Summary

The spellbinding sequel to the New York Times-bestselling We Hunt the Flame, by the masterful Hafsah Faizal。

Darkness surged in his veins。 Power bled from her bones。

The battle is over, but the war is just beginning。 Low on resources and allies alike, Zafira and Nasir are determined to finish their mission; to restore magic to their kingdom。

But the land teems with the return of an ancient evil, and as Nasir fights to command the magic in his blood, Zafira battles a very different darkness。 And yet, in spite of everything, they find themselves falling into a love they can't stand to lose。

Time is running out and if order is to be restored, sacrifices will have to be made 。 。 。

Set in a richly detailed world inspired by ancient Arabia, Hafsah Faizal's We Free the Stars is the epic conclusion to the Sands of Arawiya duology。

This so was soooo good。 Probably better than We Hunt the Flame。 Plot twists made me almost throw the book from one side of the room to the other but it was so worth it。 The ending almost made me cry。。。 no seriously5/5 definitely recommend。

She needs a break and she deserves so much better, poor girl :(( I liked the way that Zafira kinda of became 。。 crazy?? With the whole book。 She basically became a different person because of it and it was really interesting to see what happens to her。 It was nice to also see more of Lana, her character is pretty cool。 At times I felt like the whole feminist stance was too forced, it was a little annoying ‘I don’t need a man to complete me’ 。。 yes…but marry him!!! The writing was pretty good, same as before。 However, the biggest downer for me was the lions death。 It happened a little…not abruptly but it surprised me。 After I read it I had to go over it because I didn’t understand the description, of which there was a lot。 I felt like skim reading it and because of that I was a bit confused。 Did he turn into a tree? Idk。 Also what happened to the book? Altair had a great ending。 Happy for him。 Zafira……I didn’t really like her as a character but the whole book taking control of her thing was really exciting and gruesome and gory。 Nasir is a little irritating too because he’s this brooding guy who’s always talking ab darkness and how he hates feeling and then Zafira comes along and they fall in love etc etc…he’s so down all the time。 Like I know his backstory is kinda sad but he’s always staring at the ground like he’s about to fight it。Anyway, overall, this book was very consistent and a good continuation of the first one and slightly better。 But it did feel like it dragged a bit again which was sad and some scene felt like fillers。 I’ll have to give it the same rating, but I have to mention I didn’t get so bored with this in the middle like I did the first one。 。。。more

Eh, I wanted to like this more; it’s not structured that well。 The first was tighter and more interesting。 A great concept but not quite living up to the promise。

I am speechless。 Utterly speechless。 Nothing could have prepared me for how amazing this sequel was。 This brought me so much joy。

I'm not really sure why but I read it really slow。 Perhaps I was just trying to be careful and not miss anything。 I didn't enjoy how complicated the plot was because it was confusing。 On the other hand I loved the slow-burn romance。 That being said, the ending was a bit underwhelming, I would've appreciated more detail。 I'm not really sure why but I read it really slow。 Perhaps I was just trying to be careful and not miss anything。 I didn't enjoy how complicated the plot was because it was confusing。 On the other hand I loved the slow-burn romance。 That being said, the ending was a bit underwhelming, I would've appreciated more detail。 。。。more

3。5/5 i really wanted to love this book more than i did。 there were some parts i loved and i think overall the world and story was really rich, but it just felt a little bit too long and therefore dragged a lot。 i will say that i loved certain characters like zafira and altair the whole time, but because of how he was brooding and distant throughout the entirety of both books i just couldn't connect with nasir at all。 the relationship between nasir and zafira felt really strained。 he thought abo 3。5/5 i really wanted to love this book more than i did。 there were some parts i loved and i think overall the world and story was really rich, but it just felt a little bit too long and therefore dragged a lot。 i will say that i loved certain characters like zafira and altair the whole time, but because of how he was brooding and distant throughout the entirety of both books i just couldn't connect with nasir at all。 the relationship between nasir and zafira felt really strained。 he thought about how much he loved her and how he would do anything for her but all the intimate moments they had were interrupted。 literally all of them。 it was irritating and i wish i could've seen him open up more because there just wasn't a whole lot going on with his character development。 like i said the world was amazing, but the magic did confuse me a lot。 the story did keep me intrigued though and overall i thought it was pretty good! it just didn't really awe me the way i thought it would。 。。。more

This was ten times better and ten times more infuriating than the first one。 These characters need to get out of their heads and talk to each other。 They are worse at communicating than Kaz from Six of Crows。 For some reason this book reminded me of Darklina and Malina in Shadow and Bone。 This is what it could have been。 It takes the focus of her relationship with the villain and looks more at the relationship of her and the friend character。 This book tried to do a found family trope, but reall This was ten times better and ten times more infuriating than the first one。 These characters need to get out of their heads and talk to each other。 They are worse at communicating than Kaz from Six of Crows。 For some reason this book reminded me of Darklina and Malina in Shadow and Bone。 This is what it could have been。 It takes the focus of her relationship with the villain and looks more at the relationship of her and the friend character。 This book tried to do a found family trope, but really I don’t think it worked。 That is my only major critique。 。。。more

