Summary

She is pretty and talented - sweet sixteen and never been kissed。 He is seventeen; gorgeous and on the brink of a bright future。 And now they have fallen in love。 But。。。 they are brother and sister。

Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings。 Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings。 As defacto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast。 And the stress of their lives—and the way they understand each other so completely—has also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be。 So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love。 Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love。 They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue。 And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right。 As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: a love this devastating has no happy ending。

。。。more

I get that he's 13, but he's in a gang, he smokes, he does whatever he wants, has a girlfriend。 Seems to me that he doesn't want to be babied。 why weren't his problems ever resolved?? I get babying Willa cause she's five!! But Kit?? No boundaries, no consequences, no discipline, no talk about how his actions can affect him and his surroundings。 Nothing!! He was never held accountable for his actions。 I get why the mom didn't do anything cause it'd be out of character for her, but neither did the phony siblings parents。 Like if they're stepping in as pseudo parents, wouldn't it make more sense for them to at least even attempt at curbing his behavior?? Or are we just supposed to feed them and hope they don't turn out to be the ungrateful, thoughtless, entitled Kit? His character was just unbelievable to me。 For a kid that comes from a family as broken and dysfunctional as his, we never saw him understand the situation that he was born into。 Now, I'm not saying we have to accept our lot in life not strive for what we want。 At all。 But how did he retain such an entitled, pampered and naive view of the world。 How did he retain his innocence!! But most of all, I think Kit was the most pitiful character in this。 Kit's life will forever be altered and fucked because everyone was too chicken to set boundaries for him。 I mean, with his pettiness, he played a part in killing his brother!! How does one ever recover from that??While the author did a lot of research in the environment surrounding this type of relationships, she couldn't make one, just one, believable character。 The kids felt fake, kit was just added in to be a villain。 The mom is textbook。 The pseudo parents, our main characters, felt too mature with their patience and understanding for the younger siblings and mom。 Like the author is actually trying to sell that the pseudo parents, at just 16 and 17, have enough restraint to put others above their everything?? Really?? Aight。 Imma stop here before I get all worked up again and start another long rant 。。。more

That was utterly heartbreaking。 So well written, so deeply emotional and soul destroying。 I can’t believe it took me so long to read this book, I thought it was going to creep me out but I really didn’t, Lochan and Maya were so much more partners than siblings。 They’re live was so deep and achingly painful。 That ending has killed me, throughly and without a doubt, killed me。
