At the midpoint I had some concerns about where this story would go, but it turned out to be pretty stunning。 I highly recommend。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This very much reminded of a Jodi Picoult book-the tense family dynamics, the courtroom scenes, etc。 Initially I thought the ending of the rapist getting to start a new life elsewhere with the wife's help (so her husband didn't murder him) was kind of weak sauce, but it turns out she actually used her shady lawyer connections to have him killed, which is not exactly a happy ending, but felt more interesting。 This book deals with a number of uncomfortable topics, like rape, what rape means for me This very much reminded of a Jodi Picoult book-the tense family dynamics, the courtroom scenes, etc。 Initially I thought the ending of the rapist getting to start a new life elsewhere with the wife's help (so her husband didn't murder him) was kind of weak sauce, but it turns out she actually used her shady lawyer connections to have him killed, which is not exactly a happy ending, but felt more interesting。 This book deals with a number of uncomfortable topics, like rape, what rape means for men, and how we treat victims, but it is sensitive but realistic。 I really enjoyed this book and will definitely pick up anything else this author writes。 。。。more

A dark subject and a hard read。 This emotional story tells of abuse we rarely hear about but exists - male victims of sexual abuse。 The story cover family and relationships and is extremely well told。

This was really good。 It would have been a 5 star but nothing too wow or crazy happened as I anticipated or would have liked。 Fast paced, short chapters, multiple POVs, two timelines。 I really liked the writing style and the story overall。 No filler nonsense, everything pertained to the main plot and wrapped up nicely。

Rounding up from 3。5。 Anything recommended by Stephen King is ok by me, but this isn't quite what I'd expected。 While dramatic, moving and sometimes tense, it's not a thriller, in my opinion。 That said, Wahrer does a great job of laying out a compelling crime story。 While some moments felt a bit forced, it was overall a good and engaging read。 Rounding up from 3。5。 Anything recommended by Stephen King is ok by me, but this isn't quite what I'd expected。 While dramatic, moving and sometimes tense, it's not a thriller, in my opinion。 That said, Wahrer does a great job of laying out a compelling crime story。 While some moments felt a bit forced, it was overall a good and engaging read。 。。。more

I had a hard time at the onset but the writing is so engaging… the plot twist was totally unexpected。 I can see why #Caitlin Wahrer has been described as the new Agatha Christie!

abrupt ending with only an assumed outcome。

4。5。 This book is intense - the subject matter as well as how each character processes the event。 Super hard to read at times / not sure about that ending though

I can’t believe this is a debut novel! This book made me feel so many emotions。 The ending left me angry and I’m still not sure how I felt about it but I loved all the legal/criminal defense talk throughout the book。 Can’t wait to read more from Caitlin in the future

Very good story about a family。 Julia and Tony are married and Tony has a brother Nick。 Also Julia and Tony have 2 kids。 It takes one horrible event to throw the whole family into conflict on what to do and how to behave。 It also looks into how abuse as a child makes you a certain kind of person as you get older。 It looks at the dynamics of a marriage also。 I flew through this one and it is told by 4 different points of view which really brings the story a lot more depth。 Very good!!!

Lisa Currier

We’ll written, good character development。 The author tackles the issue os sexual assault from different perspectives。 Good family dynamics。

Deborah Bluminberg

Nick, a good looking, engaging college student, goes home with the wrong guy and is the victim of a horrific rape。 His half-brother, Tony, has always been Nick’s protector and savior。 Nick, Julia (sister-in-law) and Tony, married with children, have to deal with the police and criminal justice system while also dealing with the trauma dealt to their family。

Hannah Stoltz

This was a good family drama, but I think I was expecting more of a mystery when I first picked it up so I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get that。 Overall I enjoyed the characters and their development and there were even some jaw dropping moments。 Definitely a good debut novel and would consider reading more。 3。5 ⭐️

A fast and engrossing read。

For various reasons I’ve turned to much more than my usual one crappy summer read this year。 A few have surprised me, some have been unreadable, and some, like this one, I rip through like pulling off a bandaid。 Readable, just。 This could maybe be a solid three star read in more capable hands, with some major tweaks。 But alas, I need more depth of character and more astute descriptions of emotions。 Here you will find many chests feeling tight and inexplicable moves。 Just not for me。

Soo Rockett

Started off well but the last few chapters got rather tedious

Excellent book。 Caitlin is a great writer。 She draws from her experiences in her writing。 I look forward to reading more of her writing。

You’re guaranteed to guess the twist but it’s still a fun journey getting there。 Plus the victim’s story is really interesting。 The fight against feeling like a victim when something unthinkable happens to you。

This was definitely a heavy book to read, as it dealt with some dark subject matter, but I thought it was really well done。 As much as there were parts of the story that I didn't enjoy reading about, they were parts that are supposed to make you uncomfortable。 Despite that, I enjoyed the story and I especially liked that I didn't see the ending coming。 It set you up to think one thing, but than added another twist on top of that which made the story interesting right until the end。 I loved most This was definitely a heavy book to read, as it dealt with some dark subject matter, but I thought it was really well done。 As much as there were parts of the story that I didn't enjoy reading about, they were parts that are supposed to make you uncomfortable。 Despite that, I enjoyed the story and I especially liked that I didn't see the ending coming。 It set you up to think one thing, but than added another twist on top of that which made the story interesting right until the end。 I loved most of the characters and the fact that we got 4 different points of view, but I felt it harder to connect to Tony as much as the other three。 I also would have liked more from Nick's point of view, since I felt it was very Julia/Detective Rice heavy。 Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it! 。。。more

This novel looks at the many layers of grief – how one entire family can suffer from the events that happened to a single member。 It was heartbreaking and so human all at once。tThe events in The Damage hit hard, as I'm sure Caitlin Wahrer intended。 What I loved the most about this novel is how human each and every character felt。 They had hopes, dreams, and most importantly: flaws。 It made what happened to and around them feel all the more real。 Which naturally added quite a lot to the impact of the story。tThat alone would have been enough to make me appreciate this novel。 Throw in Caitlin Wahrer's writing style (detailed, emotive, and compelling) and the many twists and surprises, and it's really no wonder I found myself enjoy this book immensely。 I'm adding Wahrer to my list of must-read thriller authors。Read more reviews over at Quirky Cat's Fat Stacks> 。。。more
