Summary

From the #1 New York Times best-selling author of The Darkest Minds comes a sweepingly ambitious, high-octane tale of power, destiny, love and redemption。

Every seven years, the Agon begins。 As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality。
Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family's sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt's promises of eternal glory。 For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man--now a god--responsible for their deaths。

Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods。

The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and, at last, a way for Lore to leave the Agon behind forever。 But Lore's decision to bind her fate to Athena's and rejoin the hunt will come at a deadly cost--and still may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees。

I found this book super hard to get into。 It took me about 2 weeks to reach the halfway point (about 250 pages) and was close to giving up when I got invested。 I finished the book a day after that。 I loved the greek mythology aspect of it and the adventure part as well。 For those who are struggling like I did: just know that it gets much better!

I liked it 。。。I could have loved it but the presentation seemed off ? It's hard to explain。 I love the gods but I went into this book blind and just accepted any and all information。 But for me it was confusing because lore is both the strongest person and not 。。。the most essential。。。but not ? 。。。feminism。。。but like not ? It was strange。 I am still glad I read this。。cover made me think Medusa but I liked that her name was lore well nickname it made me just imagine this world where lore comes fro I liked it 。。。I could have loved it but the presentation seemed off ? This book basically brought the Hunger Games and Percy Jackson together in a plot about hunting down Greek Gods to kill them and gain their powers (or kill those who had already stolen their powers)。 The book is pretty much filled with action and with loads of plottwists that I didn't see coming at all。 At some points it was a little confusing to read, but that might be because I'm not a native speaker。 It also might be because of all the different family names。 I also really liked the character This book basically brought the Hunger Games and Percy Jackson together in a plot about hunting down Greek Gods to kill them and gain their powers (or kill those who had already stolen their powers)。 The book is pretty much filled with action and with loads of plottwists that I didn't see coming at all。 At some points it was a little confusing to read, but that might be because I'm not a native speaker。 It also might be because of all the different family names。 I also really liked the characters。 It did take a little longer for me to like Lore, but the others were insta love。 I especially liked Castor, and wish we could've seen more of Miles and Van。 Overall, a good book of you're into Greek Mythology! 。。。more

Loved this book from start to finish - and it was a quick finish! Once I picked it up I was sucked into Lore’s world and there was very little that could get me to put it down。 A powerful story about the family you choose, the family that chooses you, destiny and the choices you make。 9。5/10

It was actually not bad and it sorta reminded me of the hunger games。 It was a quick and interesting read and I liked the main character and the plot was super interesting especially if you like Greek mythology。

Was an absolute struggle to read。 I literally had to force myself to read this because nothing made me want to keep reading。 It got better towards the end, but even then, the ending was super dissatisfying and sudden。

I really enjoyed this book, seemed like a decent way of merging Ancient Greek mythology and the modern day。 Good characters, interesting plot which kept you engaged from start to finish and an easy read。

I read three other books while reading this one and I started Lore before I had even cracked the spines on any of the others。 This novel incited such an intense reading slump in me and I finally, finally, finally finished it today after a literal month of staring at it forlornly and seeing my bookmark peeking out from between it's near-end pages。 Thank you bitter motivation for getting me through that last hundred pages because it definitely wasn't the book pulling me along。 I read three other books while reading this one and I started Lore before I had even cracked the spines on any of the others。 This novel incited such an intense reading slump in me and I finally, finally, finally finished it today after a literal month of staring at it forlornly and seeing my bookmark peeking out from between it's near-end pages。 Thank you bitter motivation for getting me through that last hundred pages because it definitely wasn't the book pulling me along。 。。。more

I loved The Darkest Minds but I did not love this one。 Lore was punched, stabbed, burned, crushed, arrowed, poisoned, speared, killed, resurrected, and I don't know what else。 And I really didn't care。 I do love Greek mythology but this book missed the mark, in my opinion。 Had this been a series, I would not continue。 I loved The Darkest Minds but I did not love this one。 Lore was punched, stabbed, burned, crushed, arrowed, poisoned, speared, killed, resurrected, and I don't know what else。 And I really didn't care。 I do love Greek mythology but this book missed the mark, in my opinion。 Had this been a series, I would not continue。 。。。more

