Summary

Katie’s got it pretty good。 She’s a talented young chef, she runs a successful restaurant, and she has big plans to open an even better one。 Then, all at once, progress on the new location bogs down, her charming ex-boyfriend pops up, her fling with another chef goes sour, and her best waitress gets badly hurt。 And just like that, Katie’s life goes from pretty good to not so much。 What she needs is a second chance。 Everybody deserves one, after all—but they don’t come easy。 Luckily for Katie, a mysterious girl appears in the middle of the night with simple instructions for a do-it-yourself do-over:

1。 Write your mistake
2。 Ingest one mushroom
3。 Go to sleep
4。 Wake anew

And just like that, all the bad stuff never happened, and Katie is given another chance to get things right。 She’s also got a dresser drawer full of magical mushrooms—and an irresistible urge to make her life not just good, but perfect。 Too bad it’s against the rules。 But Katie doesn’t care about the rules—and she’s about to discover the unintended consequences of the best intentions。

From the mind and pen behind the acclaimed Scott Pilgrim series comes a madcap new tale of existential angst, everyday obstacles, young love, and ancient spirits that’s sharp-witted and tenderhearted, whimsical and wise。

Short review but I loved this。 Bryan Lee O’Malley just makes the best characters and I love the way he tells stories。 Also, I’m Hazel??!

What then? Every mistake you make, every accident, has led to you being。。 YOU。 And in a strange way, that's amazing, now, isn't it?Katie learns this throughout her journey in the book, that the mistakes you make are made for a reason。 I couldn't help but love that。 The horrible things you went through, the sad ones, the embarrassing ones, the regrets you have, all accumulated into who you are today, and I couldn't help but love that message, especially as someone who's been through。。 a LOT, in my life。 This book contains beautiful art, a beautiful story, and some fun characters, and honestly, I can't wait to read it again (which is what I say for a lot of books, but I truly do mean it x'D) I'd definitely recommend this one! 。。。more

I liked this!!!! I was a little unsure at the beginning but it got better as I read!!!!! It definitely got dark there at the end。 Not one I feel like I need to buy, as I loaned this from the library, but I enjoyed it。 Can you believe I’ve never read a book with the main character having my name? LolTrigger warning: cheating

i finished this book so fast。 katie was such an annoying and bad person that it frustrated me。 BUT i understand where she was coming from even tho she was annoying。

While I've enjoyed the movie adaptation, I've never read the Scott Pilgrim comics, but I really want to after reading Seconds。 I love the art style, and the humor is excellent。 Both are in support of a solid story about someone who finds the means to "correct" the mistakes of her past, which of course never goes well。 The supernatural elements are handled well, slowly being worked in and meshing with the story, not feeling forced or out of place。 Well paced, and a cast of supporting characters y While I've enjoyed the movie adaptation, I've never read the Scott Pilgrim comics, but I really want to after reading Seconds。 I love the art style, and the humor is excellent。 Both are in support of a solid story about someone who finds the means to "correct" the mistakes of her past, which of course never goes well。 The supernatural elements are handled well, slowly being worked in and meshing with the story, not feeling forced or out of place。 Well paced, and a cast of supporting characters you really wish there was more time to spend on。 。。。more

It didn't "wow" me but yeah it was okay。The illustrations are just adorable and I love Hazel😳👉👈!! Wow, this book hit。。。 differently。 When I first read “Seconds”, I was 22。 I found it kind of boring and hard to follow。 Now, at 28, I read the book differently。 I connected with the heroine, understood her desire to change things, erase all the mistakes, only to realise that life needs mistakes in order to prosper。 I got the subtle sarcasm, got the references。 “Seconds” truly is a great piece of art, but just like a good glass of wine, it needs a mature audience。 Maybe I’ll read it again in anot Wow, this book hit。。。 differently。 When I first read “Seconds”, I was 22。 I found it kind of boring and hard to follow。 Now, at 28, I read the book differently。 I connected with the heroine, understood her desire to change things, erase all the mistakes, only to realise that life needs mistakes in order to prosper。 I got the subtle sarcasm, got the references。 “Seconds” truly is a great piece of art, but just like a good glass of wine, it needs a mature audience。 Maybe I’ll read it again in another six years and see what has changed in my life? 。。。more

It's an entertaining enough story but comes across as predictable and juvenile at several points。 The writing weaves itself into a bind towards the end, and explains away some of the complexities through deus ex machina。 The artwork and the nod to folklore both have a cute, homey sort of apples though。 Pun not intended。 It's an entertaining enough story but comes across as predictable and juvenile at several points。 The writing weaves itself into a bind towards the end, and explains away some of the complexities through deus ex machina。 The artwork and the nod to folklore both have a cute, homey sort of apples though。 Pun not intended。 。。。more

Really great character driven story, love the sass and the plot twists, but most importantly the protagonist drives the story she is flawed and hilarious and realistic。 Had a blast reading。

I was really annoyed with this comic at first—it centers around a 29 year old white woman who is opening her SECOND restaurant and has absolutely no respect for the rules of nature。 But as I read on, I found it be a quirky and entertaining story about how mistakes make us who we are and how trying to be ‘perfect’ limits growth and other people’s agency。 content warnings: The protagonist alters the course of reality so her relationship/intimacy with her partner could be understood as non-consensu I was really annoyed with this comic at first—it centers around a 29 year old white woman who is opening her SECOND restaurant and has absolutely no respect for the rules of nature。 But as I read on, I found it be a quirky and entertaining story about how mistakes make us who we are and how trying to be ‘perfect’ limits growth and other people’s agency。 content warnings: The protagonist alters the course of reality so her relationship/intimacy with her partner could be understood as non-consensual 。。。more

While the story itself wasn‘t all that original and certain parts were predictable, the art style alone easily made up for all that。 What a stunning graphic novel, so cool! Loved the characters as well。 Such clever panel work too! I‘m still a bit in awe。

Emily Roberts

Quite nice, but not my favourite of his books。

Cleo

Entertaining, surprising, and pleasant。

Madhuri

A very predictable yet captivating story of second chances and unfulfilled dreams。

Absolutely lovely! It was funny but had a wonderful message in it。 O’Malley just has a talent for taking serious subjects and twisting them into something humorous we can all relate to!

RATING: 5This is possibly one of the best comics I've ever read, it's just impeccable, the drawings are beautiful, all characters are extremely interesting, there were no loose ends and everything happened when it had to happen。I took my time with it because I really wanted to enjoy it。 As soon as I started it, I realized that the universe found a way for me not to buy this comic before and only read it now when I am 21, because it is very meaningful to people who are in adulthood。Not that it wo RATING: 5This is possibly one of the best comics I've ever read, it's just impeccable, the drawings are beautiful, all characters are extremely interesting, there were no loose ends and everything happened when it had to happen。I took my time with it because I really wanted to enjoy it。 As soon as I started it, I realized that the universe found a way for me not to buy this comic before and only read it now when I am 21, because it is very meaningful to people who are in adulthood。Not that it wouldn't be amazing to me as a teenager, but now it’s so much deeper。 It's very deep, although it doesn't sound like it and it's super well written, with the perfect tone of irony and quick thoughts that makes you laugh out loud。 Katie is one of the best protagonists I've ever read! The culinary context of the book was a positive surprise, because I love culinary, but it was still a very simple way to make the story happen without having to elaborate unnecessary complex conflicts。 Also, I got hungry while reading, thanks to those who drew the delicious meals and made me really want to meet the restaurant! 。。。more
