[WARNING: This implies spoilers for Cinder, the first book in Lunar Chronicles] Scarlet is the second book in the Lunar Chronicles, Marissa Meyer’s beautiful series taking place in a sci-fi fantasy world based off of classic fairytales。 Cinder travels the world on the run as a fugitive with fellow prison inmate Thorne and his massive spaceship while Cinder gets adjusted to her new Lunar powers。 Meanwhile, Scarlet goes on a search for her missing grandmother with a suspiciously intriguing strange [WARNING: This implies spoilers for Cinder, the first book in Lunar Chronicles] Scarlet is the second book in the Lunar Chronicles, Marissa Meyer’s beautiful series taking place in a sci-fi fantasy world based off of classic fairytales。 Cinder travels the world on the run as a fugitive with fellow prison inmate Thorne and his massive spaceship while Cinder gets adjusted to her new Lunar powers。 Meanwhile, Scarlet goes on a search for her missing grandmother with a suspiciously intriguing stranger who calls himself Wolf。 This does take a dark twist at the end, and I don’t recommend it for younger readers, however this level of violence is fairly typical throughout the series。 I think anyone who handled the plot twist from Cinder will be okay in this book。 I enjoyed this story because I love the sci-fi “vibe” this book gives me, and because I wanted to know more from the first book, which just like this one, ends with a cliffhanger。 I also actually started this story from the villain’s backstory a few years ago, so I already know all the motives behind everything, kind of like a “watching the Star Wars movies 1-3 first” thing。 Literally for no other reasons do I like this series。 To be fair, I find the first reason very big, and the universe/concepts have HOOKED ME。I rate this book 4/5 stars。 I love the universe this series is set in and the entire concept behind the story, however it loses a star because I could already predict a lot of things。-N。K。 。。。more

The book was amazing but I wish it would have focused less on Scarlet and Wolf's relationship and more on Scarlet herself。 The Cinder parts are amazing and sometimes kinda just wanted to finish Scarlet's parts just to get to Cinder。 But overall a great book especially when the two stories start to merge( i think that's a word) together。 And I can't wait to read the next one The book was amazing but I wish it would have focused less on Scarlet and Wolf's relationship and more on Scarlet herself。 The Cinder parts are amazing and sometimes kinda just wanted to finish Scarlet's parts just to get to Cinder。 But overall a great book especially when the two stories start to merge( i think that's a word) together。 And I can't wait to read the next one 。。。more

If I could have, I would have given this book 3 and a half stars。 It was an easy, pleasant and entertaining read。 Perfect for winding down at the end of the day。 I haven’t gotten around to reviewing the first book of this series, but just like “Cinder”, it’s well written。 The pacing is great, the world feels lively and looks absolutely gorgeous in my mind’s eye。 I like the way Cinder’s story continued and I might add that Cinder definitely feels like a more interesting character than Scarlet。 I If I could have, I would have given this book 3 and a half stars。 It was an easy, pleasant and entertaining read。 Perfect for winding down at the end of the day。 I haven’t gotten around to reviewing the first book of this series, but just like “Cinder”, it’s well written。 The pacing is great, the world feels lively and looks absolutely gorgeous in my mind’s eye。 I like the way Cinder’s story continued and I might add that Cinder definitely feels like a more interesting character than Scarlet。 I do have high hopes for Cinder’s character arc。 It looks promising。I love how all the plot points that were foreshadowed in the first book unfurl。 The well-structured nature of the plot is a display of excellent workmanship and I love the way Meyer reconstructed the elements of the original fairytale。 It’s clever。 All of this, the wording and the attention to detail, had me thinking, yes, this is sound writing。 Objectively, it is a good book。 Subjectively, though, well。 What can I say? At times I cringed so hard, I thought I might have a seizure。 And if I read the word “alpha” one more time I think I’ll need a bucket。 Sure, the animalistic aspect is cool。 The whole wolf thing kind of works and it makes sense。 However, for the most part, I did not enjoy the execution of the concept particularly much and it got worse toward the end。 Also, Scarlet was quite obnoxious sometimes。 Naturally, every now and then, compromises have to be made with the behaviour of the characters in order to fit the plot, but Scarlet ended up feeling a bit dense and overall unlikeable as a result。 The characters in general, though not two-dimensional by any means, I found to be a bit bland。 There wasn’t a single character I got attached to and I wouldn’t have given a rat’s ass if or when any of them died。 Speaking of characters, the love story (yes, Meyer worked a love story into a fairytale that had nothing to do with romance) felt kind of forced。 Even though idea has potential and I prefer that kind of love interest over the tacky prince romance of the first book any day, it did seem a little unnecessary and, once again, the execution: ueheeurrgh。 If not to say, excruciatingly urksome。 In this book and and the previous one, I repeatedly found myself irritated by the antiquated understanding of romance。The fairytalesque, backwards understanding of the world as a whole bleeds into every aspect of the story and it is jarring when pitted against the futuristic setting of the novel。 Now, some might enjoy this contrast。 I did not。 Some might argue that this vibe and the sci-fi setting marry together perfectly。 I, for one, feel that it detracts from the credibility of the worldbuilding。 Conclusion: It’s still a good book。 Great for its target audience。 Is it my cup of tea? No。Would I recommend it? If you’re in the right age demographic and into fairytales, sure。 Knock yourself out。 It most certainly lives up to the first book。 If not, you’re not missing out on much if you give this one a pass。 。。。more

