Summary

A coming-of-age tale of fanfiction, family, and first love。

Cath is a Simon Snow fan。 Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan。。。。 But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she's really good at it。 She and her twin, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving。

Reading。 Rereading。 Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fanfiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere。 Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go。 She doesn't want to。

Now that they're going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn't want to be roommates。 Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone。 She's got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend; a fiction-writing professor who thinks fanfiction is the end of the civilized world; a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words。。。 and she can't stop worrying about her dad, who's loving and fragile and has never really been alone。

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

An unabridged recording on 10 CDs (12 hours, 49 minutes)。

This story revolves around a girl named Cather who's definitely a good fiction writer but w that is moch more shyer。 She bottled up everything inside her and that somehow restricts her from touching the utmost heights。 Well, the title fangirl here is describing that the protagonist, Cather is a girl who writes fan fiction and w that is not ready to write anything else。 This story is all based on how she stepped out of her comfort zone, found love of her life and encountered change in herself wit This story revolves around a girl named Cather who's definitely a good fiction writer but w that is moch more shyer。 She bottled up everything inside her and that somehow restricts her from touching the utmost heights。 Well, the title fangirl here is describing that the protagonist, Cather is a girl who writes fan fiction and w that is not ready to write anything else。 This story is all based on how she stepped out of her comfort zone, found love of her life and encountered change in herself within months。 About the characters, talking about the lead, I found Cather to be a bit ignorant and a girl that can "piss you off" easily。 On contradictory she also knows to speak up for herself。 That's what I liked the most。 All other characters were upto the mark。 Writing scheme- Written on third person。 W so many astonishing lines in between that can make you ponder on them, for instance Just。。。 isn't giving up allowed sometimes? Isn't it okay to say, ‘This really hurts, so I’m going to stop trying’?”“It sets a dangerous precedent。”“For avoiding pain?”“For avoiding life。Personally speaking theirs nothing in the book that gonna make you jump off the bed but I can guarantee that you won't put it aside before finishing。 。。。more

Listened to this one。 Chose an easy listening book as I was struggling with a complicated read。 Deals with some heavy real-life stuff for a YA novel。 Easy moving pace。 Enjoyed the characters。 Just overall not my thing but have to give it 3。5 stars for being a smart book meant for teens。

I loved reading this book so much, I think I have read it about three times now。 Beautiful writing! :)

Honestly, I am torn about this book。 The fact is that it is a YA book, and therefore it is all kinds of wholesome。 Also, like Bella Swan (Swann? too lazy to Google), Cather Avery is a template that most teenage girls on the cusp of adulthood will immediately identify with: - Awkward? Check- Shy? Check- Introverted? Check- Hopeless around boys? CHECK- Nice? OMG CHECK(The bit about being too nervous about going to the dining hall? That was definitely me。 A bunch of other reviewers call it out like Honestly, I am torn about this book。 The fact is that it is a YA book, and therefore it is all kinds of wholesome。 Also, like Bella Swan (Swann? too lazy to Google), Cather Avery is a template that most teenage girls on the cusp of adulthood will immediately identify with: - Awkward? That was definitely me。 A bunch of other reviewers call it out like it is ludicrous。 But a timid kid who is afraid to ask for help will get lost a number of times, and then be afraid to go looking in the first place。 The number of times I have gone hungry in situations because I wasn't sure whether I had to pay for food or not。。。)The story is sweet。 Not sugary sweet, but sweet。 Levi is adorable。 Reagan is the baller chick。 Wren is the wayward sister (for a bit)。 And so on。 Having said all that, I still don't think the book works。 The fan fiction aspect was unnecessary。 It seemed like a mere plot point, and frankly all the "excerpts" were just distracting and annoying。 Like commercial breaks after each chapter。 I also think that all the other characters were unnecessarily one-dimensional。 I get that this is Cath's story, but you can't throw around huge things like a mother walking out on her kids and deal with it inadequately。 Wren wants a relationship, and then she doesn't? Mother wants a relationship, but not too deep? What? This is deep, serious stuff。 It cannot be relegated into the background。 Omg the tired trope of a boyfriend who is accepting of all his girlfriend's insecurities。 I have had terrible boyfriends, so I am not the best judge of this, but even a saint would get annoyed with the constant: "Are you sure you like me? Why do you like me?" schtick。 It gets old very fast。 Especially when she is an identical twin, and when someone compliments her sister's looks, she feels slighted。 I mean。 COME ON。 Also, all the things that the other negative reviews say about stereotyping fandoms feels a bit sad。 I don't think Rowell set out to mock fan fiction writers, nor do I think she did so inadvertently。 It is just that it is a mere characteristic for Cather, whereas fans seem to be deeply devoted to their fandoms。 I don't know; I have never been a fan in that way。 This is one of the more rambling stream of consciousness reviews I have written。 So。 TLDR: Readable book with a sweet college romance, but little else。 。。。more

