Summary

The #1 New York Timesbestselling sequel to The 48 Laws of Power

Mastery synthesizes the years of research Robert Greene conducted while writing the international bestsellers The 48 Laws of PowerThe 33 Strategies of War, and The Art of Seduction and demonstrates that the ultimate form of power is mastery itself。 By analyzing the lives of such past masters as Charles Darwin, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, and Leonard da Vinci, as well as by interviewing nine contemporary masters, including tech guru Paul Graham and animal rights advocate Temple Grandin, Greene debunks our culture’s many myths about genius and distills the wisdom of the ages to reveal the secret to greatness。 With this seminal text as a guide, readers will learn how to unlock the passion within and become masters。

After reading the 48 laws of power and the 50 th law, this book naturally found itself on my to read list。 It is a very good, filled with useful info。 I knew some of the info because of my professional experience。 I suggest this book to anyone who would like to know how to master a subject。 The selected biographies are well analyzed and the lessons are explained。

Nothing new, but very, very well put。 Mastery is the sensation of control over reality, our lives, on others, and on our environments。 To get there is a learning process grounded on multi-disciplinary exploration, authentic choice, and intense focus。 Loved the chapters on higher-level intuition, seductive rationality, and the dimensional mind。Tactics were hit or miss, though。

Very illustrative, I really enjoyed the way the author make analogies between concept and some episode in the live of the masters。 I strongly recommend this book for young minds and for those who wants to review their own paths。

The storytelling of Robert Greene is out of this world。 Take a bow for the research done for writing this masterpiece about mastery。

I have enjoyed "The Laws of Human Nature by Robert" previously and instantly made up my mind to give this one a try。 And I must say, It was a great decision。 It made a lot of unnoticed, confusing things in life clear。 It made me more focused, self-aware, and confident。 This is something I have been looking for。 Thank you, Mr。 Robert! I wish you good health and fortune。 I have enjoyed "The Laws of Human Nature by Robert" previously and instantly made up my mind to give this one a try。 And I must say, It was a great decision。 It made a lot of unnoticed, confusing things in life clear。 It made me more focused, self-aware, and confident。 This is something I have been looking for。 Thank you, Mr。 Robert! I don't believe Robert Greene to be this shallow, simple and an obsessive over-generalizor, but he is a very sick author。 Such a sickness is the cancer of authors, once one tastes the glory and financial revenues of a work gone viral, they can't stop。 The book is rich with snippets of biographies and insights drawn from them。 I enjoy reading biographies of great individuals, so It was an inspiring ride。 Unfortunately, I couldn't help feeling bored and trudged by the end of it。 It's unnecessarily I don't believe Robert Greene to be this shallow, simple and an obsessive over-generalizor, but he is a very sick author。 Such a sickness is the cancer of authors, once one tastes the glory and financial revenues of a work gone viral, they can't stop。 The book is rich with snippets of biographies and insights drawn from them。 I enjoy reading biographies of great individuals, so It was an inspiring ride。 Unfortunately, I couldn't help feeling bored and trudged by the end of it。 It's unnecessarily long and redundant and one cannot help feeling the author's fingers trying to please the reader。It's much suitable for those overly energetic people who want to feel good about themselves and feel motivated but definitely would insufficient for the critical reader whose mine always seeks sufficient depth。 。。。more

I truly loved some aspects of this book。 The first third of the book is about apprenticeship and I found it incredibly important as I was coming to the end of a 7 year apprenticeship in my own life。 I hadn't had context for the natural transition out of the apprenticeship phase until I read this。 I took away a lot of lessons that are going to shape how I follow my own studies and inclinations and path of mastery。 I didn't love that most of his examples were of white men and the was he talks abou I truly loved some aspects of this book。 The first third of the book is about apprenticeship and I found it incredibly important as I was coming to the end of a 7 year apprenticeship in my own life。 I hadn't had context for the natural transition out of the apprenticeship phase until I read this。 I took away a lot of lessons that are going to shape how I follow my own studies and inclinations and path of mastery。 I didn't love that most of his examples were of white men and the was he talks about power sometimes。 His way of talking about power seemed very much from a dominatio/patriarchal perspective, which makes sense given the topics of his other books。 But I could just look over those parts to get he underlying wisdom。 。。。more

I don't remember why this book ended up on my shelf, but I can't bring myself to keep reading it。 It's too frustrating, infuriating, and depressing。 I don't need to read a book to know that any fuckwad with a mental disorder can be as great as the greatest people in history no matter their circumstances, they just need to stop fucking up and doing things wrong。 I don't remember why this book ended up on my shelf, but I can't bring myself to keep reading it。 It's too frustrating, infuriating, and depressing。 I don't need to read a book to know that any fuckwad with a mental disorder can be as great as the greatest people in history no matter their circumstances, they just need to stop fucking up and doing things wrong。 。。。more

