I really love how the canon is used to add depth to this narrative。 Not to mention that the illustrations are so beautiful and expressive。 Love the close-ups of faces and the detailed drawings of Vader。

For a middle book it does a great job of having its own beginning and ending。 It skips a bit of the drama lived by the secondary characters, but makes up by presenting us the raw feelings of the protagonists。

Once in love, Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell find themselves on the opposite sides of a war。  Ciena is a staunch defender of the Empire and resents the Rebels in the deaths of her friends and allies on the Death Star。  Thane Kyrell has decided the atrocities committed by the Empire cannot be tolerated and has joined the Rebellion。  Despite a deep love and history between the two, a war has driven a wedge between them, and love may not prevail。Written and illustrated by Yusaku Komiyama, Star Wars:  L Once in love, Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell find themselves on the opposite sides of a war。  Ciena is a staunch defender of the Empire and resents the Rebels in the deaths of her friends and allies on the Death Star。  Thane Kyrell has decided the atrocities committed by the Empire cannot be tolerated and has joined the Rebellion。  Despite a deep love and history between the two, a war has driven a wedge between them, and love may not prevail。Written and illustrated by Yusaku Komiyama, Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 2 is a Yen Press manga comic。  Following Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 1, the series is an adaptation of Claudia Gray’s 2015 young-adult Star Wars novel Star Wars:  Lost Stars。Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 1 was a nice set-up。  It introduced both Ciena and Thane and places them squarely in well-known events to Star Wars fans。  Through the characters different perspectives, the series gives a humanizing feel to the Star Wars saga and looks at the “average man” caught up in the war。There have been a lot of jokes about Star Wars and the “average man”。  Kevin Smith’s Clerks talked about all the “private contractors” who died when the Death Star was destroyed and the people who were killed just doing their job。  This series seeks to explore that idea but not as a joke。  You had a functioning moon size military base destroyed with all the soldiers and employees on it…and that has consequences。The flipside to this is the flippant destruction of Alderaan by the Empire to essentially prove a point。  It would be like Earth and the entire population being completely wiped out because someone fibbed a bit。  Families, cities, and countries all destroyed to show the power of the Death Star。  It is war on an unimaginable scale, and that type of war leaves scars。The story manages to demonstrate the larger consequences of mass war by creating to humanized characters in Ciena and Thane。  While Thane is character generally seen in the right due to a series of movies based on the Rebellion winning, Ciena has some valid reasons to hate the Rebellion including the death of her friends and the pride of her family in her standings in Empire。  It is easy to bash the Empire and their heinous crimes, but it is harder to bash Ciena who believes in the good of the Empire。Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 2 is a nice continuation of a pretty fun manga。  Even if you don’t like manga, but you are a fan of Star Wars, the series might be fun read for you。  It is thoughtful and a quick read。  It also leaves you wanting more。  If you’ve read through volume 1 and volume 2, you want to see if Ciena and Thane end up together…or if the star-crossed lovers are destined to fail。  Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 2 is followed by the final volume Star Wars:  Lost Stars—Volume 3。 。。。more

Better than the previous volume, as well as than the next one。 (view spoiler)[I was a bit surprised of the inclusion of a sex scene, since the manga is very tame looking。 It's nothing too graphic but it's some good four pages of scenes in bed, so a heads up to parents that are gifting this to their kids。 There's also mention of suicide and slavery。 (hide spoiler)] I would say it's the most mature volume of the three。 Better than the previous volume, as well as than the next one。 (view spoiler)[I was a bit surprised of the inclusion of a sex scene, since the manga is very tame looking。 It's nothing too graphic but it's some good four pages of scenes in bed, so a heads up to parents that are gifting this to their kids。 There's also mention of suicide and slavery。 (hide spoiler)] I would say it's the most mature volume of the three。 。。。more

Really? To me, the imbalance weakens her character because as it is, her loyalty to the Empire (i。e。 shared target of hatred as the Empire) is that the Rebels killed Jude and (in this volume) that they'll hurt her parents more than they already are。 That's pretty weak already and then to cover it up with over-the-top "I'LL KILL YOU THANE!" pronouncements。。。 Eh。This volume certainly had more emotion and searching for what their real beliefs were about the galaxy after a full volume of world-building and backstory。 And finally getting back to the present, this volume simply had more punch to it, despite it having little in the ways of (punchy-punchy shoot-em-up) action。 。。。more

The second volume of lost stars was beautifully done, even though it omitted some of the details from the novel that I loved。

Volume 2 of Lost Stars picks up where the first left off, and we get to see how both Thane and Ciena react to the Empire's destruction of Alderaan and the Rebellion's subsequent retaliation against the Death Star。 It then covers the time period through The Empire Strikes Back and a little bit after that film。If you've already read the novel version of Lost Stars, you won't find much new here。 It has been a while since I read the original, but all of the major plot points seem to be here intact。 Volume 2 of Lost Stars picks up where the first left off, and we get to see how both Thane and Ciena react to the Empire's destruction of Alderaan and the Rebellion's subsequent retaliation against the Death Star。 It then covers the time period through The Empire Strikes Back and a little bit after that film。If you've already read the novel version of Lost Stars, you won't find much new here。 It has been a while since I read the original, but all of the major plot points seem to be here intact。 Like with the first volume, the pacing seems to be a bit faster in the manga, and I read through this installment a lot more quickly than I was expecting。I don't really have the expertise to know how this stacks up to other manga, but I have been enjoying the Japanese tropes applied to the Star Wars universe - it's a really interesting combination that results in some very expressive characters with their inner monologues ending up illustrated on the page。 I really liked the style and thought it worked well with the star-crossed-lovers theme of the story。If you like Star Wars and manga, then this is probably a must-read for you。 It's a lot of fun and very well done。 If you're just a Star Wars fan or just a manga fan, I think there's definitely something in it for you too。 。。。more

My review is essentially the same for the first volume, I think this is a strong adaption。 I’m familiar with the original novel so I can fill in the gaps myself, but it’s really fun seeing the visuals! There are some really great panels in this one, and I love the designs they went with。 I really love this story so it’s fun revisiting in this style!

In this volume we see the continuing stories of Thane and Ciena。 As Thane becomes disillusioned with the Empire's actions, Ciena is rising through the Imperial ranks and being handed important missions like rescuing a certain Sith Lord who has been adrift in space since the destruction of the Death Star。What I love most about this series is getting to see Ciena rendered on the pages。 The artist does a tremendous job of rendering Ciena。 It fills my heart so much to see her come alive from the pag In this volume we see the continuing stories of Thane and Ciena。 As Thane becomes disillusioned with the Empire's actions, Ciena is rising through the Imperial ranks and being handed important missions like rescuing a certain Sith Lord who has been adrift in space since the destruction of the Death Star。What I love most about this series is getting to see Ciena rendered on the pages。 The artist does a tremendous job of rendering Ciena。 It fills my heart so much to see her come alive from the pages of Claudia Gray's novel。 My one complaint is that the adaptation doesn't highlight how much important giving of ones word is in Ciena's culture。 In the manga she comes across as misguided and possibly unwilling to see the truth about the Empire, but it is very much tied to her cultural beliefs, and as Thane's culture is different he is able to make more changes。 Still a wonderful adaption and I look forward to the third volume in the series。 。。。more