I really loved this series - it felt like a whole new world to me reading about Arawiya and connecting these small dots between what I know of the Middle East landscapes, people, food, and various Middle Eastern cultures to the story。 I really cared for Zafira and her journey throughout this novel the imagery of being in the darkest level of yourself and knowing there is only one person who can see you in that darkness and doesn’t dig you down deeper is beautiful。 I love how easy it is to bound I really loved this series - it felt like a whole new world to me reading about Arawiya and connecting these small dots between what I know of the Middle East landscapes, people, food, and various Middle Eastern cultures to the story。 I really cared for Zafira and her journey throughout this novel the imagery of being in the darkest level of yourself and knowing there is only one person who can see you in that darkness and doesn’t dig you down deeper is beautiful。 I love how easy it is to bound yourself as a reader to this story it makes you wonder if Hafsah Faizal performed some blood magic of her own。 Meanwhile as I got near the end I tried my best to slow down worried I wasn’t savoring the end of the Zumra’s journey。 I personally think there is an extremely explicit chapter or epilogue that is missing from the end of the novel but that’s just my own personal preference of a heroes end。 I would and have highly recommended this duology to others and I cannot wait for what Hafsah writes next。 。。。more

Gorgeous writing, especially about the relationship between Nasir and Zafira。 Also Altair was SO charming。 And a super cool world

I enjoyed the first one。 This one needed 3/4 of its really bad “romance” writing edited and throne out。 It’s Attack of the Clones rough。 Astair and Kalif are amazing g characters。 The leads…。meh。

Nicki White

I just didn’t get it。 The romance came forward and the quest seemed to be pushed back。 It was long and slow。 But I did love the short chapters。

Phoebe

I only started properly enjoying this book about 300 pages in。 The first half was so slow paced and dull。 I enjoyed when the four where together。 The dynamic between Nasir and Zamira changed a bit too quickly from the first book but still love them both。 Altair became my ultimate fav from this book。 Nasir was a bit too soppy at times for me and needed him to be a tease and funny more often。 Overall a decent ending for the duology。

I'll definitely reread in a few more years。 I love Nasir too much。 XD 。。。more

I will absolutely never recover from reading this duology…。。 these 2 books have a special place in my heart for ever and ever。I already loved we hunt the flame but reading this book only made the love for these books bigger :o I had a hard time getting in the story first but that had nothing to do with the book haha, shortly after I became hooked (again) and I just couldn’t stop reading ;) I fell even more in love with Nasir than I already was and I didn’t think that was possible…。 I also love A I will absolutely never recover from reading this duology…。。 these 2 books have a special place in my heart for ever and ever。I already loved we hunt the flame but reading this book only made the love for these books bigger :o I had a hard time getting in the story first but that had nothing to do with the book haha, shortly after I became hooked (again) and I just couldn’t stop reading ;) I fell even more in love with Nasir than I already was and I didn’t think that was possible…。 I also love Altair so so much and Zafira of course。There were a few plot twists that I did not expect and it made me want to throw the book across my room :( I have bawled my eyes out and I didn’t think a book could ever do that to me。 Would I recommend this book (and we hunt the flame) YES YES a hundred times yes, you will not regret it。 。。。more

Hafsah Faizal combines rich world building, and some of the most beautiful writing/language I have ever read with action, romance, and a fast-moving plot。

I enjoyed this way more than the first book。 It took me awhile to get through the first book, but I binged this in two days。 This book was wayyy faster than the first one。 But, it got really frustrating at times。 I was hopeful that Nasir and Zafira would have gotten together earlier in the book。 It would have been amazing to see them in an actual relationship, but instead we got two pages of them officially together。 I just found it frustrating, the constant miscommunication between them。 BUT i I enjoyed this way more than the first book。 It took me awhile to get through the first book, but I binged this in two days。 This book was wayyy faster than the first one。 But, it got really frustrating at times。 I was hopeful that Nasir and Zafira would have gotten together earlier in the book。 It would have been amazing to see them in an actual relationship, but instead we got two pages of them officially together。 I just found it frustrating, the constant miscommunication between them。 BUT i did love this book, it was easy to binge, and all of the characters developed really well。 It made me so happy to see the Zumra grow together。 。。。more

I loved the found family trope in the first book but in those one it was overwhelming how I felt as if I was apart of the Zumra myself - the zumra has my heart。 I loved this world and it was an overall amazing book。 I really hope to see a Altair book in the future with yasmin as a possible enemies to lovers? But overall it was amazing a definite 5/5
