Summary

Derry, Maine is just an ordinary town: familiar, well-ordered for the most part。 A good place to live。

It is a group of children who see - and feel - what makes Derry so horribly different。 In the storm drains, in the sewers, IT lurks, taking on the shape of every nightmare, each one's deepest dread。 Sometimes IT appears as an evil clown named Pennywise and sometimes IT reaches up, seizing, tearing, killing 。 。 。

Time passes and the children grow up, move away and forget。 Until they are called back, once more to confront IT as IT stirs and coils in the sullen depths of their memories, reaching up again to make their past nightmares a terrible present reality。

"The terror, which would not end for another twenty-eight years—if it ever did end—began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain。"And with these words, thus commenced a dark tale that would make it a modern classic of the horror genre。 This novel deserves more than 5 stars, but only of course if Goodreads would allow it。 There, however, as with some Stephen King novels, is a flaw, which in my opinion, lies with our dear o "The terror, which would not end for another twenty-eight years—if it ever did end—began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain。"And with these words, thus commenced a dark tale that would make it a modern classic of the horror genre。 This novel deserves more than 5 stars, but only of course if Goodreads would allow it。 There, however, as with some Stephen King novels, is a flaw, which in my opinion, lies with our dear ol' Big Bill。。 and Bevvie。Oh Bill, why'd you have to cheat on your wife? To remember what you did on the sewers? And Bevvie, I WORRY ABOUT YOU A LOT。 Why'd you do it with a married man? Because he appears to want it too? And you want me to think that this is all friendly? Or that all of this was circumstantial? I am apalled。 Bill was right afterwards。 You should've just done it with Ben。 He's been in love with you since forever。 I couldn't remember how may times I rolled my eyes while reading this scene。 I was like, "you guys! Henry Bowers is in Eddie's room! HENRY BOWERS!" Beep-Beep you two。I do not condone cheating in any form, be it real or fiction。 But then this book, is not about cheating or promiscuity, so having said that, I do not have a problem with the orgy scene in the sewers as it appears that it was a symbolism for the children's transition to adulthood (this coming from SK himself) and contrary to other readers' opinions, is in fact relevant to the story。 That goodreaders, definitely adds up to the shock value of IT (no pun intended)。 On the connotation that Pennywise was an alien, (or was that really just a connotation?) I don't think of it that way。 My analysis is that SK wants us readers to know that Pennywise is not of this world。 That SHE is of the Outside (Indeed, SHE IS from the macroverse)。 YES。 SHE。 Spoiler Alert*** Pennywise is a female! With eggs! And the book's length? I totally understand Mr。 King。 I think the book spanned 1153 pages long because of Mr。 King's really great character building (this includes every one of their backstories。 The one where the 5-year old Patrick Hockstetter killed his baby brother made gooseflesh stand on my arms) which has always been his technique in his books。 He gives the reader a very vivid view of the characters, and this makes them seem real rather than fictitious (Patrick Hockstetter really creeped me out。 See how effective King is?)。 IT has stirred in me emotions I myself am flabbergasted, including the emptiness that always, always comes whenever I finish a good and lengthy book because of my attachment to the characters。 I thus felt the need to post a review of this on Goodreads which I rarely do after I finish a book。 Also, I felt traumatized and spooked out mentally and emotionally, and I'm a grown woman。 Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, feeling the need to pee。 But then a picture of the bloody bathroom with Pennywise's voice from the sewers at the Marsh's apartment springs immediately to mind and then。。 oh what the hell。 I'll pee when the Sun rises。 If Bevvie can hold it, so do I! Well played, Mr。 King。 Well played。 Yowza yowza yowza。 。。。more

July monthly reading challenge: IT by Stephen king! Wow this was so very enjoyable。。。 and long。 I’ve had this since 2017 and always pushed it to the side because it was so long。 I decided to pick it up for the month of July and read about 40-50 pages a day and I got through it on time!! I would say for the story and character development as a whole, I would give this a 5/5 star, easily。 But unfortunately the unnecessary long ass length of this book, the often weird and disturbing scenes, and the July monthly reading challenge: IT by Stephen king! I believe everyone can find a piece of themselves in this novel。 Because this is a tale of the childhood, and the people you've shared it with。 It's a story of all the terrible things that kept you awake at night or that didn't allow you to go all alone in a dark room。 But it's also a reminiscence of riding a bicycle at full speed, eating ice cream on a hot summer day, building a secret lair and so much more! Finally, it's a legend of how you finally overcame your childhood fears and faced the adult life。Long before the end of the book I was already perceiving the Losers as my friends。 They all had different strengths and weaknesses, and the combination of those created the strong bond between them。 It felt upsetting seeing any of them being bullied or humiliated in any way。 Together, they gave each other courage, boldness, and endurance。 And they made a promise, which they had to honour, even if it means remembering their darkest nightmares。 (view spoiler)[It was sad to think that they almost completely forgot their childhood before Mike gathered them for the final confrontation with It。 But at least they never forgot the promise。] (hide spoiler)](view spoiler)[What was even sadder for me was the death of Eddie。 It's clear he did not possess the strongest personality。 Nor was he the bravest or smartest one。 But he was such a sweet person, despite being controlled for years by his overprotective mother。 He was ready to risk his life and health for Bill on multiple occasions, and finally he died for his friends。 I know Stan also died, but it happened so early in the book。。。and obviously Stan was the weakest link。 So, the emotional impact was not even half as strong as for Eddie。Still, one of the best moments the novel for me happens towards the end, when Beverly looks at a window and sees in the reflection the surviving Losers club members, joined by Eddie and Stan。 It's only a paragraph, so brief that it can be overlooked。 But it's so beautiful in showing the strong connection between the seven members of the club, and the fact that even death is not able to destroy this bond。 (sp) (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

End my suffering cause this book was not what I expected。 Cringe dialogue, confusing and boring。 Made me laugh instead of fear。

I thoroughly enjoy reading Stephen King's work, however It has no right to be as long as it is, for the detail and story it tells do not need this much indulgence。 That is the leading issue I have with King's writing。 He turns a delicate, great story (Misery) into something that is stretched past its breaking point。 It dilutes the horrors, and much of the issue with It is how much it tries to offer。 Comparing the past and present chapter by chapter is a nice enough way of showcasing two stories, I thoroughly enjoy reading Stephen King's work, however It has no right to be as long as it is, for the detail and story it tells do not need this much indulgence。 That is the leading issue I have with King's writing。 He turns a delicate, great story (Misery) into something that is stretched past its breaking point。 It dilutes the horrors, and much of the issue with It is how much it tries to offer。 Comparing the past and present chapter by chapter is a nice enough way of showcasing two stories, but the excerpts of detail in between it feel unnecessary or just a bit pointless。 At least it is written well。 。。。more

King is an amazing horror writer but I feel he has trouble writing the bad guys demise, but none the less, combined with his plausible writing ability it still goes as an amazing read for horror lovers and horror wannabes。