。。。more

I don't know what it was about this one, but I didn't connect to Scarlet's story at all, which was probably 75% of the book。 And an inordinate amount of that was spent on the animalistic romance, which doesn't fit with the tone and mission of the first book at all。 I kept going waiting for the Cinder chapters, but this one was a real struggle to finish。 I don't know what it was about this one, but I didn't connect to Scarlet's story at all, which was probably 75% of the book。 And an inordinate amount of that was spent on the animalistic romance, which doesn't fit with the tone and mission of the first book at all。 I kept going waiting for the Cinder chapters, but this one was a real struggle to finish。 。。。more

3。5⭐I'm gonna be honest I didn't really like Scarlet up until like last chapter😅I liked Cinder way more, it just felt much better paced and then this book was kinda slow and boring at some parts for me。With that being said I can't wait to read the next one, and to see Kai and Cinder together again I just love them and their awkward moments:) 3。5⭐I'm gonna be honest I didn't really like Scarlet up until like last chapter😅I liked Cinder way more, it just felt much better paced and then this book was kinda slow and boring at some parts for me。With that being said I can't wait to read the next one, and to see Kai and Cinder together again I just love them and their awkward moments:) 。。。more

This has been a great series to listen to。 I love the way the author has taken fairy tales and put them into the future。 I like all of the characters, and the narrator is amazing with the various voices and accents。 Can't wait to start the next book。 This has been a great series to listen to。 I love the way the author has taken fairy tales and put them into the future。 I like all of the characters, and the narrator is amazing with the various voices and accents。 Can't wait to start the next book。 。。。more

I didn't like this one as much as Cinder, and I was a bit annoyed with Scarlet as a character for most of the first half of the book。 Almost thought it would be a 3star read, but the growth in world building and continuation of Cinder's main plotline kept me interested。 The Scarlet/Wolf romance I felt was too insta-love。 I love the introduction of Thorne as a character。 I'm really enjoying this "save the world" adventure team being put together。 I didn't like this one as much as Cinder, and I was a bit annoyed with Scarlet as a character for most of the first half of the book。 Almost thought it would be a 3star read, but the growth in world building and continuation of Cinder's main plotline kept me interested。 The Scarlet/Wolf romance I felt was too insta-love。 I love the introduction of Thorne as a character。 I'm really enjoying this "save the world" adventure team being put together。 。。。more

I loved the way she included Cinder from her previous book, and added Scarlet (Little Red Riding Hood) to this new book in the series。 That is really cool。 These are NOT your typical fairy tale princess characters。 They are strong young women who can take care of themselves。 I love this series!

Scarlet is a butt-kicking heroine and I love her, but to me, it seems like her story has been overshadowed a bit by Meyer's need to describe how evil Levana is in increasing detail。 I think Meyer tried a little too hard to be edgy and graphic, and it completely ruined any potential for shock factor。Dropping my rating from four stars to three because the romantic angle felt a bit too like insta-love for my taste。 Otherwise, an engaging, fast-paced story that I really enjoyed。 Scarlet is a butt-kicking heroine and I love her, but to me, it seems like her story has been overshadowed a bit by Meyer's need to describe how evil Levana is in increasing detail。 I think Meyer tried a little too hard to be edgy and graphic, and it completely ruined any potential for shock factor。Dropping my rating from four stars to three because the romantic angle felt a bit too like insta-love for my taste。 Otherwise, an engaging, fast-paced story that I really enjoyed。 。。。more

Finally finished this book。It was a bit slow, the romance felt a bit cringe for me considering how fast they fell in love and all that Alpha mate stuff reminded me of those Wattpad Fics haha 😄 but other than that it was amazing 💖Hopefully in the next books I'll see more of Kai and Cinder。 They're the cutest。 Finally finished this book。It was a bit slow, the romance felt a bit cringe for me considering how fast they fell in love and all that Alpha mate stuff reminded me of those Wattpad Fics haha 😄 but other than that it was amazing 💖Hopefully in the next books I'll see more of Kai and Cinder。 They're the cutest。 。。。more
