Summary

“For someone damned to be forgettable, Addie LaRue is a most delightfully unforgettable character, and her story is the most joyous evocation of unlikely immortality。”
―Neil Gaiman

A new signed limited edition, featuring new artwork selected by V。E。 Schwab, exclusive jacket and special 'inked' coloured text。 The definitive edition of this genre-defying tour de force。

When Addie La Rue makes a pact with the devil, she trades her soul for immortality。 But there's always a price – the devil takes away her place in the world, cursing her to be forgotten by everyone。

Addie flees her tiny home town in 18th-Century France, beginning a journey that takes her across the world, learning to live a life where no one remembers her and everything she owns is lost and broken。 Existing only as a muse for artists throughout history, she learns to fall in love anew every single day。

Her only companion on this journey is her dark devil with hypnotic green eyes, who visits her each year on the anniversary of their deal。 Alone in the world, Addie has no choice but to confront him, to understand him, maybe to beat him。

Until one day, in a second hand bookshop in Manhattan, Addie meets someone who remembers her。 Suddenly thrust back into a real, normal life, Addie realises she can’t escape her fate forever。

I used to imagine that I can live an invisible life, no one can see me or hear me but after reading this book I realized how sad it is if no one remembers you especially your family and friends。

It is hard to formulate proper thoughts and words for this book。 But I will try。This book is not Fantasy。 That is a huge misjudgment。 This is a story about love。 Simple as that。 I do not consider it the best romance ever, I do not consider it properly done。 But it is raw, as raw as a story can be。 It strives to wrench out the emotions and feelings of the reader, and it has done it masterfully。 I could see myself in the pages of Henry's depression because I've been there。 I have felt that painful It is hard to formulate proper thoughts and words for this book。 But I will try。This book is not Fantasy。 That is a huge misjudgment。 This is a story about love。 Simple as that。 I do not consider it the best romance ever, I do not consider it properly done。 But it is raw, as raw as a story can be。 It strives to wrench out the emotions and feelings of the reader, and it has done it masterfully。 I could see myself in the pages of Henry's depression because I've been there。 I have felt that painful neglect he experiences。 I could empathize with Addie's determination to never back down, to always keep fighting, no matter how twisty the roads turn out to be。 And for that, I will not shrink back from giving the kudos to Schwab。But。。。this isn't a perfect book。 Most of the instances in the story that repelled me were really personal preferences, so I shall not open more about that。 The writing is beautiful, bordering on lyrical。 But there are times when it feels like the author is trying too much, just too much to make the prose flourish and it grated on me。 The heavy and constant use of metaphors nearly drove me to put the book down。 Also sprinkled with a tad of repetitive phrases, which sometimes either both overwhelms the story, or draws it out of context。Still, there is no denying of what this book achieves。 It has its moments of valleys, and its moments of peak exhilaration。 And yet, it manages to teach you how valuable a memory can be。 How much of a solace it is to be not forgotten。 To know that you don't always have to be alone。I have such complicated thoughts when it comes to judging this book。 Because in the end, a book is not meant to be judged, but to be relished in your time of joy and to offer tranquility on your days of anguish。 Just know that whoever reads this will have an unforgettable time。 。。。more

Two stars for pretty writing — although it felt pretentious and unnecessary at times — and for an intriguing idea。 No stars for plot or character development & likability。 Living out 300+ years with Addie was very dull。 None of the characters, including Addie, were developed enough for me to care about。 Addie is the main character, whom we follow for the entire 400+ page book spanning 3 centuries, and yet, I feel like I don’t know anything about her besides the fact that she has 7 star shaped fr Two stars for pretty writing — although it felt pretentious and unnecessary at times — and for an intriguing idea。 No stars for plot or character development & likability。 Living out 300+ years with Addie was very dull。 None of the characters, including Addie, were developed enough for me to care about。 Addie is the main character, whom we follow for the entire 400+ page book spanning 3 centuries, and yet, I feel like I don’t know anything about her besides the fact that she has 7 star shaped freckles across her face (every single character who meets her mentions this and it gets old fast), and that she is portrayed as a woman wanting more than marriage, but she never actually goes for more given her immortality。 This book could have been so much more。 。。。more

