Mixed feelings on this one。 The story follows a seahorse dad as he waits for his eggs to hatch and encounters other fish dads with their eggs/fish children。 Learning about fish fathers is a cool concept, and something that you might want to expand upon with other reading。 The illustrations are colorful and fun like all of Carle’s books, and have the special clear plastic painted pages to show fish hidden behind seaweed and other ocean debris。 It’s always fun when a book has a little surprise lik Mixed feelings on this one。 The story follows a seahorse dad as he waits for his eggs to hatch and encounters other fish dads with their eggs/fish children。 Learning about fish fathers is a cool concept, and something that you might want to expand upon with other reading。 The illustrations are colorful and fun like all of Carle’s books, and have the special clear plastic painted pages to show fish hidden behind seaweed and other ocean debris。 It’s always fun when a book has a little surprise like that and Carle does it often。 I wasn’t a huge fan of the actual text。 It’s very repetitive (which can be great in kids books), but a bit clunky。 And of course there’s the whole line about one of the dads babysitting which is sure to annoy plenty of parents out there! 。。。more

This is such a strange one! A story of all the different under the sea dads who help out carrying their babies around in an unconventional way - in their mouths, on their head, etc。 Definitely piques your interest about what is going on under the sea (how does the male tilapia get by carrying all those eggs in his mouth?)。 Interspersed with some "who's hiding over there" pages, done with acetate this is a unique book that I think works as well as a story about this subject could, it's interestin This is such a strange one!

Cute with wonderful pictures。 Dads are awesome ;)

Gina

This could be used well for talking about camouflage, where clear pages allow you to see various sea creatures separately or obscured by their environment。 It is also interesting for showing male participation in child care。

I really enjoyed this one! I should say, I take issue with the use of the word "babysitting" applied to a father。 Aside from that though, this was really colorful and fun and a bit informative! Carle books are usually winners in my opinion。 I really enjoyed this one! This is。。。 kind of a weird book。 But I liked it?

Needs a bit more of an ending in my opinion but my toddler son likes playing peekaboo with the transparent pages。

Lauran Burnham

This was an interesting book because I did not realize how many papa fishes helped protect the eggs of their offspring。 Also, the book had a transparency page that showed the hiding place of other fish, and I know that is going to be a hit with my niece。

Mister Seahorse is a great book that can be used when talking about how different animals reproduce differently。 It can be tied to life cycles of sea animals and that some species do things differently than humans。 In Mister Seahorse, a male seahorse carries the babies instead of a female seahorse。 While reading, students can see his belly grow until eventually the seahorses grow。 It is a wonderful story for introducing various health concepts。

This book fills me with a righteous fire。 I want to thrust it into the hands - or better yet, the hands of the children of - all those socially conservative traditionalists/bigots who say things like it's "not natural" to do X gender or Y sex thing。 Remember Jordan Peterson and his lobster? And how he got basic biology wrong? That's how I feel when social conservatives talk about "nature" - I'm like, bro, do u even science? Do u even biology? Because dolphins are super gay。 As are penguins, and This book fills me with a righteous fire。 I want to thrust it into the hands - or better yet, the hands of the children of - all those socially conservative traditionalists/bigots who say things like it's "not natural" to do X gender or Y sex thing。 Remember Jordan Peterson and his lobster? Well, in seahorse world, it is indeed MISTER seahorse that carries the babies and births them。 SO TAKE THAT。Anyway, on top of this righteous fire, the book is immensely colorful (it is Eric Carle, after all), and interactive - there are trumpet fish hiding behind seaweed, and lionfish by coral。 It is a feast。 An underwater feast! 。。。more

Great book about fathers taking care of their eggs in the ocean community!

Gorgeous illustrations, and a concept that is not often covered in picture books - in sea life, it is sometimes the male of the species that carries, hatches, or tends to offspring。 However, there is a page in which one of the fathers is referred to as "babysitting" his children, which is a huge pet peeve of mine。 You are not babysitting。 You are parenting。 If I read this to one of my kids, they would get an earful about that。 Gorgeous illustrations, and a concept that is not often covered in picture books - in sea life, it is sometimes the male of the species that carries, hatches, or tends to offspring。 However, there is a page in which one of the fathers is referred to as "babysitting" his children, which is a huge pet peeve of mine。 You are not babysitting。 You are parenting。 If I read this to one of my kids, they would get an earful about that。 。。。more

I guess the closest thing to a picture book where a trans dad gives birth there is。

Would be 5-Stars, except for the line about Mr。 Bullhead "babysitting" his own children。 I think that especially in a book about animal Fathers having positive impacts on the raising of their children, use of that phrase undercuts the overall message。 Fathers who care for their children are no more "babysitting" than Mothers are。 Would be 5-Stars, except for the line about Mr。 Bullhead "babysitting" his own children。 I think that especially in a book about animal Fathers having positive impacts on the raising of their children, use of that phrase undercuts the overall message。 Fathers who care for their children are no more "babysitting" than Mothers are。 。。。more

My preschool class had so much fun reading this book, especially finding where animals and their eggs were on each page。 In true Eric Carle fashion, the book has just enough predictability for children to participate in narrating。

Modern FantasyK-3rdI enjoyed how this book introduced children to biology through its use of marine life interactions。 It addressed the topic of reproduction to show the diversity that exists among different animals。 This book is a fun way to engage children in the world of reading, while also introducing them to the world of biology。

Eric Carle's distinctive bright creatures abound in this Laura Ingalls Wilder Award winner。 The story is about fathers that care for their eggs until they hatch。 The beautiful illustrations also have several acetate pages that hide something - it is a mystery until you turn away the page and see what is behind the acetate drawing。 The repetitive phrase is: "as Mr Seahorse drifted gently through the sea"。 The text describes his journey through the sea and tells how on the way he meets other fathe Eric Carle's distinctive bright creatures abound in this Laura Ingalls Wilder Award winner。 The story is about fathers that care for their eggs until they hatch。 The beautiful illustrations also have several acetate pages that hide something - it is a mystery until you turn away the page and see what is behind the acetate drawing。 The repetitive phrase is: "as Mr Seahorse drifted gently through the sea"。 The text describes his journey through the sea and tells how on the way he meets other fathers, like a lionfish hidden behind the acetate page of a coral reef。 The plot shares that not only mothers look after the young。 The tissue paper collage illustrations are beautiful。 The age group is Grades 1 to 3。 。。。more
