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood history, with a string of box office successes that will likely never be broken, is an epic tale of inner transformation and outer triumph, and Will tells it astonishingly well。 But it's only half the story。

Will Smith thought, with good reason, that he had won at life: not only was his own success unparalleled, his whole family was at the pinnacle of the entertainment world。 Only they didn't see it that way: they felt more like star performers in his circus, a seven-days-a-week job they hadn't signed up for。 It turned out Will Smith's education wasn't nearly over。

This memoir is the product of a profound journey of self-knowledge, a reckoning with all that your will can get you and all that it can leave behind。 Written with the help of Mark Manson, author of the multi-million-copy bestseller The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, Will is the story of how one person mastered his own emotions, written in a way that can help everyone else do the same。 Few of us will know the pressure of performing on the world's biggest stages for the highest of stakes, but we can all understand that the fuel that works for one stage of our journey might have to be changed if we want to make it all the way home。 The combination of genuine wisdom of universal value and a life story that is preposterously entertaining, even astonishing, puts Will the book, like its author, in a category by itself。

“It’s easy to maneuver the material world once you have conquered your own mind。 I believe that。 Once you've learned the terrain of your own mind, every experience, every emotion, every circumstance, whether positive or negative, simply propels you forward, to greater growth and greater experience。 That is true will。 To move forward in spite of anything。 And to move forward in a way that brings others with you, rather than leave them behind。” —Will Smith

This book gives me the impression of a front-row seat in a theatre showing a documentary of somebody’s life。 And this is not just ‘anybody’。 This is Will Smith。 Will Smith is among the big celebrities of Hollywood media, highly admired and respected for his craft that he has honed for so many years。 It was interesting to me – how his childhood had unfolded, how he tackled the problems he was harshly slapped on the face with。Clearly, he went through heaven, hell, and earth just to get to where he This book gives me the impression of a front-row seat in a theatre showing a documentary of somebody’s life。 And this is not just ‘anybody’。 This is Will Smith。 Will Smith is among the big celebrities of Hollywood media, highly admired and respected for his craft that he has honed for so many years。 It was interesting to me – how his childhood had unfolded, how he tackled the problems he was harshly slapped on the face with。Clearly, he went through heaven, hell, and earth just to get to where he is now – just to get to the peak of his career back in the day。 This gives me fear just as much as it gives me a sense of inspiration – an ignition of a spark to keep me going and to never stop believing in myself。 I truly loved this book, and I implore that you try reading this。 It is worth every second of your life。 。。。more

The introduction of this book already had me hooked, and I knew for a fact that I would not be dropping it for even a second until I read its entirety。 Right off the bat, we are hit with a life lesson, an important life lesson that many people need to hear or be reminded of。 Will’s narrative about the bricks and the massive wall gives us all a moment of introspection。 A moment to pause and consider, what exactly have I been looking at in my life? I grew up with the exposure of Hollywood media and artists, and Will Smith is certainly one of the prominent names that I had always been hearing as far as my memory goes。 Quite frankly, I did not expect to have Will Smith write a book, yet here we are today。 Perhaps I should have expected it, in a way。 After all, this man has tried and done it all。I was slightly apprehensive - as we all are when we are presented with new, foreign content - but I immediately began to warm up to the story。 I was I grew up with the exposure of Hollywood media and artists, and Will Smith is certainly one of the prominent names that I had always been hearing as far as my memory goes。 Quite frankly, I did not expect to have Will Smith write a book, yet here we are today。 Perhaps I should have expected it, in a way。 After all, this man has tried and done it all。I was slightly apprehensive - as we all are when we are presented with new, foreign content - but I immediately began to warm up to the story。 I was given a rare glimpse into his life and his past, factors that shaped who he is in his career as a successful actor in the United States of America。 This was a pleasure to have read, and I highly recommend it to those who are curious about what exactly goes on – and what has gone on – behind the glitz and glamor of the media。 。。。more

Will Smith leaves everything on the table in this book。 I can do nothing but appreciate the transparency that he gives in this。 He takes you on a journey through his life while also giving you an opportunity to be introspective of yourself。 This book will make you reflect on your life’s relationships, goals, etc。 it will make you cipher between the image that you have of yourself and who you really are (and what you really want)。 Thank you for this Will。 Than you for being real

