Summary

"Alborough celebrates the pleasure of giving and receiving good hugs, as well as the joy inherent in finding just the right word。" — PUBLISHERS WEEKLY (starred review)

Bobo needs a hug。 But his friends don't seem to understand。 "Hug," he implores, time and again。 Time and again his puzzled pals—from the smallest chameleon to the tallest giraffe—shrug and cuddle with their jungle mothers。 As the lonely chimp's plea escalates, his friends grow concerned。 Can the elephants lead Bobo to his heart's desire?

Jez Alborough, the acclaimed author-illustrator of WHERE'S MY TEDDY?, IT'S THE BEAR!, and MY FRIEND BEAR transforms a total of three words—and some of the most tenderly expressive animals ever created—into an endearing tribute to love and belonging。

As Bobo the chimp wanders the jungle, he observes many different animals giving hugs。 Bobo asks for hugs, but there is never anyone to hug him, which sends him into lonely sobs。 Will there ever be anyone with hugs for Bobo? There are only 3 words in the entire book: hug, Bobo, and Mommy。 The illustrations of the animals are cute and show off the animals' emotions well。 Toddlers will enjoy this one and understand the simple plot。 As Bobo the chimp wanders the jungle, he observes many different animals giving hugs。 Bobo asks for hugs, but there is never anyone to hug him, which sends him into lonely sobs。 Will there ever be anyone with hugs for Bobo? A heartfelt story told with detailed pictures and just three words。 Perfect for the beginning reader。 Reminds me of Duck, Duck Moose。 Monkey see everyone hugging and wants a hug of his own。

For having only three different words in the whole book, author and illustrator did an amazing job conveying emotion of empathy, love, and relief。 Sweet little book to share with a sweet little one in your life。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Bought this book to add to my 9 month olds book collection。 I thought it was a cute story。 When I read it to my little one, she got progressively more concerned that Bobo wasn't getting a hug。 She was bawling by the time we got the page where Bobo was distraught asking for a hug I。 The middle of all the animals。I thought it might have been a fluke with the first time reading it。 The second time through was even worse。 I would not recommend this book for very young children who are sensitive or s Bought this book to add to my 9 month olds book collection。 I thought it was a cute story。 When I read it to my little one, she got progressively more concerned that Bobo wasn't getting a hug。 She was bawling by the time we got the page where Bobo was distraught asking for a hug I。 The middle of all the animals。I thought it might have been a fluke with the first time reading it。 The second time through was even worse。 I would not recommend this book for very young children who are sensitive or show a significant amount of empathy。 This would be a great book to talk about feelings and empathy with older children who are better able to understand those complex feelings。 。。。more

Not my favorite of the wordless picture books because it can come across as having an anti-inclusive message (though I doubt that was its intent)。 Illustrations were cute and some aspects I still appreciated。

A picture really is worth a thousand words, isn't it? The pictures in this book just say so much, and there is really only one actual word used throughout most of the book: the titular 'hug'。 It's very sweet and very well done。 Works perfectly when offering real cuddles while reading this。 A picture really is worth a thousand words, isn't it? Preschooler and kindergartener love hugs and liked the book。 Cute ending。 Kindergartener was proud to read it all。 Love how a plot can come along with so few words。

I think this book would be excellent for young classrooms, even one to try and introduce reading to。 It is a simple tale about a chimp who has trouble communicating。 The chimp sees all sorts of affection around him and notices he is missing that。 He then communicates with his mother and is happy with the results。 Speaking your mind is another solid lesson I want to encourage my students in emphasizing。 I would love to have this in my classroom。

A good book for children to understand how hugs help those who are in need of some emotional support。

I saw this book recommended for early readers。 While otherwise it may be more geared towards toddlers, this book is PERFECT for those new readers who struggle with the desire to read because it seems HARD。 I always try to find books that I KNOW my son can read, to help build his confidence, and this was perfect for that purpose。 This book has only 3 words- Hug, Bobo, and Mommy。 The story is mostly told in the illustrations, and my son LOVED that he could easily read every page。 A winner for our I saw this book recommended for early readers。 While otherwise it may be more geared towards toddlers, this book is PERFECT for those new readers who struggle with the desire to read because it seems HARD。 I always try to find books that I KNOW my son can read, to help build his confidence, and this was perfect for that purpose。 This book has only 3 words- Hug, Bobo, and Mommy。 The story is mostly told in the illustrations, and my son LOVED that he could easily read every page。 A winner for our purposes, for sure。 。。。more

This book is just brilliant。 So much is conveyed in just one word。 Of course when I read it with Ada and Everett, we spend a lot of time talking about what is going on。 Bobo, a young chimp, is walking through the jungle when he comes upon other animals hugging a parent。 When Bobo seems downcast, the mother elephant takes Bobo on a search for it's mother。 On the way we see other young creatures with a parent。 When I ask if each animal is Bobo's mother, Ada emphatically responds, "No, No, No!"
