After being pretty underwhelmed at the previous entry to the series I read this one mostly because I was under the impression that it was the last book in the series and I was curious about how Horowitz would wrap things up (I was correct but missing the detail that it is the last book in the series so far)。 The book took a while to get going (and as it was doing so Horowitz dropped some astonishingly incorrect 'factoids' that had me speechless)。 Like I understand that Horowitz was never a Girl After being pretty underwhelmed at the previous entry to the series I read this one mostly because I was under the impression that it was the last book in the series and I was curious about how Horowitz would wrap things up (I was correct but missing the detail that it is the last book in the series so far)。 The book took a while to get going (and as it was doing so Horowitz dropped some astonishingly incorrect 'factoids' that had me speechless)。 Like I understand that Horowitz was never a Girl Guide but while it is one organisation it operates differently in different countries and what he described was American Guides in England! He also calls a slip knot a reef knot, which come on those are like the two most basic knots (besides tying your shoelaces) and they are verydifferent! There is also an offhand remark about there being no Adidas sold in Brazil which is just so out there I don't know how to deal with it。 Does this man not know how popular football is in Brazil? Does he think it's just solid Favellas?? I would like to remind Mr Horowitz that having a highly detailed writing style means you have to ensure the details you put in are correct or maybe don't write like that? Small but glaring inaccuracies aside, once Alex became involved in the story things became pretty fun! This book is much less flashy than other entries in the series with Alex cut off from his usual wacky gadgets as well as any outside help so it was interesting to see him only able to rely on himself。 There is one particular situation Alex gets landed in that was extremely tense and exciting。 The villains introduced in this book are effectively a Scorpia replacement - but possibly more ominous - and I enjoyed the unusual cult angle taken (as opposed to the 'be careful who you bully in school - they might become famous and then try to kill every child in the country decades later in retaliation' type motives that the series is more accustomed to。 It was nice to have a villain that was just nasty with no attempts at moralising and I really felt for the Nightshade operatives and wondered what was to become of them。 。。。more

Still enjoying Alex's story, twelve books in! Horowitz gave a fresh angle with a new set of enemies and tactics。 Should there be another book in the series, I'll keep reading! Wow!!! Just…WOW! I really don’t have any critics for this book and there’s honestly not much I have to say about it。 And I consider that a good thing。 But what I will say is that the whole plot was genius and this was by far the hardest task Alex has had to take on, and it was absolutely epic!! Even Horowitz has said that his favourite escape of Alex’s was at the end of THIS book。 If that doesn’t say much, I don’t know what does!! TL;DR: gripping story, amazing writing。 A little bit predictive but exciting at the same time。 Although it took me a lot longer than I expected to finish this book, it was an amazing one。 Being my first audiobook, it took me some time getting used to listen to something on the phone when there are dozens of distractions ( as I'm wtiting this a notification comes buzzing and reminding me that the app has got my shopping covered )。 Read a book is quite different。 You have the book and that's it。 F TL;DR: gripping story, amazing writing。 A little bit predictive but exciting at the same time。 Although it took me a lot longer than I expected to finish this book, it was an amazing one。 Being my first audiobook, it took me some time getting used to listen to something on the phone when there are dozens of distractions ( as I'm wtiting this a notification comes buzzing and reminding me that the app has got my shopping covered )。 Read a book is quite different。 You have the book and that's it。 For me listening through the phone was harder than I expected but the book always brought me back as I wanted to know how things unfold。 It was a little bit predictive but I still always found myself wondering what happens next and how。 The story is good。 I did miss gadgets though - like I did in the previous novel。 。。。more

Ok, so, got this from a friend the other day。 It's BRILLIANT。 The plot is brilliant, characters are amazing, but one slight downside is how at the end it was a bit rushed。 It could have been that it was an unexpected ending, I'm not sure。 But either way, it was abrupt。 Besides from that though, the plot is one of the best in the AR series(Alex Rider series)。 I would say like 10+ for the age rating, maybe 12+。 Ok, so, got this from a friend the other day。 It's BRILLIANT。 The plot is brilliant, characters are amazing, but one slight downside is how at the end it was a bit rushed。 It could have been that it was an unexpected ending, I'm not sure。 But either way, it was abrupt。 Besides from that though, the plot is one of the best in the AR series(Alex Rider series)。 I would say like 10+ for the age rating, maybe 12+。 。。。more

