Summary

The Metamorphosis is a novella by Franz Kafka， first published in 1915。 It has been cited as one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is studied in colleges and universities across the Western world。 The story begins with a traveling salesman， Gregor Samsa， waking to find himself transformed （metamorphosed） into a large， monstrous insect-like creature。 The cause of Samsa's transformation is never revealed， and Kafka himself never gave an explanation。 The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister， who are repulsed by the horrible， verminous creature Gregor has become。

Kafka el bicho¿Alguna vez te has sentido como un bicho en tu familia？ por hacer o pensar distinto a cómo tu familia quiere que lo hagas， por actuar con cierta independencia y por hacer lo que tú quieres y no lo que la sociedad o familia quiere que hagas; siento que eso transmite Franz en esta mini novela， sus sentimientos de impotencia hacia lo distinto que era el ese su familia， el roce violento que tenía con su padre， que hasta lo agredía y pisoteaba， la única razón por la cual no lo mataba es Kafka el bicho¿Alguna vez te has sentido como un bicho en tu familia？ por hacer o pensar distinto a cómo tu familia quiere que lo hagas， por actuar con cierta independencia y por hacer lo que tú quieres y no lo que la sociedad o familia quiere que hagas; siento que eso transmite Franz en esta mini novela， sus sentimientos de impotencia hacia lo distinto que era el ese su familia， el roce violento que tenía con su padre， que hasta lo agredía y pisoteaba， la única razón por la cual no lo mataba es porque era su hijo， pero eso no le quitaba las ganas， sólo lo limitaba。 Esta obra lleva el “me siento como un extraño o intruso en mi familia” al nivel más literal。 Y refleja de una manera muy humana la empatía que siente el “bicho” con su familia por el mal tiempo que les ha hecho pasar y el sufrimiento que tiene al no poder （tal vez no querer） hacer nada para cambiarlo。Julio César decía que "es imposible no convertirte en lo que las personas piensan de ti"， me pregunto si es el caso en esta historia， que su comportamiento se haya hecho el de un insecto que repudia la presencia de personas por el trato que le daban， como si él fuera un insecto， o es que siempre fue así y por eso lo trataban con tanta malicia。 Recomiendo este libro， no te quita mucho tiempo de encima y la verdad su historia es rica en reflexión y hasta un poco de sentido del humor。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 I had always thought this book was a supernatural-biological-thriller of some sorts， hence when I read through the first twenty pages needless to say I was a bit confused with family’s lack of curiosity towards the extremely supernatural that had happened。 As if this was known to happen to people。 Soon realised the whole bug narrative was a parallel to a terminally diseased family member with the illness I guess being of psychiatric nature。 And I found this to be more fascinating than what I had I had always thought this book was a supernatural-biological-thriller of some sorts， hence when I read through the first twenty pages needless to say I was a bit confused with family’s lack of curiosity towards the extremely supernatural that had happened。 As if this was known to happen to people。 Soon realised the whole bug narrative was a parallel to a terminally diseased family member with the illness I guess being of psychiatric nature。 And I found this to be more fascinating than what I had presumed。 I had also expected to be a lot more sympathetic to Gregor but somehow didn’t。I gather that the title Metamorphosis isn’t about the bug at all， it is about the family。 And how at the end they escape the shadows of their cocoon and are metamorphosed into a freely flying creature leaving whatever experiences that had haunted them， including their house behind。 。。。more
