Summary

In this gripping mystery, an FBI Agent’s search for her sister clashes with a military investigator's high-stakes case, leading them both deep into a global conspiracy—from which neither of them will escape unscathed。

For many long years, Atlee Pine was tormented by uncertainty after her twin sister, Mercy, was abducted at the age of six and never seen again。 Now, just as Atlee is pressured to end her investigation into Mercy's disappearance, she finally gets her most promising breakthrough yet: the identity of her sister's kidnapper, Ito Vincenzo。

With time running out, Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum race to Vincenzo's last known location in Trenton, New Jersey—and unknowingly stumble straight into John Puller's case, blowing his arrest during a drug ring investigation involving a military installation。

Stunningly, Pine and Puller's joint investigation uncovers a connection between Vincenzo's family and a breathtaking scheme that strikes at the very heart of global democracy。 Peeling back the layers of deceit, lies and cover-ups, Atlee finally discovers the truth about what happened to Mercy。 And that truth will shock Pine to her very core。

Number 3 in the Atlee Pine series。 i didn't read the others but it stands alone。 I can infer。 Sort of a page turner。 There is a long term story about finding her twin but each book focuses on another crmie which is solved, this one about national issues。 Number 3 in the Atlee Pine series。 i didn't read the others but it stands alone。 I can infer。 Sort of a page turner。 There is a long term story about finding her twin but each book focuses on another crmie which is solved, this one about national issues。 。。。more

I love this character!

This intriguing mystery novel was a thrill a minute ride to the last word and page。 What a story。 Recommend to all readers looking for a terrific, humane and yet heartbreaking search for a twin sister taken away at age six only to later learn what really happened 30 years later by her FBI twin。。。

Another cliff hanger。

Third book in the Atlee Pine series and I'm already looking forward to number four。 With an appearance from one of Baldacci's other characters, John Puller, it just makes this one that much better。 Third book in the Atlee Pine series and I'm already looking forward to number four。 With an appearance from one of Baldacci's other characters, John Puller, it just makes this one that much better。 。。。more

Very good

Whew。 Lots of twists and turns here。 Just when you think one thing is going to happen in comes another character and the story heads off in another direction。 Somehow the author does this without slowing or totally digressing from the protagonists main mission - to find out what happened to her twin sister。 I loved seeing a bit of the emotion finally come to the forefront。 I’m surprised it took so long for the main character to come a little unglued。 Can’t wait for the next one!

Dang! The next book doesn’t come out until November。 I LOVED the addition of the Puller brothers to this novel。 And Carol is still my favorite。

Sally

Too much to unpack。 A story too big for one book。 Great characters though。

Steven Hall

Keeps your interest all the way through the book。 Interesting characters。

I accidentally read a quarter of this book before realizing it was part of a series, so I stopped and read the other two before continuing。 This book has a lot of revelations about the main character, and I thoroughly enjoyed it。

Atlee continues her search for her twin sister and ,od course, manages to get involved in a different case。 A bit convoluted at times but another nail biter to be sure

This is now a few books back so memory has faded。 I remember liking it but felt that having read the earlier books would have been a great help。 The author does fill in some of the blanks but I was aware that there was a great deal I didn't quite follow。 I listened to the audiobook and found all the names hard to remember。 But the book was well written and the plot held my attention。 (It claims to be about Atlee Pine but is very much featuring another detective, John Puller, too。) Recommended bu This is now a few books back so memory has faded。 I remember liking it but felt that having read the earlier books would have been a great help。 The author does fill in some of the blanks but I was aware that there was a great deal I didn't quite follow。 I listened to the audiobook and found all the names hard to remember。 But the book was well written and the plot held my attention。 (It claims to be about Atlee Pine but is very much featuring another detective, John Puller, too。) Recommended but read Books 1 and 2 first! 。。。more

Atlee Pine is back for the third instalment of this riveting series and is still looking for her sister, Mercy。 This time she teams up with military investigator John Puller, as she zeroes in on the man she suspects took her twin sister when they were children。 This also gets her tangled up in an investigation of drugs on an army base, and a government conspiracy that hampers the investigators progress。With sidekick and co-worker, Carol Blum, at her side, Pine her usual brand of take-no-prisoner Atlee Pine is back for the third instalment of this riveting series and is still looking for her sister, Mercy。 This time she teams up with military investigator John Puller, as she zeroes in on the man she suspects took her twin sister when they were children。 This also gets her tangled up in an investigation of drugs on an army base, and a government conspiracy that hampers the investigators progress。With sidekick and co-worker, Carol Blum, at her side, Pine her usual brand of take-no-prisoners justice to a story than weaves a tight narrative from start to finish, and also sets up book four。 。。。more

I liked it until the ending。 I feel like it could have used one more chapter。 Also was super confused with Carol’s role the entire time。

Another must read by David Baldacci。 I am wondering how many books until Attlee finds Mercy。 I loved that the character of John Puller was pulled back in。 Good mystery, intrigue, corruption, etc。 some surprises in the end。

Wild and crazy ride with Atlee Pine and John Puller, working their own cases and helping each other out。 The search for Mercy Pine suddenly moves rapidly to a multitude of revelations and “oh wow” moments to a cliffhanger ending that has me already looking forward to the next book in this series。

Tom Getzinger

Third out of four。 Was is wrong with this world? Can it possibly get any more messed up? Good thing Atlee is around。

Elizabeth C

Moved along quicker than the 2nd book。 Definitely had a few unexpected twists。

DaylightGreat but unfinished? Poor ending for a book leaving the reader as frustrated as the main protagonists not up to his usual standard am almost disappointed at having bothered to read it all 408 pages

Laura

A little disappointed about the ending but a lot happened in the book。 All three books were in different locations from west to east, ending up in NJ。 Maybe there will be a book #4 to answer more questions。。。

The latest installment in the Atlee Pine series is very timely and very interesting。 The main thing in this story is about Greed, Political Power and the lengths that people will go through to maintain their power。 Pine while searching for clues about the disappearance of her twin sister 30 years ago stumbles upon a Blackmail/ Extortion scheme that reaches into the Upper Regions of The Government。 People are afraid to uphold the Law, because they fear for their jobs and their lives。

duffin

just ludicrous。 i know its fiction but come on。

Sometimes you just need to read a book where someone--against all odds--does the right thing , for the right reasons and lives to try again。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I really like this series。 Atlee Pine and Carol Blum are such great characters。 I enjoyed the addition of the Puller Brothers in this book。 I did not see the direction Atlee's search for Mercy was going when the book started。 Come to find out it looks like she's a fighter just like her sister。 I'm looking forward to reading the final book in the series when it comes out this fall。 I really like this series。 Atlee Pine and Carol Blum are such great characters。 I enjoyed the addition of the Puller Brothers in this book。 I did not see the direction Atlee's search for Mercy was going when the book started。 Come to find out it looks like she's a fighter just like her sister。 I'm looking forward to reading the final book in the series when it comes out this fall。 。。。more