I didn't read this as many others did with Will being an egomaniac。 I saw most of it as excitement, drive, and ambition。 There were a few parts that made me cringe but who's life doesn't have those moments? This is a million hour read where Will Smith repeats over and over what a big superstar he is。 He throws in some boring childhood memories and therapy sessions to show he was once a little person like us。 He also tells you he has read books and then he proceeds to list them, showing that he should probably read more。 Somehow, by the end of the book, you like him a lot less than when you started, but that’s okay because in his therapy he learned that he is living in his own universe of himself an This is a million hour read where Will Smith repeats over and over what a big superstar he is。 He throws in some boring childhood memories and therapy sessions to show he was once a little person like us。 He also tells you he has read books and then he proceeds to list them, showing that he should probably read more。 Somehow, by the end of the book, you like him a lot less than when you started, but that’s okay because in his therapy he learned that he is living in his own universe of himself and he doesn’t need you to like him anyway。 。。。more

I was excited to get into this book, having grown up watching Will Smith from the off。 I was almost in tears by page 12, but did not finish it, as I was over the barrage of foul language used, but mostly it was the description of sex scenes he could’ve made known without being so descriptive of his actions。

4。5 ⭐️。 So good!!! Well structured and written。 Loved reading about his life。 Upbringing, work ethic and family。 Highly recommend the audiobook。 He narrates and raps and includes audio clips from his past。 Many great quotable gems。 “It’s amazing how skewed your vision can become when you see the present through the lens of your past。”

I love that I am now in a period of my life where some of my childhood favourites are writing memoirs (even though it also means getting older!)。 Will Smith is a remarkably intelligent man, and an amazing performer。 He used to get a bad rap for not fitting in with the whatever imaginary street cred supposedly needed, but everyone knows that he is a master storyteller, and his skills are on full display here。 Everyone from Jerry Seinfeld to Nelson Mandela comes to life through his incredible tale I love that I am now in a period of my life where some of my childhood favourites are writing memoirs (even though it also means getting older!)。 Will Smith is a remarkably intelligent man, and an amazing performer。 He used to get a bad rap for not fitting in with the whatever imaginary street cred supposedly needed, but everyone knows that he is a master storyteller, and his skills are on full display here。 Everyone from Jerry Seinfeld to Nelson Mandela comes to life through his incredible talent。 The way he talks about the good and the bad in his life with introspection and humor is so captivating。 He is also very honest about what moves and motivates him in a way that many people wouldn't be。 This is one that is best appreciated in audiobook form for sure。 I will miss his smiling voice in my ear!PS Will, the prank is very funny, but I understand why Jada was mortified。Edit。 Reading through reviews, I am surprised to see that a lot of people find Will boastful and arrogant。 I thought a lot of what he says about being a big star was either self-deprecating or to show his relentless drive to succeed at all costs, which he eventually realizes is ruining his family。 I thought his description of how he was scared of being and traveling alone in Trinidad and Tobago was both touching and telling。 。。。more

Excellent story telling! I listened to the audio book version with Will Smith as the narrator。 It's by far the best audiobook I've listened to。 I've always liked Will Smith as an actor and musician but now I have way more respect for him。 I do wish he would have given more details into his marriage with Jada (answering the tabloids in the past few years) but I respect his privacy and his choice not to discuss or explain himself。 Excellent story telling! This was an impressive read。 Will was so raw in his description of his imperfect self as he desperately strived for perfection。 He vulnerably showed his imperfections, his ego, and his emotions。 He showed how much he has grown over the years, reminding us all that with life comes constant growth。

Thoroughly enjoyed this book。 I grew up loving Fresh Prince and listening to his music so it was really interesting to hear about his childhood and how his success started。 I’ve only recently started listening to audiobooks and I chose well。 He’s a lyricist and you can sit back and enjoy Will playing with words snd added musical extras。 Definitely recommend - an honest, interesting insight into his life。

I wanted to love this book so much more。 I've been a Will Smith fan since the Fresh Prince days。 I knew about the early rap stuff of course, but Fresh Prince was in the home for years。I've loved Will as an actor。 From ID4 to I am legend, he was king of the screen for a decade。 This book explains that things were not so rosy in his life through those years。 I never quite connected to him - his life is just a little too different for me to relate。 But, I enjoyed the story。 I wanted to love this book so much more。 I've been a Will Smith fan since the Fresh Prince days。 I knew about the early rap stuff of course, but Fresh Prince was in the home for years。I've loved Will as an actor。 From ID4 to I am legend, he was king of the screen for a decade。 This book explains that things were not so rosy in his life through those years。 I never quite connected to him - his life is just a little too different for me to relate。 But, I enjoyed the story。 。。。more
