Summary

In this powerhouse of a novel, Kristin Hannah explores the intimate landscape of a troubled marriage with this provocative and timely portrait of a husband and wife, in love and at war。

All marriages have a breaking point。 All families have wounds。 All wars have a cost。 。 。 。

Like many couples, Michael and Jolene Zarkades have to face the pressures of everyday lifechildren, careers, bills, choreseven as their twelve-year marriage is falling apart。 Then a deployment sends Jolene deep into harm's way and leaves defense attorney Michael at home, unaccustomed to being a single parent to their two girls。 As a mother, it agonizes Jolene to leave her family, but as a solider, she has always understood the true meaning of duty。 In her letters home, she paints a rose-colored version of her life on the front lines, shielding her family from the truth。 But war will change Jolene in ways that none of them could have foreseen。 When tragedy strikes, Michael must face his darkest fear and fight a battle of his ownfor everything that matters to his family。

At once a profoundly honest look at modern marriage and a dramatic exploration of the toll war takes on an ordinary American family, Home Front is a story of love, loss, heroism, honor, and ultimately, hope。

How this book had a 4。13 star rating is beyond me。 It was so saccharine and predictable, I can’t count the number of eye rolls I did。 As for that daughter, Betsy, she was so awful as to be unbelievable。 I certainly would never have let my teenagers get away with that behaviour。 And that constant ‘love you to the moon and back’ 🙄

I love Kristin Hannah。 This book wasn't super deep and it didn't leave me with lots to think about; I don't even know if I'll ever come back to it again。 But I cried about 5 times while reading it so the story touched me deeply even so。 I love Kristin Hannah。 This book wasn't super deep and it didn't leave me with lots to think about; I don't even know if I'll ever come back to it again。 But I cried about 5 times while reading it so the story touched me deeply even so。 。。。more

I never emotionally got connected with the characters。 The ending left more to be desired。

Probably more of a 3。5。 Sometimes a bit predictable and clichéd, but still a good read dealing with tough subjects。

Kristin Hannah strikes again。 I loved this as it’s a perspective I’ve never known before - a female soldier coming home from war。 A heartbreakingly beautiful story。 Have tissues near。

This was a good summer read。 It went quickly, the characters were interesting and the topics were current and engaging。 I really liked it。

I’m a huge Kristin Hannah fan… I love all of her stories。 This was a beautiful story with strong characters。

A genuinely emotional read!! Kristin Hannah is becoming one of my favorites!

A book that touches you in so many ways - learning about the lives of service men and women and the huge toll on their families, the war in Irag, and PTSD。 Hannah does not sugar coat the events, and tragedies are not spared。 The metaphors such as broken bodies and broken lives make this a good story and memorable read。

Amanda

WowIf you have any connections to anyone who has served this really makes you think about what they have experienced returning。 Scary stuff, but I believe every word of it。

Kristin Hannah does it again! I’ve had this book on my bookshelf for I don’t know how long, and now I’m kicking myself for not reading it sooner。 I love the twist on the solider goes to war plot, the details of the family dynamics, and the love between two female best friends。 A real tear jerker and I loved every moment of it。

Love Kristin Hannah's writing and in this one she once again has a strong but vulnerable women as the main character。 Jolene is someone you could easily know and be friends with and want to help through their struggles。 Hannah writes so you feel you are there in that part of history, in this case the Iraq war, and the time of soldiers coming home。 Highly recommend any of her books, have to say, she is the author whom has made me start to read historical fiction。 Love Kristin Hannah's writing and in this one she once again has a strong but vulnerable women as the main character。 Jolene is someone you could easily know and be friends with and want to help through their struggles。 Hannah writes so you feel you are there in that part of history, in this case the Iraq war, and the time of soldiers coming home。 Highly recommend any of her books, have to say, she is the author whom has made me start to read historical fiction。 。。。more

I liked this book, but I didn't love it。 This is the second Kristin Hannah book that I've read, and they both had well drawn if somewhat flawed characters。 When I saw the title, Home Front, I thought about WWII, but this book takes place in modern times and the war is the Iraq war。 The book is about relationships, friends, and family。 It is also about healing。 I recommend this book, and I know I will read other books by Kristin Hannah。 I liked this book, but I didn't love it。 This is the second Kristin Hannah book that I've read, and they both had well drawn if somewhat flawed characters。 When I saw the title, Home Front, I thought about WWII, but this book takes place in modern times and the war is the Iraq war。 The book is about relationships, friends, and family。 It is also about healing。 I recommend this book, and I know I will read other books by Kristin Hannah。 。。。more

“Play without a net, flygirl。 Because even from here, I’ve got your six。”😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭That’s all I can say。 Will I ever read a Kristin Hannah book that doesn’t make me cry? I sure hope not。5 glowing stars。 6 stars。 7 stars。 ALL the stars。 I just can’t。

I really enjoy Kristin Hannah's writing。 The characters are so real and her descriptions make everything easy to picture。 This plot was a new one for me, featuring the wife, a Marine, deployed to Iraq and what that meant to the husband and children left behind。 The realistic emotions of the family members were so relatable and I was cheering on this family to make the best of the situation, especially at the end。 I really enjoy Kristin Hannah's writing。 The characters are so real and her descriptions make everything easy to picture。 This plot was a new one for me, featuring the wife, a Marine, deployed to Iraq and what that meant to the husband and children left behind。 The realistic emotions of the family members were so relatable and I was cheering on this family to make the best of the situation, especially at the end。 。。。more

I am not someone who shows emotions easily and I found tears building many times as I read this beautiful story。 I love a book that reframes life and love?

This was a quick read and i found myself skimming at times。 The plot was predictable and the characters held no special interest。 An attempt at one unique character was tried, the boy next door。 But other than his choice of dress there was nothing more than a sweet kind kid。 I could have guessed at the PTs personality and size。 eAlthough no other woman in the husbands life he wanted a divorce? Every character was helpful, wonderful, compassionate except for the 2 teen bullies。 Wish i could find This was a quick read and i found myself skimming at times。 The plot was predictable and the characters held no special interest。 An attempt at one unique character was tried, the boy next door。 But other than his choice of dress there was nothing more than a sweet kind kid。 I could have guessed at the PTs personality and size。 eAlthough no other woman in the husbands life he wanted a divorce? This story didn’t get good until about page 250。 Kristin Hannah’s character development of Betsy and LuLu was not good。 Betsy’s dialogue was so unnatural, as was LuLu’s。 These two characters made it hard for me to like anything about this book。 But I did appreciate the hardships of the soldiers。

Deanna

Trauma in childhood, marriage on the rocks, deployment, injury。 I was brought to my knees by so much that happened in this story。 I had read many mixed reviews but as a 40 something married woman with a husband who has deployed and lives with PTSD, this book was 5 plus stars to me。 It is not just a book of loss, but also of hope。

Jessy

4。5She did it again。 You care about all of the characters, you cry。 As with most of her books I recommend not reading the back before going in for maximum emotional impact。 Took me a little while to get fully invested hence the 4。5 not 5。

Sharon Annese

Sad, had to put it down several times, didn’t think I could get through the book。 It was very realistic and felt more like non fiction。

Bev Totten

I couldn’t stop listening to this book! It seemed so true to life! So poignant and realistic! Loved it!
