Summary

In 1926, Winnie-the-Pooh, a collection of stories about a rather stout, somewhat confused bear, was published in England and America。 The enchanting tales of Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Christopher Robin, and the others were an immediate success, and firmly established A。 A。 Milne, already an acclaimed dramatist, as a major author of children's books。 Winnie-the-Pooh was followed in 1928 by the second collection, The House at Pooh Corner, which continued the adventures from the Hundred Acre Wood and introduced bouncy, lovable Tigger。

Ernest H。 Shepard's brilliant illustrations were based on real toys owned by Milne's son, Christopher Robin。 The artist visited Cotchford Farm, the Milne country home in Sussex, where he sketched the child, the stuffed animals, and the surrounding countryside。

The world of Winnie-the-Pooh is as popular today as when it was first created。 Winnie-the-Pooh has appeared in twenty-one languages, among them Hebrew, Afrikaans, Esperanto, and Latin。

This deluxe volume brings all of the Pooh stories together in one full-color, large format book。 The texts are complete and unabridged, and all of the illustrations, each gloriously recolored, are included。 Here are the beloved stories of Pooh stuck in Rabbit's doorway, of gloomy Eeyore and his nearly forgotten birthday, of playing Poohsticks on the bridge, and so many more。

Elegant yet simple, whimsical yet wise, this classic edition is a book to savor and treasure。

Read with my nephew。 We both enjoyed it so much。 I was never a big Pooh fan until I actually read these books。 There’s so much in them that like aside jokes for the adults。 Not inappropriate for kids, just over their heads。 And I loved it!

Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind。"Pooh!" he whispered。"Yes, Piglet?""Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw。 "I just wanted to be sure of you。" Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind。"Pooh!" he whispered。"Yes, Piglet?""Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw。 "I just wanted to be sure of you。" 。。。more

I read this as part of a research project for school, where I studied the impact of post-World War I literature written by veterans of the war in Germany and Great Britain。 There are many reasons that these stories and characters remain popular and classic even nearly a century after their initial publication, but a major contributor is that this book often feels like it was not only written for children, but also adults。 A。 A。 Milne wrote this at a time when British society was recovering from I read this as part of a research project for school, where I studied the impact of post-World War I literature written by veterans of the war in Germany and Great Britain。 There are many reasons that these stories and characters remain popular and classic even nearly a century after their initial publication, but a major contributor is that this book often feels like it was not only written for children, but also adults。 A。 A。 Milne wrote this at a time when British society was recovering from all the scars of the war, and as a veteran himself, he was also finding the way back to re-engaging with his family and his society after combat experience。 This book presents a wonderfully refreshing simplicity, and a nostalgia for simpler times, but I think even in today's age, it encourages community and engagement with the other "stuffed animals" in our own hundred acre woods- especially those that we may find so different from us that a friendship is impossible- as rabbit frequently finds out。 It's a wholesome read, and the division of the chapters makes it perfect for reading to your kids at bedtime。 There aren't as many pictures as some of today's books for kids, but in that way it encourages a bit more imaginative engagement。 I definitely recommend its placement on anyone's shelf。 。。。more

Just absolutely wonderful。 The turns of phrase are so different to any other books that I’m baffled as to why I never read this as a child。 I now find myself writing in the style of the narrative!

As a kid, Winnie the Pooh was my favorite。 Even today I still love Winnie the Pooh and I don’t really know why。 But I don’t care to think about it。 I just enjoy him。 This book was filled with his stories and was fun to read, but definitely isn’t a book most people would like to read in my opinion。 It’s for kids but that’s okay。 In the end, I enjoyed reading it, but I don’t think many people would。

Finally read the book of my beloved (albeit Disney version) childhood friend。 So cute!! So funny!! Audible members can listen to a free download with none other than Dame Judy Dench as co-narrator and Stephen Fry as Pooh!! As much fun as the book was, I still love my Disney Tigger。 But Pooh may now be forever entwined with Stephen Fry…

I read this out loud to my sweet baby, a little every day, for the last 4 or 5 months。 It was such a calm, sweet experience。 She would sit in my lap and play with her toys while I introduced her to the wonderful world of Pooh and gang。