It couldve ben the fifth 🤔 the one where he BASE jumps and goes on a school trip to Venice。 Ah it was the 5th cos Scorpia was in Venice。 Sorry anyway without Tom, Alex would b dead, so Tom is definitely not a minor character and I dont know where thats come from。 I actually really love the Julius Grief comeback in Nightshade。 I like how Horowitz keeps finding new ways to bring Julius back。 Its not boring at all。 Tbh tho Alex did a crap job at impersonating him when he was in the Nightshade base aha luckily they dont kno what Julius was like 😂 I imagine there will b some people out there who dont like how everything keeps coming down to Julius Grief all the time but i acc think despite him being an absolute loon, hes such an important character and properly helps to shape Alex’s character arc。 Especially in Scorpia Rising。 Which means that the second book is so significant and the TV series had better do it justice。 U kno what else I like about Nightshade? No plotholes! I mean there r little ones here and there, but not major ones which is good! Also there’s acc not a lot of: “Alex is literally on the brink of death omg omg there’s literally no one else to help him hes gonna die。 Oh look its Wolf。 I thought hed gone back to Wales。 But nope。 Hes here。 To save Alex。 Yay。。。?!” Which i like aha too much of Alex being a jammy sod can get ridiculous (*coughs The entirety of Never Say Die and Ark Angel)。You kno what else i liked? The new setup aha。 The book is split into 4 and are named after the books in the Bible。 I mean at first i was confused but then I got it and I rlly liked the idea behind it 😂 Of course its not completely perfect and there’s a major typo I want to highlight。 This is when Dr Flint, “Julius” (Alex undercover) and Freddy r all in a room together because “Julius” and Freddy are going to escape the prison。 Idk if anybody else noticed, but Dr Flint used Alex’s actual name。 She said “I’m sorry Alex but you know youre not allowed out of the room。” IN FRONT OF FREDDY (my friends kno this because I freaked out at this point 😂) Either it was just Alex’s pure luck that Freddy didnt pick up on it or it was a typo (i think it was this because Alex didnt register it either)。 Another thing is, i thought the whole point of Alex’s character arc was the fact that he was literally alone in all of his missions。 He did it by himself and MI6 did fuck all except send him to the missions and give him gadgets。 I thought the whole idea of Alex was that he did this all alone so y tf in Nightshade was everyone acting like its a big thing that he has to save London by himself again? Hes gone to space! ALONE!! Actually another thing about Tom and Jack- obviously i cant prove this but I have a sneaking suspicion based on what Horowitz has said in interviews about the tv series that he only made Jack and Tom have more of an appearance in Nightshade because of the tv series thats recently come out。 And i dont know why, but that gets on my nerves because idk like I suppose if i hadnt heard the interview about them playing minor roles, i would probably have enjoyed the fact hes included them- in fact i kinda do- but the fact he might have only put them in because of what he said in the interview, rlly gets to me aha idk y。 MAJOR TRIALS OF APOLLO SPOILERS DOWN BELOW⬇️Maybe because it reminds me a bit of what Rick Riordan’s (author of the Percy Jackson series (and more but i wont go into that) done with the death of Jason Grace? He only killed him off because nobody was reading his books and he needed something shocking to encourage his readers to continue with the series but Jason didnt actually need to die。 And if he wanted more readers, HE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED WRITING。 Also NIGHTSHADES ENDING WTF O MY GODS WHAT。 Y WOULD HOROWITZ LEAVE THIS ON A CLIFFHANGER NO WTF PLZNO! Plz dont make the same mistake Riordan did Horowitz please 😭 know when to stop writing pleasssee😭 Sorry as you can see i’m starting to go off on a bit of a tangent。 Okee back down to earth。You kno what I wouldve maybe liked to see more of? Idk sone emotional suff about how hes impersonating Julius someone responsible for literally scarring Alex’s life。 Ik its supposed to b aimed for like a younger audience but whenever Alex did reflect on this, it seemed so passive。 He just kinda said it nonchalantly as if it was a fact。 You know what else is rlly confusing? Alex’s age and the timeline the series is set in。 If we’re being official about it, the series started in 2000 (o my gods I wasnt even born then) and the character Alex was 14 at the start of it all。 Then he turns 15 in like the 5th book。。。? -Im already confused aha- so really, its only been like 2 yrs so Nightshade is set in 2002。 What the fuck。 Ok no thats weird。 Ive always imagined the series to just be like in the same timeline as us。 And its just not。 Okee Horowitz did not think this one thru。 THIS CHARACTER HAS GONE TO SPACE STOPPED MILLIONS OF TERRORIST ATTACKS UPSTAGED SOME WEIRD CHARITIES THAT WERENT DOING WHAT THEY SAID THEY WERE DOING (Horowitz has a bit of a theme of this, he’s put it in Nightshade too 😂)DEFEATED SCORPIA AND LIKE DONE LOTS MORE IN THE SPACE OF 2 YRS OR LESS WHAT THE FUCK?! Okee。 Nightshade has just mentioned the yr 2014。 I am。 So。 Confused。 WHAT TIMELINE IS THIS SET IN?!?Also the TV series will totally spin this around and pretend its set in 2019 or something instead。 I’ll tell u after I watch it aha。 I have a feeling there will b a huge rant 😂 now my brain hurts from doing the maths so bye 😂 i also did a newspaper article on this issue and tagged Anthony Horowitz on Twitter and he actually agreed 😂 (ish)So, Nightshade was very enjoyable。 But at the end of the day, I still think the series would have had more impact had it ended on Scorpia Rising。 The fandom’s small as it is and whilst I kinda appreciate Alex doesnt belong in America with the Pleasures, and he should b in London with Tom and Jack, Scorpia Rising went so dark and it was fucking brilliant。 Perhaps if Alex had only been made to think Jack was dead in Scorpia Rising and then at the end she comes back or something idk。 I think what m trying to say is i didnt need a whole badly written book about Jack coming back when Horowitz couldve just done that in a few lines at the end of Scorpia Rising and finished the series there。 Alex wouldve gone back to school, done bis GCSEs A Levels (maybe) University(maybe) and probably inevitably ended up as a spy again aha 😂 also Alex has the opportunity to do his exams 😭 we dont cos of corona 😭 which is good and bad。 And thats a debate for another day。 。。。more