Each gods will have blood lines/houses and they are called according to the worrier choosed。 For example Kadmides for Ares, Odysseides for Aphrodite, Theseides for Hermes, Achillides for Apollo, Perseides for Poseidon。 So the history of Medusa, where she was r*pe by Poseidon and then Athena cursed her with a power to turn anyone into stone。 She was described as survival from Poseidon’s cruelty and been chooser as the icon of Perseides。 Lore the main female character is the descendants of Poseidon, so the cover of the book is medusa。 Please tell me you understand this 🤣Can I read the book without any knowledge of greek mythology?I read this book with very little to none knowledge。 It was very confusing figuring out the character’s house and who’s power they got。 Some of the old/original gods were already killed and their successors are called as the new gods。 However, after the 1st part of the book, I get the hang of it。 Basically you just ignore the houses and just remember the character’s name。 What make this Agon special? Lore, the main character along with Athena, Castor (new god of Apollo) & her mortal friend are trying to stop or end the cycles of Agon so that everyone can be free from the cruelty of it。 The writing is very descriptive of the violent, lots of killing and blood。 Point of highlight:-Patriarchy still exist even in the modern world。 Only boy can get the power from the old god。 Even though the original god is goddess。-Greedy。 1 power from 1 god is not enough。 You need to steal from other descendants too。-Betrayal-Very little romance。 Dont go in expecting Lore will fall in love with someone and together they save the world。 Nope。 -The ending - to accept yourself and willing to make sacrifices。 Trigger warning: r*ape, pedophile, blood, murder, violence 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I loved this book。 At first it felt like it dragged for a bit。 I did love the intro, it starts off with war!! I liked that it was at Central park。 All I wanted to know was what happened to Lore's family, and then we get told in detail and who committed the murders, I was super sad, it broke my heart。 Then, of course I was super mad to find out that Athena was the one that had killed not, she hated Wrath for the longest thinking it was him, then blamed herself for thinking she caused it when she I loved this book。 At first it felt like it dragged for a bit。 I did love the intro, it starts off with war!! *3。5 starsI was happy with what I got from this story, though I feel unsatisfied with the outcome。 I enjoyed the atmosphere and the writing style of this book。 I just got confused between characters and understanding what each persons role was within the Agon。The main characters were amazing。 I enjoyed the banter between the characters and how they worked together。 I was not expecting the twists that happened, and I was pleasantly enjoyed by how the plot developed from these twists。 Overall, it *3。5 starsI was happy with what I got from this story, though I feel unsatisfied with the outcome。 I enjoyed the atmosphere and the writing style of this book。 I just got confused between characters and understanding what each persons role was within the Agon。The main characters were amazing。 I enjoyed the banter between the characters and how they worked together。 I was not expecting the twists that happened, and I was pleasantly enjoyed by how the plot developed from these twists。 Overall, it was a decent book! I ate this shit up。 I mean how could I not when it was described as Greek mythology meets The Hunger Games?

Not quite what I thought it would be, and while it had good moments, I felt difficult to believe that it was all a cast of a bunch of teenagers and all somehow happened in like a week。 I enjoyed the twists and plot arc though。

A good read, made me appreciate stand-alones。 I specifically loved how they incorporated the gods businesses in a contemporary context。 It was a fun read but I did find that it dragged on towards the end。 Also wasn’t really a fan of castor and lores relationship, it was very flavorless and two dimensional。

I don’t know if it was worth a hype… I felt like maybe I didn’t spend enough time building some of the back story。 Also feel like the reader needs to have a strong knowledge of Greek mythology。 Loved Lore though! She’s a great character and total badass!!

2021 - the year of underwhelming Greek myth retellings。 I am very disappointed to own two beautiful special edition copies of this book。

DNFOk。 So, when I started reading this, I was really enjoying it。 But as I neared the middle, I noticed that I was losing interest and was focusing more on the tiny hints of romance rather the whole plot together。 Lots of people have really enjoyed it and I wanted to really enjoy it and not get bored of it (and actually FOCUS on the plot)。 So I took a little break, hoping that eventually I would be in the mood to read this。 I wasn't。 Anyway, I picked it up and tried to get back into it when I fe DNFOk。 So, when I started reading this, I was really enjoying it。 But as I neared the middle, I noticed that I was losing interest and was focusing more on the tiny hints of romance rather the whole plot together。 Lots of people have really enjoyed it and I wanted to really enjoy it and not get bored of it (and actually FOCUS on the plot)。 So I took a little break, hoping that eventually I would be in the mood to read this。 I wasn't。 Anyway, I picked it up and tried to get back into it when I felt like I kind-of wanted to read it - and I just COULD NOT get back into it。 From the start, I did enjoy it but I always felt that I was one step behind on the action going on - I didn't understand everything they were doing, and up till the bit I got up to, whatever they were doing seemed to just fall into place。I really wanted to like this book, and I have heard lots of great things about Passenger by Alexandra Bracken so I thought that perhaps this might also be amazing - and maybe it is, just not in my personal opinion。 Maybe in a few years time, I might try to read this again :) 。。。more

I quite enjoyed this book while on a trip to Greece, remembering a lot of mythology。 It also has a lot of plot twists, cute romances, and interesting world building。 Although there are some very graphic descriptions of sexual assault, so make sure to check trigger warnings before you read this book! Otherwise I loved the storyline and it was a great standalone book for Greek myth nerds。