It was fun reading this book。 However, the characters are slightly different than I remember them being。 Everything about them is slightly more exaggerated。 I was also surprised that Tigger wasn’t in the books until more than halfway through。 It was fun reading these and revisiting old friends though。

Margaret

Such sweet stories that are drenched in nostalgia。

I've read these stories multiple times to my kids, and every time they are even more delightful。 There were many times that I was laughing out loud as we listened on audio (I've read the physical books and listened to them at different times)。 The wit and depth are a rare find in children's literature。 I've read these stories multiple times to my kids, and every time they are even more delightful。 There were many times that I was laughing out loud as we listened on audio (I've read the physical books and listened to them at different times)。 The wit and depth are a rare find in children's literature。 。。。more

This book was read aloud by me to my month old son and finished it when he was two。 An absolute beautiful book, I developed voices for the characters and will read it all over again when asked。

This is a story of Christopher Robin and his toys that lived in a magical(?) forest: Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, Kanga, and others。 I am not sure how to describe a plot, but I need to do it because the book is very much different from the (well-known) Disney abomination。 For this reason I absolutely refuse to use Disney's depiction of the folks above。 Let me show you the real deal:Christopher Robin's father (author) tells his son stories about life of the toys in the forest。 Winnie This is a story of Christopher Robin and his toys that lived in a magical(?) forest: Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, Kanga, and others。 I am not sure how to describe a plot, but I need to do it because the book is very much different from the (well-known) Disney abomination。 For this reason I absolutely refuse to use Disney's depiction of the folks above。 Let me show you the real deal:Christopher Robin's father (author) tells his son stories about life of the toys in the forest。 Winnie is often the main character, but almost all other characters get a chance to be a star in their own story。 Most of the stories are amusing, some outright funny and none are boring。 I read this book as a child quite a few times and never got bored, I just reread it being an adult and it was still not boring。 It never tries to speak to its children readers as if they were retards and thus it has appeal for adults as well。 Would I recommend this book to parents to read their kids? Absolutely。 Would I recommend it for parents themselves? Yes read it, it is not too late。 In this case it never is。 Just ignore Disney horrible retelling。 This one is not recommended for anybody older than 4 year old。 As to rating, any book I reread multiple times during my childhood deserves 5 stars by default。 。。。more

I did not grow up reading these。 I grew up with the Disney cartoons, which I think I liked fairly well。 Pretty sure I related to Tigger。However, I'm a big Stephen Fry fan and when I found a dramatized audiobook with him and Judi Dench and other new-to-me but stellar actors I picked it up and I am almost infatuated with Pooh-bear。 It was on steady rotation with my kids and I didn't even mind! OKAY!" as most parents will agree, this never happens。)Since then I got the c I did not grow up reading these。 I grew up with the Disney cartoons, which I think I liked fairly well。 Pretty sure I related to Tigger。However, I'm a big Stephen Fry fan and when I found a dramatized audiobook with him and Judi Dench and other new-to-me but stellar actors I picked it up and I am almost infatuated with Pooh-bear。 It was on steady rotation with my kids and I didn't even mind! This book gets 15 stars。 This was a first time read for me, but it is now my favorite kids book hands down。 It is cleverly written but simple to understand, touching yet funny stories that only take 15 minutes or so to read。 The illustrations are so charming, and Milne does this thing where he capitalizes words that shouldn't be capitalized。 He will say "Piglet, you're a Small Animal," which adds a new level of meaning to the dialogue。 He uses this device all the time! I loved reading the stories that I grew up watching on the small screen。 I was pleasantly surprised to find that, while silly, the language wasn't childish and it turned out to be a much more satisfying read than I expected。 I loved reading the stories that I grew up watching on the small screen。 I was pleasantly surprised to find that, while silly, the language wasn't childish and it turned out to be a much more satisfying read than I expected。 。。。more

More of a 2。5This one kinda tinted my childhood memories of Pooh。 He was fat shamed and called stupid and useless trough the whole book。 That made me really sad。Christopher Robin and the others were not that great either。。。 I guess children books were different back then。