4。5/5 starsIt was a great contemporary。 I liked seeing Cath evolve from her introversion。 It's not like she made a bunch of friends but she opened up and got over her insecurities and anxiety。 I love Levi。 When he first said that he wasn't much of a book person, it was a big revulsion。 But, I totally started loving his brightness and laughter。 I also like the whole twin dynamic because I also have a twin brother and I can't help but wondering if the same thing will happen to both of his。 (We'll 4。5/5 starsIt was a great contemporary。 I liked seeing Cath evolve from her introversion。 It's not like she made a bunch of friends but she opened up and got over her insecurities and anxiety。 I love Levi。 When he first said that he wasn't much of a book person, it was a big revulsion。 But, I totally started loving his brightness and laughter。 I also like the whole twin dynamic because I also have a twin brother and I can't help but wondering if the same thing will happen to both of his。 (We'll definitely drift especially because we will go to different colleges) I liked Reagan's attitude。 She was no too warm but not too harsh。 It had a cute romance with no drama which I totally needed after reading the Legend Series。 (Totally irrelevant but I can't get over it) 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I should only be 2 or 3 but I am giving this 4 stars only because of Levi my love。I literally skipped all Simon and Baz parts (yes, including parts where Cather reads them for Levi), idk I just didn’t really care about them 😅

To be fair I probably would’ve liked this when I was 14 but it was unnecessarily long, boring and the character were not engaging。

This is the first time in a long time, or maybe ever, that i've actually felt sad to finish a book/ have the story end。 Sure, i've felt as though I wanted other stories to last forever but at the same time I couldn't wait to see how those stories ended。 But Fangirl, I just wanted the story the to keep going。 To read more about Levi and Cath。 To see how Cath grows and becomes more confident。 To love reading about Wren and their dad and Reagan。 I'm so attached to these characters, specifically Cat This is the first time in a long time, or maybe ever, that i've actually felt sad to finish a book/ have the story end。 Sure, i've felt as though I wanted other stories to last forever but at the same time I couldn't wait to see how those stories ended。 But Fangirl, I just wanted the story the to keep going。 To read more about Levi and Cath。 To see how Cath grows and becomes more confident。 To love reading about Wren and their dad and Reagan。 I'm so attached to these characters, specifically Cath and Levi, I love it。 The length gave you enough time to really connect with each character and to fall in love with the story on a deeper level than most YA novels would allow you to。 I found Cath really relatable, with realistic imperfections and lovable characteristics, which made it easier for me to love and appreciate her person。 The whole Simon Snow thing was very unique,I found, and so well developed that even I found myself invested in his story (the Carry On version at least)。 I loved the various themes that were represented throughout such as anxiety, family, trauma, trust, etc。 I'd say that Rowell kind of put a little bit of everything, in perfect portions, into Fangirl。This book overall was very well written, captivating you at every page。 Highly recommend。 。。。more

I was craving something light and fluffy with a bit of emotional turmoil。 So in a shocking turn of events, I picked up a YA contemporary。。。 and I loved it。 Fangirl was such a nostalgic, bittersweet experience for me。 I related to Cath on a molecular level: the introversion, the anxiety, the social awkwardness, the prolific fanfic writing, the lifelong obsession with a fictional world, the tumultuous first semester of uni。 But her freshman year had a far more satisfying ending than mine。 Anyway。 I was craving something light and fluffy with a bit of emotional turmoil。 So in a shocking turn of events, I picked up a YA contemporary。。。 and I loved it。 Fangirl was such a nostalgic, bittersweet experience for me。 I related to Cath on a molecular level: the introversion, the anxiety, the social awkwardness, the prolific fanfic writing, the lifelong obsession with a fictional world, the tumultuous first semester of uni。 But her freshman year had a far more satisfying ending than mine。 Anyway。 ADORE。 。。。more