Powerful and inspiring read。 In this age of consumption and quick “rewards,” this book details how much true joy can emerge from committing to mastery。

Within only a short time with this book, I was quite close to returning it to the library。 It felt to me like another guru making money telling the same old stories。 But I decided to trudge along and see where it took me。 After all, the reviews for it are so overwhelmingly positive。 Maybe there's something useful there。It's actually a wonderful book。 I've been reading it alongside Cal Newport's "Deep Work," and they compliment each other quite well。 This is after reading "The Shallows" very rece Within only a short time with this book, I was quite close to returning it to the library。 It felt to me like another guru making money telling the same old stories。 But I decided to trudge along and see where it took me。 After all, the reviews for it are so overwhelmingly positive。 Maybe there's something useful there。It's actually a wonderful book。 I've been reading it alongside Cal Newport's "Deep Work," and they compliment each other quite well。 This is after reading "The Shallows" very recently。The author re-visits multiple times many people from history。 At first this seemed quite redundant and frustrating。 But the style grew on me。 He didn't give the same details every time。 Instead, he used their story, by now familiar to the reader, to expand or illustrate the principle at work in the particular chapter。 So I began to trust the author more。 Instead of growing aggravated that he seemed to be re-treading the same paths, I started looking forward to what new angle on the person's history would be。In the end, this book exceeded my expectations。Highly recommended。 。。。more

I absolutely love books about interesting people! This book is pretty much a look at how numerous greats, such as Einstein, Leonardo DaVinci, Charles Darwin, Freddy Roach, Mozart, The Wright Brothers ect, achieved MASTERY in their respective fields。He touches on six keys or steps on how to obtain mastery, how important it is to love whatever it is you are trying to master and the ups and downs that almost inevitably will arise on the path to mastery。 Good read, especially if you are currently tr I absolutely love books about interesting people! Pocas veces se lee un libro de no ficción en que el tema sea tan interesante como bien escrito。 Se propone inspirar, y al menos conmigo lo logró。

Another life’s cheat sheet from the masterAccording to Robert Greene, there are 48 laws of power and 33 strategies of war。 But for mastery? Definitely a must-read。 This books walks the reader thru the lives of several well-known people who had significant professional achievements。 These life stories are the used as examples for illustrating the components of mastery。

Unfinished - Thoughtful and inspiring content, but highly repetitive, and sometimes it slides into what I would consider just common sense。

Dense but enjoyable。 A good pace between theory and story and a good balance between folks you know and those you will want to know more about。

I've read a LOT of self improvement books and they all pale in comparison to this work。 I dare even say they are fraudulent when compared to this book。It's very practical, no nonsense, and provides a structure to work with。It is a most rational and reasonable perspective on essentially the definition of "skill" and how to obtain and nurture its speed and efficiency。 His style here is the same as his other work。 He offers an idea then rationalizes it as best as he can by assuming a certain level I've read a LOT of self improvement books and they all pale in comparison to this work。 I dare even say they are fraudulent when compared to this book。It's very practical, no nonsense, and provides a structure to work with。It is a most rational and reasonable perspective on essentially the definition of "skill" and how to obtain and nurture its speed and efficiency。 His style here is the same as his other work。 He offers an idea then rationalizes it as best as he can by assuming a certain level of knowledge, then supports it with historical accounts, then explains how the history and rationality are related。 All three steps are unnecessary for some, necessary for others。 If you agree to the first step in that method you don't really need to read the historical accounts, although his summarizing of those stories are very interesting and enjoyable in and of themselves。I have read Robert Greene's other work。 That work is not his best, or the best。 It is either too vague, not workable, or too subjective。 In my opinion THIS is his best and most useful contribution to a wide spread of potential readers, and probably the best self help book in existence when it comes to trying to achieve the material goods and lifestyle that you want, without taking absurd risks or generating fanciful hopes and dreams of getting something for nothing。 It is NOT a get rich quick sort of book。 You have been warned。 。。。more

Fortunately, although in the same style of his other works, this one is truly helping people to become a better person (the other works stand on the dark side morally)。 It conveys a deep understanding of what "mastery" is for the author (and as a reader, I can learn the way he understands it too)。Overall, I pretty much like this one a lot。 Fortunately, although in the same style of his other works, this one is truly helping people to become a better person (the other works stand on the dark side morally)。 It conveys a deep understanding of what "mastery" is for the author (and as a reader, I can learn the way he understands it too)。Overall, I pretty much like this one a lot。 。。。more