I am VERY picky when it comes to what I read。 If I have to force myself to stay engaged in the text, it will never be finished。 Addie LaRue。。。truly like something I had never read before。 The plot was so different than the typical, repetitive tropes I see far too often。 It provided everything I could want and more: love triangle, individuality, slight period piece, and some dark magic。 The only set back for me was the timeline jumps and perspective changes, which were confusing at times。 Thankfu I am VERY picky when it comes to what I read。 If I have to force myself to stay engaged in the text, it will never be finished。 Addie LaRue。。。truly like something I had never read before。 The plot was so different than the typical, repetitive tropes I see far too often。 It provided everything I could want and more: love triangle, individuality, slight period piece, and some dark magic。 The only set back for me was the timeline jumps and perspective changes, which were confusing at times。 Thankfully the author provides time stamps for clarification, my brain just does not do well with the back and fourth。 Overall, I could not put this book down。 I had to force myself to go to bed。 It is one of those stories that had an impact on me in which I will carry for life。 Be careful for what you wish for, enjoy what you have, and live in each present moment。 。。。more

this was my first v。e。 schwab book, and i devoured it。 the idea of a woman who made a deal with the dark to be able to live her own life, but as a catch, to also be forgotten by everyone, at first felt like a twist on the age of adaline, right down the title character's names, but there was something to this story that felt deeper, darker。 (view spoiler)[the detail this story goes into of addie's suffering for 300 years on her own, her tale of survival in a world that held no room for her that s this was my first v。e。 schwab book, and i devoured it。 the idea of a woman who made a deal with the dark to be able to live her own life, but as a catch, to also be forgotten by everyone, at first felt like a twist on the age of adaline, right down the title character's names, but there was something to this story that felt deeper, darker。 (view spoiler)[the detail this story goes into of addie's suffering for 300 years on her own, her tale of survival in a world that held no room for her that she did not take the time and effort to scrape out herself, her desperation and her anger was a palpable thing。 it didn't really mesh with her almost impasse attitude towards the way of the world towards the main time of the story, especially as you could see spaces of time where she did still care about people, and the world, even if she did not feel like she could have a place in it。 this felt very back and forth, like she couldn't decide on where she fit in the world, to love or to hate it, which i feel like was supposed to make her complex and complicated, but just felt very tone-switched when it happened。 (hide spoiler)] but that didn't many any of it's moments of light any less bright and joyous, especially all of the scenes within the last word, which were my favourites。 at times, the story felt very rushed, and other times, it felt as if specific scenes and times were going to go on forever。 and the ending。。。。。 was satisfying in a way i hadn't really expected。 it wasn't the happy ending i would've guessed (or liked more, but that's another thing, how this book stuck to its realism even with all of its fantasy elements and escapisms) and the way the story flows throughout makes the darkness feel like a character we should care for, when he parades and prides himself around as a thing that does not deem himself worthy of caring。 it felt very。 (view spoiler)[ i loved you as a trick, and ended up tricking myself, and who knows where that will lead us。 like this is literally your abuser for the last 300 years, addie, babe。 i know you were trying to save your boyfriend but like。 oh boy。 this was a set-up, to fight against the last set-up, and you tricked them both? what if this isn't what henry wanted??? what if he wanted to have a say in his own life? and addie's own? esp。 since they had only known each other for a handful of months??? how do you make such a big decision like this for someone you barely are on the cusp of fully knowing? Addie's story is mesmerizing and I enjoyed the glimpses back and forth between present and past。 The novel presents an interesting perspective on romance and lust, as well。 Addie's story is mesmerizing and I enjoyed the glimpses back and forth between present and past。 The novel presents an interesting perspective on romance and lust, as well。 。。。more

Definitely the kind of book that drew me in years ago。 It is nice to return to this type of genre-- an air of magic about the story。 It was a hefty, but delightful read。

A different way to look at livingThis story asks what is life and living。 The richness of the characters and the language is well developed。 But it is the development of the relationships, darkness and light, that kept me reading。

Stevie Harrington

beautifully written, ingeniously crafted, and all in all, very well done

3。5/5 starsSo I liked it, which I am a little shocked by。 I love Luc, he is my husband which probably isn't a good thing, but whatever。 I did have my issues with it, which I will get to in a full review。I will be able to update reviews when I get my computer back, which will be very soon! 3。5/5 starsSo I liked it, which I am a little shocked by。 I love Luc, he is my husband which probably isn't a good thing, but whatever。 I did have my issues with it, which I will get to in a full review。I will be able to update reviews when I get my computer back, which will be very soon! 。。。more

Of course I loved this, the writing style was amazing and the characters so human even if some were far from it。 I just wish Luc had more backstory but still a must read for anyone!

Feel it was a bit over-hyped, overall a solid book。 I wish it had not flashed back and forth between Addie’s past and present- I ended up not being as invested in the past for the majority of the book。

This is an amazing book that took me way to long to read, however it gave me a chance to savor it a bit longer。 Addie LaRue is such a headstrong character that tries to live her life accordingly after events change her life and the way she sees fit to live it, dramatically。 The story definitely makes you aware and appreciative of those that we hold near and dear to us and how our lives wouldn’t be the same without them remembering who we are。

MY HEART IS NOT OKAY。 I listened to it on Audible & the narrator Julia Whelan is incredible。 I already want to reread this physically。

Great story, wish it focused a bit more on her awesome life through the middle of the book and not just the beginning。 May not have been so focused on the antagonist then。 Decent ending leaving room for a little imagination。 Fun concept

。。。more
